Devlog #21: The Spacesuit

Dear Martians!

The spacesuit allows you to safely explore different regions of the Red Planet. It protects you against radiation and cold, and provides life support as well as mobility in difficult conditions. One of its main components is the helmet. It can get damaged and if that happens, you need to print a new one and replace it. The spacesuit is also equipped with a backpack and a tablet.

It is powered by a battery, so you’ll need to recharge it from time to time to make sure you are well protected. Even if the battery is fully charged, you may still get injured during the solar storms, which produce high radiation levels. Safety is sexy, so you will look fabulous in your Martian spacesuit!

Devlog #20: Food processing unit

Dear Martians!

Creating a prosperous colony on Mars and surviving there requires lots of energy. You will have to take good care of yourself and make sure you don’t forget to eat nutritious food, which will give you strength to succeed in this mission!

As you might know from previous devlogs, inside your greenhouse and main HQ, you will grow various crops in order to establish a reliable food source on Mars. When your crops are ripe, you will need to harvest them as soon as possible to prevent them from rotting. Your veggies and other agricultural products will be stored in the player’s inventory. They will all be ready for immediate consumption, but if you want to eat something more nutritious, you will have to prepare your food using a food processing unit.

The food processing unit will allow you to transform various types of products into space food, which will give you lots of energy to bravely overcome any challenges and become a successful colonist. To make a meal, you can use one product or combine different products. You don’t have to follow specific recipes. When food processing is over, you can collect your meal from the machine’s tray and it will be automatically placed in your inventory.

Devlog #19: Device Assembly System

Dear Martians!

Some of the usable devices can be put together using the device assembly system. It allows you to combine multiple parts into a fully working machine. You can find the components around the map or 3D print a kit which can later be assembled into a functioning machine.

For example, at later stages of the game, you will be able to construct a JetPack, which is an ultimate endgame device. You will need to unlock most of the Technology Tree to be able to build it but it will be well worth the struggle. :)

Devlog #18: Main Hab (HQ) / Workshop

Dear Martians!

Main Hab (HQ) / Workshop is the most important construction in the Martian colony and a command centre of the base. It is a two storey building that consists of modules. It provides everything that’s needed to survive on Mars for a short time for one person. The Hab protects the player against radiation as well as the harsh environment of the planet and provides space and equipment for growing minimum amounts of food.

Main Hab will be a cosy place for regaining the strength and a shelter with perfect view. Inside you will have a bed, so you can take a nap or go to sleep whenever you need. In the Main Workshop you’ll also have some space for Workbench and ChemLab to fix anything you need. Inside you will also have a 3D printer (necessary for printing spare parts) and a CO2 Scrubber which will help you maintain a breathable atmosphere.

Inside you can also create a small greenhouse and cultivate plants on hydroponic shelves. You will have specialistic devices, such as seed modification machine, plant incubator and food processing unit, but you won’t be able to fit everything in one Hab, so either choose wisely or prepare to expand your base.

Devlog #17: Building Martian Base

Dear Martians!

Building and upgrading the first base plays an important role in colonizing Mars, so today’s post is focused on this topic.

Building constructions begins with “the design mode”.
This stage is unlimited and won’t require using resources. First you have to place the “ghosts” of buildings anywhere you want and see if you’re satisfied with the results. You can freely change the ghost placement or destroy them by using a grinder, without losing resources.

You can place the building sections side by side to connect them or place it independently without any connection. If the modules are joined together, the pressure inside a buildings is compensated. When the constructions are set independently, you have to build two airlocks. Remember that designing, as well as building can be done on a flat terrain.

When you already designed the constructions, you can start to build them with a welder tool. This process requires resources. Constructions can be built from modules and components which are printed by using a 3D printer. If you don’t have enough materials, you won’t be able to produce required components. You can destroy buildings using a grinder tool, but it is connected with a partial loss of materials.

As you progress through the game you will be able to build and upgrade another base - your dreamed martian base! In that case you'll need lots of resources to produce required components. Future devlog will give you the details of the 3D printer, which is an essential device in construction process.
