Prehistoric Hunt Dev Blog #6 - Iguanodon and guns

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

Read through this week's development blog to find out what we've worked on during the past week.

IGUANODON

Iguanodon is another addition to the game’s calmer herbivore species. Usually they leave hunters alone but like with others, they will come for you if irritated.

HUNTING CONTRACTS

The game now includes a communication device hunters can use to get hunting contracts. These devices are found at certain locations.

WEAPONS

Two new weapons have been added to the game: Crossbow and tranquilizer gun.

Crossbow is a more silent way to hunt dinosaurs. You’ll use no bullets but bolts to score. It has to be reloaded after every shot but in the right hands this will do what you need it to do.

Tranquilizer gun is used to tranquilize dinosaurs. This can be used when you are doing for example a hunting contract where you need to catch dinosaurs alive instead of just killing them. This too is a silent weapon and you need to reload it after every shot.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing what your thoughts are on the game.

Prehistoric Hunt Dev Blog #5 - New weapons

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

New weapons and hunting contracts have been added to the game. Read through to find out more about these updates.

NEW WEAPONS

Three new weapon types have been added to the game:
  • Heavy Sniper Rifle
  • Anti Personnel Rifle
  • Revolver

Heavy Sniper Rifle is a bolt-action rifle and currently the most damage dealing weapon in the game. It has better scope than the other rifles and uses bigger ammunition. Because of it’s bigger ammunition clip size is smaller: Only 5 rounds fit in a magazine.

Anti Personnel Rifle is a bit lighter than it’s big brother Heavy Sniper Rifle. It too is a bolt-action rifle. It has a bigger magazine than the Heavy Sniper Rifle and is faster to fire. Better to use against smaller dinosaurs.

Revolver is an effective weapon on shorter distances. It’s powerful rounds can deal really good damage when shot at the right targets.

HUNTING CONTRACTS

Players can now engage in different kinds of hunting contracts while playing. Contracts can be obtained from special locations in the island. These contracts create a target for hunters and bring some focus for the gameplay as the hunters are not only wandering around aimlessly.

By completing these contracts players will get cash and can use it to buy better equipment etc. Once a player completes a certain amount of contracts for a dinosaur type they unlock access to more challenging dinosaur contracts. Rare contracts can provide special challenges that are harder to complete. One example of this where the dino in the contract is required to be tranquilized and not killed.

Prehistoric Hunt Dev Blog #4 - Big dinosaurs

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

This week we will introduce yet another dinosaur species added into the game: Brachiosaurus.

BRACHIOSAURUS

Brachiosaurus is by far the largest inhabitant of the game’s dinosaur island (so far…). It stands roughly 10 meters tall and can be spotted far away because of its long neck. Brachiosaurus are calm dinosaurs but can be very dangerous if irritated. You don’t want to end up under its feet as its massive weight will kill you instantly.

DINOSAUR AI

This week we have been working on group behaviour for dinosaurs. This allows the dinosaurs to move and work as a group instead of them always acting individually. This makes dinos like Compsognathus much more intimidating as one can be taken down easily, but a pack of them will provide a bigger challenge.

TERRAIN

The game’s terrain got a facelift and other improvements. The terrain now includes big rocks. Vegetation was improved to give a more lively feeling. Trees have been positioned better. Terrain overall was changed to provide fewer places for players and dinosaurs to get stuck and to have all visible locations visitable.

SPECIAL LOCATIONS

Special locations can now be found and added to your map. They allow you to discover more about the island and they work as landmarks for navigation.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing what your thoughts are on the game.

Prehictoric Hunt Dev Blog #3 - Strength in numbers

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

This week we will introduce yet another dinosaur species added into the game: Compsognathus.

COMPSOGNATHUS

Compsognathus is a small dinosaur that might seem harmless but can prove the opposite. You might encounter only a single Compsognathus but there's a chance there are more lurking near. You might get into trouble if they all come for you.

Compsognathus are quick and it's hard to get a good aim at them. You'll most likely need a fast firing weapon to deal with them.

INVENTORY

The game now features an inventory. Currently you can use the inventory to store your guns, bags and ammo. You can also pick more guns and ammo from the ground into your inventory. We will add more items like health items, range finder and attractants. Expect to hear more of them in coming releases.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing what your thoughts are on the game.

Development Blog #2

Greetings dinosaur hunters!

In this weeks blog, we will take a look at a new dinosaur type added to Prehistoric Hunt. Now the game has flying dinosaurs too. The first flying dinosaur is a Pteranodon. While a Pteranodon usually only weights as much as an average human, it is a predator that watches you from the skies and is ready to come for you.

Hunting Pteranodons will be difficult as they glide through the skies making it hard to estimate your relative position. You have a better change of hitting it while it's charging you or when it's on the ground.

Pteranodons like to nest on higher ground and to watch over their territory on mountains.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to hearing what are your thoughts on the game.
