Dev diaries. Interesting Economics

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since the last diary, sorry about that, we just wanted to wait until we had something new and interesting to share with you, which we finally do! Here’s what we’ve worked on in the last month and what’s in the next update, which is not far off.

We’ve seen frequent requests to optimize the game ever since launch and we’ve spent a lot of time doing so. Now it’s faster and more stable than ever before. This will allow us to add more content without fear that at some point the game will become overloaded. Although all this work on optimization has sacrificed time for new content we feel that it was more important as a strong foundation for the future.

There’s a new window that will be added to the company screen, “Finances”, which has been a very requested feature for a long time. It’s a detailed financial summary of the company, where you can study your income and expenses and will help you understand what could be improved upon to reduce production costs and increase the profitability of your company. This window will also let you see information about your competitors, their market share and the inner workings of their company.

We thought that simply increasing the level of technology all the time was too boring so we have substantially redesigned the research system in the game. Now the shareholders themselves will choose what technology the CEO will develop. Each quarter a vote will be held to decide which tech to develop further.
Industry leaders in any tech will receive bonuses while those lagging behind will have to constantly try to catch up with them or carry out mergers in order to achieve success.

We’ve finished working on most of the macroeconomics as well, it will become much more interesting to play with. The macroeconomic policies of the state will directly affect your company. Of course, you will be able to manipulate this, both in future updates, by passing laws and in the coming update, when a new feature will be added to the game: Patronage.

Patronage is a form of charity, but who said that charity had to be selfless? You can build buildings to increase your influence, and with it the macroeconomic policies of the state.

We have prepared several artworks so you can appreciate these beautiful buildings :)

Of course, this is an incomplete list of buildings that will be present in the game.

I’d also like to mention that we heard the prayers for better AI and while we’re not working on it now we can promise you it’s something we’ll do in the future.

Perhaps the most awaited feature is the introduction of the political system into the game. Unfortunately, we don't have time to finish it before the release this coming update, but we have done quite a lot of work on it and we can say that the politics is almost ready for release in the coming months.

As for the next update, we hope that we can release it in the first half of May. We’ve got a few important things to fix before that though however.

Anyway that’s all for now, thanks for sticking with us and we’ll see you soon!

Dev diaries. Technocracy

Hello everyone!

Two weeks went by fast and now it's time to tell you about the new things we’ve worked on for you during this time.

You will soon be able to upgrade technologies. All technologies now have their own level. Every time a company develops or introduces a higher level of technology than the other companies in that state has the penalty for having a lower level of technology increases. To counter this you can spend company funds on developing better technology.

We’re also introducing a new technology “Innovation” which will replace the “Social Program” tech from the past versions. Better innovation will allow you to develop technologies cheaper.

After future updates with the formation of a trust or a merger the companies will share technologies with each other. Whichever company has the highest level technology will give that to the other companies.

The new option of “Research level” will boost the speed of research while costing more, it might even have some other associated costs such as having to improve “Accident Security” because of experiments going wrong or similar stuff.

There is a new “Staff turnover” statistic. The lower the turnover the more workers keep their jobs, it makes the production process more stable and increases the production over time. You can change the turnover with the new options “Wage level” and “Work-plan”. Happy workers, happy customers.

The “Financial Shark'' difficulty has also gotten some changes. Good deals are not as easy to come by as before and the usual ways of doing business that you are accompanied to will not work as well as before.

As always we would like your feedback on how to further improve balancing and difficulty, we really value your feedback a lot.

Of course we’ve also worked on the stability of the game and we were able to get rid of several crashes and fix some bugs that could cause you inconvenience.

The release of the update is already very close, and in the coming days we will work on testing it to save you from possible surprises like a bugs and crashes.

After 2 weeks we will come back to you with a new diary. Bye and see you soon!

Dev Diaries. New year - more work

Hello fellow Plutocrats!

Recently we’ve been thinking about how we could improve our own interaction with you guys. We think dev diaries would be a good start.

So, what have we done lately and what will we do in the future?

Mainly we will work on introducing the political system into the game.
One of the key aspects of Plutocracy is influence, what’s more influential than having a powerful grip on politics? We want to add an entirely new dimension to the game with politics.

In any case, that’s a topic for another day, we will tell you more about the political system later.

We’ve also got some good news for Linux users! The game will support both SteamOS and Ubuntu in the next update. And of course Mac support is also coming, however, that will be later this year.

There’s also a lot of small, but important stuff. We’ve looked at your suggestions and taken it into account. Mostly we’ve worked on the balancing. Transport companies are less overpowered, we’ve made changes to the expenses and income as it was very unrealistic.

You can also give loans now. A character who wants to get a loan may ask you for money and if you accept you will receive a quarterly income based on the amount of debt. If they don’t pay, you can use the new agent, the Collector. Doesn't he look friendly?

Another important thing is the unemployment rate and its relation to the average salary. When hiring workers, you now lower the unemployment and the average salary increases. Unemployment also grows with time as the population grows which makes the average salary lower.

This should also fix the issue of unlimited workers because your expenses will grow too much after a more ridiculous amount of workers.

And of course we continue to fix the seemingly endless amount of bugs, both big and small.

Very soon we’ll release an update with most of what we’ve talked about here, we also plan to release dev diaries every two weeks or so to keep you updated on our work. See you all then!
