Phasmophobia's upcoming equipment overhaul looks especially spooky

Thank goodness we're now well past the point of me apologising for still talking about a game from last Halloween and into the part of the year where I'll be unapologetically looking forward to this Halloween. Phasmophobia, the co-op ghost sleuthing simulation that I've yet to stop playing since last year, is getting a sizable update this month as spooky season creeps closer. There are even more new ghosts coming, redesigns for tons of your equipment, and "sprinting adjustments" which I believe must mean I'll be hoofing it out of houses faster than the current crawl.

Phasmophobia devs tease "big things ahead" for the horror game

Looks like there's something - or some things even - important on the horizon for Phasmophobia. Developer Kinetic Games has tweeted a tease on the horror game's Twitter channel that suggests it'll be worth keeping a weather eye on the studio's channels, as it looks there'll be some exciting news to come in the not-too-distant future.

"Big things ahead," Kinetic has tweeted, along with a Phasmophobia hashtag. That's it - just that one little hint - so we're completely in the dark (heh) about what these big things might be right now. We can of course see on the game's public Trello board that there's some other exciting content to come, such as a bunch of reworks for things like progression, objectives, levelling, equipment, and difficulty - the latter of which we reported on following a dev Discord Q&A a few weeks back.

There are also things in the backlog, like a core systems overhaul, "horror 2.0" (new ghost events, death animations, and the like), and other bits. But, as we know from before, the team at Kinetic doesn't always put everything on the Trello board, so there can be some big surprises in store for players.

Phasmophobia devs are planning a "large overhaul" and re-balance of difficulty soon

Now that Phasmophobia studio Kinetic Games has grown into a multi-developer team, it looks like plans for more and improved content are revving up. The devs have held a Q&A on the horror game's Discord server and hinted at a bunch of plans they've got up their sleeves, which include "a large overhaul and re-balance of the three difficulty modes in the near future".

"We want to make sure the game gets harder in fun ways, instead of the ghost just being able to hunt more," the folks at Kinetic explain in the Q&A on the point of whether there'll be more challenging content coming to keep veteran players on their toes going forward. While it's not clear at this stage what that overhaul will mean, it sounds like we can expect things to get trickier at the top end to help keep things fresh for players who have mastered the content so far.

Additionally, the devs have teased some other goodies headed to the game in the future. The team reveal that they've got "lots of plans to add new evidence, main/optional objectives, and new ghost types," which they'll post about on Phasmophobia's public Trello board, and that the release cadence of updates will change a little now the studio's grown.
