CS:GO patch gives chickens "a visual upgrade"

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has gotten a major update this week, one that adds a selection of new features and, more controversially, a new paid stat tracking service. But that's just the actual stuff. The important stuff. I'm here for the fun stuff, which is improved chickens. Yes, the chickens have gotten an upgrade.

The patch notes simply say that "chicken models have received a visual upgrade". There are five colours of chicken - black, white, black with a white head, brown, and white with a brown head - but, distressingly, the community has discovered that they all leave behind the same colour of feather when killed. No word yet from Valve on when this game-breaking issue will be rectified.

Chickens have been the subject of a number of easter eggs from the CS:GO devs over the years, including special costume changes to coincide with various holiday updates. Here's hoping there continue to be some updates that might give the new chickens new reasons to celebrate.

CS:GO gets paid stat tracking

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's Operation Broken Fang has come to an end, but Valve has brought in a new update in an effort to ease the sting a little - though it's also causing a sting of its own. Among this update's new features is a new subscription service called CS:GO 360 Stats, intended for players of the FPS game who "want to continue collecting official Competitive and Wingman stats."

This is essentially a continuation of the stat tracking implemented for Broken Fang, except instead of being an extra bonus in an operation pass, it's a separate service provided for $1 USD per month. Stats from Broken Fang will be carried forward, and this will be your only way to continue collecting Competitive stats in-game.

"CS:GO 360 Stats includes access to Competitive match stats from official Competitive, Premier, and Wingman game modes," Valve explains in the official FAQ, "and the Round Win Chance report introduced in Operation Broken Fang." It only includes stats from those modes - you won't find any stats from casual play here.

CS:GO now has a subscription service offering better player stats

When I used to compete in Counter-Strike 1.6 tournaments, I would do so with a print-out of the map we were playing taped to the wall by my monitor. Today's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players go several steps further in the pursuit of being better at clicking on heads than the other team.

To aid them, Valve have launched a new subscription service called CS:GO 360 Stats. For $1 a month, players get access to match stats from their Competitive, Premier and Wingman game mode matches.

The End of Broken Fang

Today Operation Broken Fang comes to an end, but some of its more popular features will live on. Note that if you have unspent stars, you will have until May 15th to spend them, after which they will expire.
Premier Competitive and Retakes were popular and are sticking around. Premier Competitive is still an option in the Competitive tab and Retakes has a new home among the Wargames.

For those of you that want to continue collecting your official Competitive and Wingman stats (or those of you that didn’t participate in Operation Broken Fang but want to try out the stats feature), you can now subscribe to CS:GO 360 Stats for $0.99 per month. It includes access to the CS:GO 360 Stats page as well as your team’s Round Win Chance report in Competitive and Premier game modes. Additional information can be found in our CS:GO 360 Stats help article.
