Hades' Star News

Our Story So Far

As a young college student, I spent countless hours playing Master of Orion. Now that I'm older, I'm finding I no longer have the continuous time required to play and enjoy it.

Hades' Star is my attempt to capture some of the promise of Master of Orion,
in a way that's compatible with my current time limitations. In Hades' Star, instead of starting a new game every time, you continue building on your previous progress - regardless if you last played 30 minutes ago or months ago. Instead of requiring hours to enjoy a session, most missions last from 5 to 20 minutes. If something happens and you have to go away from the game, your ships will carry out your orders in the meantime. Depth comes naturally over time as you progress your Empire, not by requiring you to navigate extreme complexity up front.

At the core of the game's design are our three core pillars:
  • Progression and Exploration
  • Strategic Depth
  • Social Diplomacy

Every decision we make on how to evolve the game can be traced back to one or more of these pillars.

Hades' Star is not a game for everyone - more so than the average game. If you are looking for an immersive space game that you can play for hours on end, or a single player game, you won't find it here. But if, like me, you enjoy building a massive space Empire over time, a little bit at a time, and participate in exciting missions with other players, you should definitely give it a try.

Hades' Star is a free to play game, supported by in app purchases a small percentage of our players choose to make. All content is available for free to all players over time, and we guarantee it will always stay that way. See this post for why we believe this is the best choice for the game.

Since we launched the game almost 2 years ago, we've been lucky to have a growing, passionate community. We have evolved the game significantly with new gameplay, star types and content, over more than 12 major updates. We hope our Steam launch builds on that momentum and allows us to improve the game for many years to come.

I hope to see you around in the Hades galaxy.
