Forget Starfield - the most important space game leaves Game Pass soon

I'm as excited as the next person for the Starfield release date, but there's a more urgent deadline on the horizon for those of you subscribed to Microsoft's PC Game Pass service. Outer Wilds, one of the best space games of all time (and certainly one of the most important, in my humble opinion), is leaving the subscription service on January 1. If you haven't played it yet, don't worry - that's still more than enough time to experience the wonder for yourself.

Outer Wilds now available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Annapurna Interactive and Mobius Digital have announced that Outer Wilds is now available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

On the consoles, 2019’s critically acclaimed mysterious first-person space simulator game will run in 4k at 60fps. The upgrade is a free download if you already own it on PS4 and Xbox One.

Previously released on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the open-world exploration game will find you probing your surroundings, tracking down mysterious signals, deciphering ancient alien writing, and roasting marshmallows.

Outer Wilds and What Remains of Edith Finch upgrades on PS5 and Xbox Series X will be free

Annapurna Interactive announced yesterday during its games showcase upgraded versions of both Outer Wilds and What Remains of Edith Finch are coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Both games will see a 60fps upgrade on the consoles, while Edith Finch will also benefit from 4K on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

The Outer Wilds upgrade will be made available on September 15, and it's a free download if you already own the game.

Outer Wilds and Mass Effect Legendary Edition hit Game Pass today

If you prefer Earth be but a blue marble alone in the void, two of the latest Game Pass additions might tickle your spacefancy. Microsoft's subscription service today adds BioWare's remastered Mass Effect Legendary Edition trilogy as well as the beautiful clockwork mystery Outer Wilds, which was our favourite game of 2019. The cooperative and chaotic first-person firefighting game Embr hit Game Pass today too but that has, like, gravity? So passé.
