CS:GO's Broken Fang Premier mode is now unlocked for all players

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive - Operation Broken Fang ends soon, but before then Valve is giving all of the FPS game's a chance to send off the op in style. The developer has announced it's now unlocked Broken Fang's Premier mode for all CS:GO players, which means those who don't have the premium operation pass can get access to some previously exclusive features for the op's remaining time live.

"Today we are opening up Broken Fang Premier to everyone," Valve has posted on the multiplayer game's site, explaining - for those that might need a refresher - that this mode "introduces a pick/ban phase to the start of a competitive match, allow[ing] players to test their mettle across the entire Active Duty map pool". The mode features 5v5 competitive matchmaking, and you'll get to select and ban maps and pick out your starting side before getting stuck in to score 16 round wins.

Now, these options are free for all players to try out for a limited time. Broken Fang wraps up exactly one month as of writing (April 30), so if you don't own the operation pass, you've got until then to try these features out for the first time.

Broken Fang Premier, which introduces a pick/ban phase to the start of a competitive match, allows players to test their mettle across the entire Active Duty map pool. Pick and ban maps, choose your starting side, and work together to win 16 rounds.

Operation Broken Fang ends April 30th, so now’s the perfect time to queue for Broken Fang Premier with friends. And if you’re an Operation Pass holder, you have one month to complete missions, collect stars, and redeem rewards from the Operation Shop.

Finally, Release Notes for today are below:

[ OPERATION BROKEN FANG ]
- For a limited time, Broken Fang Premier is available for everyone.
- Operation Broken Fang Passholders will play in Prime Account Status queue when matchmaking for Broken Fang Premier.

[ MISC ]
- Fixed Steam networking sockets implementation to dynamically load "wlanapi.dll" system library and to work on Windows Server systems which don't have Wireless LAN Service enabled.
- Adjusted Zeus texture to read Zeus X-27. For the record, this counts as a Zeus skin.

CS:GO fan makes Nuke lore-inspired 'Tales of Cedar Creek' weapon skin line

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has a thriving modding scene, with a raft of fan-made maps and weapon skins hitting the FPS game's Steam Workshop every week. A new creation that stands out is a weapon skin line that takes inspiration from one of CS:GO's maps and the lore behind it, telling stories through the skins themselves.

CS:GO fan and creator Cimota has posted a preview reel (below) of their "Tales of Cedar Creek collection" on Reddit, which is a set of weapon skins for a handful of rifles inspired by the multiplayer game's Nuke bomb defusal map. The first, called 'Project Cedar, is an icy grey-blue skin "based around a board meeting; notes found within the map, how the nuclear reactor is made, possible cost reductions," and, er, "too many chickens". You can see notes discovered as part of the story scrawled onto the weapon skin, including one of those pesky chickens in purple.

The story progresses into the next skin - Cedar's Decay - which, suitably, shows the weapon descending into a decayed state, with a rust-like coating creeping up its barrel.
