Phasmophobia devs tease new ghost types ahead of the Halloween update

Thanks to a recent addition to the horror game's public Trello board, we know there's a Phasmophobia Halloween update on the way, with "nightmare difficulty" and some more, as-yet unknown, things in tow. Now, the team at Kinetic Games has started teasing some new content on the way, which will presumably arrive with Phasmophobia's spooky season update.

In a post on the ghost game's Twitter channel (below), Kinetic shares a journal page with a rundown of the various Phasmophobia ghost types known so far, but with two new entries blurred out. On the page next to it, there's what looks to be a brief of at least one of these new spirits, outlining their specific behaviour, strength, weakness, and the evidence types needed to nab them - again, with all the juicy bits blurred out, to get the community guessing.

What's intriguing is the wording of the description page. Unlike all the other ghost types, which are just referred to as single entities, this information starts with a 'The' and seems to refer to them as plural entities ("have been reported..."). Then there are the clues in their ability to "mimic" certain actions and use "attacks to confuse". Some fans are guessing from these clues, along with what they make out from the blurred ghost name, that this could refer to some kind of dual-natured ghost or a pair of ghosts, such as 'The Twins'.

Looks like Phasmophobia's getting a Halloween update with "nightmare difficulty"

The spooky season is fast approaching, and it looks like the devs behind one of the best ghost games around are gearing up to get into the spine-chilling spirit. While there doesn't seem to have been an official announcement as such, it looks like Phasmophobia has got a Halloween update on the way, with some kind of "nightmare difficulty" in tow.

That's according to a new addition to the horror game's public Trello board, in which Kinetic Games posts some details about what's in the Phasmophobia development pipeline at any one time. A new card just added lists a "Halloween update" as in progress, which you can see here. Sadly, there's very little detail about what the update will bring right now, with most of the points labelled as "redacted", so it seems the devs want to keep plenty of cards close to their chest on what the patch will usher in.

However, there is something listed called "nightmare difficulty". While it's far from confirmed by the entry, this is presumably some kind of themed, especially tricky difficulty mode that'll make tackling the game's ghosts and ghouls all the more, well, nightmarish, when Halloween rolls around. Though, we'll have to wait for more news on what this is, exactly.

Games like Phasmophobia: the best ghost games

A year into Early Access and Phasmophobia is still ugly, janky and dull—I love it

Phasmophobia, the best co-op game of 2020, is celebrating its first anniversary. Ghost hunters can wear ugly party hats, and the garage that serves as a base is now filled with balloons and awful techno music. Both the balloons and the party hats appear to be made out of sheet metal, and entering the garage you might find yourself stuck in a crouching position. It's still very wonky, looks like shit, and I'm besotted with it...
