Valve's slow burn trolling of Counter-Strike fans continues with reveal of 'CS2' trademark

The Counter-Strike community has, for the last month or so, been convinced that a miracle is on the horizon. Exactly what that miracle will be is not yet clear, but the belief in a new version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive using Valve's current Source 2 engine is strong, and equally so is the belief in a whole new version of the game, Counter-Strike 2. I mean, it would actually be Counter-Strike 5 or 6 depending on how you count them, but let's run with it...

Counter-Strike 2 trademarks filed by Valve

My word, it just keeps happening. For the past several days, activity by Valve in the Steam backend seemingly pointed to the release of an updated version of its flagship FPS game in the form of CSGO Source 2. Now, however, it looks like we could be getting closer to a full sequel and the Counter-Strike 2 release date - fresh trademark filings, connected to both Global Offensive and something tellingly labelled 'CS2' seem to suggest that Counter-Strike 2 is on the way.

Someone dropped over $150K on a CS:GO gun skin and I think it's time for the revolution

In an event that future historians will point to as evidence of our hubris and decadence, a spendthrift player has splashed a six-figure sum on a single AK-47 skin in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Spotted by Dexerto, a CS:GO player over on the Chinese version of Buff—a marketplace for players to trade digital doodads like skins and stickers—spent ¥1,095,000 (that's Chinese yuan) on a "factory new" Wild Lotus skin bedecked in four rare stickers. That's about $160,000/£131,500...

CSGO Source 2 looks almost certain as Valve adds 'CS2' to Steam

A new CSGO, of some description, is almost certainly on its way. Especially during the last few days, Valve has made numerous updates to the Steam backend of its flagship FPS game. Potentially, this could signal a revamped, new-engine version of the multiplayer shooter in the form of CSGO Source 2. Alternatively, the long-speculated Counter-Strike 2 release date could be upon us - with the latest update, which adds an executable marked 'CS2' that possibility may seem more likely. But we need to play it cool. Here's the latest on the new CSGO.
