Introducing Automation with the Studio Director

Hello everyone!

It’s with great pleasure that I meet you once again, as I do every week, to talk about the upcoming major update for City Game Studio! But first, let’s take a quick look back at last week.
Promo Recap
I promised you a surprise, and I hope you enjoyed the 50% discount! And because good things come in pairs, I also slipped in some additional content with version 1.20.0. Honestly, the update was very well received. Of course, there were a few hiccups, which led to some important fixes, making the game even more stable!

Thanks to the Steam Daily Deal, we had over 600 players simultaneously enjoying City Game Studio. That’s an incredible number I never thought we’d reach, and probably never will again! I want to thank you all for your support and for being part of this—it was an amazing moment for me!
Next Update
Now, let’s talk about version 1.21. This update will introduce a bit of automation to City Game Studio. A new character will be added—the Studio Director. Their role will be to automate game creation. By assigning studios and specialists to them, they’ll be able to create games, and even handle updates.

However, keep in mind that Studio Directors won’t be perfect. They’ll try to make the best games possible, but they certainly won’t be as good as you! Studio Directors will be able to manage between 1 and 6 studios, allowing them to produce AAA games if they have access to producers.

When a Studio Director creates a game, you’ll still have the option to step in and cancel it, though they won’t be too happy about it.

I’m still thinking about what other bonuses Studio Directors might bring. To give you an idea, producers boost developers’ productivity, and accountants reduce taxes. But I haven’t quite decided what the Studio Directors’ bonus should be. So, if you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments—I’ll be reading as always.

I do have one idea for a bonus, but I’m not entirely sold on it. The Director’s bonus could be their ability to manage specialists. Some directors might only handle one specialist, while others could manage up to 10, allowing them to oversee several producers, marketing managers, or accountants.

That’s all for this week.
I’ll see you again next week as usual.
Thanks for reading, and take care!

Quality of life update

Hello folks,

This week has been incredible. Almost 9,000 of you played the game in less than a week! This has never happened before for City Game Studio! And all of this for a game that’s over 5 years old. Honestly, you all are amazing!

I’ve carefully and happily read your feedback! Some of you have spent way too much time playing, and I’m sorry for you... You might need to turn off your computer and go... No, I’m just kidding!! You can start another game, and just release one more new title. Just that. And then when it releases, you’ll just publish one more because, well, it doesn’t take that long. And before you know it, the sun’s up and the day has begun!

Jokes aside, you’ve been super numerous and enthusiastic, and your feedback has been incredibly helpful. There were crashes, and I thank you for letting me know! Thanks to you, everything is back in order, and all the crashes are covered!

There were also bugs, both small and not-so-small. In any case, this update aims to fix them all while adding some quality of life improvements. For example, I’ve added an option that allows the game to pause as soon as you release a video game. It helps optimize your time better.

Among the other changes are mostly fixes. The right-hand panel, brand new and shiny, had a few bugs. Pagination was always displayed even when it wasn’t needed, and clicking on a button would change the graphs when it should have just refreshed them.

Another important change/fix is the summary when a console is removed from the market. The summary panel had calculation errors, which might have made it seem like taxes were driving you to bankruptcy, but that wasn’t the case. It was more a pricing issue with the console. And by the way, the suggested price is now a bit higher to help you make more money.

There are other changes in this update, and they’re all listed in the changelog, so I encourage you to read it or simply launch City Game Studio and enjoy the update!

Thank you for reading, and once again, thank you for playing in such great numbers this week. You are incredible!

Take care, Xavier aka Binogure

Crash fix

Hey folks!

It's an amazing day! You are more than 400 playing a 7-year-old game!
It is really amazing! Thank you so much!

But, some of you might experience some nasty crash when launching the game.
I spent the whole day figuring out what's happening till I found the root cause!

It was due to the interactive thread loading, which was poorly written (I wonder who wrote it huh?!).
Anyway, I overhauled it, and it works like a charm, this update brings more stability when loading or starting a new game!

I'm really sorry for that crash. I should have fixed it years ago, but better later than never right?!

[Edit]
This patch is a bit bigger since I also fixed 2 other crashes and 2 minor bugs (one for the CZ language, and the other one is about having stuttering when loading a new game).

Thank you for playing this game.
Have a nice day.
Take care.
