Phasmophobia will linger in Early Access longer than planned

Phasmophobia may haunt Early Access longer than planned after the game's wildly popular launch convinced its developer to reconsider the scope of the multiplayer spooker. Speaking to IGN, Kinetic Games' sole member, DKnighter, explained that they originally planned a fairly brief trip through Early Access. A few new maps, an extra ghost type or two, some new equipment to play with, and then push into a proper release. "However, due to the game's popularity, everyone's expectations are increased," Dknighter writes, "so I am going to have to reconsider my plans for the game’s future."  From the sounds of it, Dknighter was floored by the response to Phasmophobia, telling the outlet that they'd only expected the game to recoup its costs at best. However, with PC gaming being wildly unpredictable right now, Phasmophobia quickly found itself being one of the top-selling games on Steam. "I was planning for the server capacity hitting a maximum of 500 players on launch day and it to drop off from there, as well as only aiming to make enough money to keep making more games. Now the game has over 2 million sales, with a player peak of around 90k.” The extra time in Early Access will be used to focus on tightening the game up, with a host of stability and bug fixes due in the game's next update. After that, new content will be bundled together in big updates, with plans to push them to the game's beta client before going live. If you do want a sneak peek at what's in the works, however, Kinetic Games keeps a public development Trello board.

Phasmophobia freezing temps: how does it work?

If you're tasked with gathering Phasmophobia freezing temps as a piece of evidence, then it might be a little tricky to know if you've done it right. It's not always clear how cold is cold enough, and there are only a few Phasmophobia ghost types that can achieve the freezing temperatures you need to investigate.

Freezing temps are only a scratch on the surface of all the evidence you need to determine which ghost is haunting the location, and it does mean being in the room with the ghost (yelp). You can always come armed with smudge sticks and a crucifix to get yourself out of a sticky situation, but the tools you will need are either a thermometer or a camera for this job.

There are only six ghosts that can plummet the temperatures of a room including the Mare, Wraith, Banshee, Demon, Phantom, and Yurei. You should know pretty sharpish if you've achieved the freezing temperatures in Phasmophobia, as your breath will be visible. But, before you freeze (or are hunted) to death, here's how you take those temps.

Phasmophobia broke its Steam concurrent player record on Halloween

Phasmophobia has been on a roll of late. Thanks in part to exposure from streamers and content creators it has held the top spot on Steam's global weekly top sellers list for the past three weeks in a row.

Given its spooky nature, a new update, and people social distancing indoors, everything was set up for the VR game to do particularly well on Halloween, and so it did. Checking SteamDB reveals that 112,717 people played Phasmophobia at its peak on pumpkin day, which is a new high for the game.

The occasion helped no doubt, but it's been holding firm enough since. Last night it peaked at 96,765 players, which is still a fair bit above the days leading up to Halloween. If you're a wuss like me and haven't played it, it's a four-player online co-op psychological horror game that tasks you with pulling together your ghost hunting equipment and giving a haunted house a shakedown - good luck with that. The indie game is currently in Early Access and is being put together by one person - making all the success all the more impressive.
