Devlog #18: Main Hab (HQ) / Workshop

Dear Martians!

Main Hab (HQ) / Workshop is the most important construction in the Martian colony and a command centre of the base. It is a two storey building that consists of modules. It provides everything that’s needed to survive on Mars for a short time for one person. The Hab protects the player against radiation as well as the harsh environment of the planet and provides space and equipment for growing minimum amounts of food.

Main Hab will be a cosy place for regaining the strength and a shelter with perfect view. Inside you will have a bed, so you can take a nap or go to sleep whenever you need. In the Main Workshop you’ll also have some space for Workbench and ChemLab to fix anything you need. Inside you will also have a 3D printer (necessary for printing spare parts) and a CO2 Scrubber which will help you maintain a breathable atmosphere.

Inside you can also create a small greenhouse and cultivate plants on hydroponic shelves. You will have specialistic devices, such as seed modification machine, plant incubator and food processing unit, but you won’t be able to fit everything in one Hab, so either choose wisely or prepare to expand your base.

Devlog #17: Building Martian Base

Dear Martians!

Building and upgrading the first base plays an important role in colonizing Mars, so today’s post is focused on this topic.

Building constructions begins with “the design mode”.
This stage is unlimited and won’t require using resources. First you have to place the “ghosts” of buildings anywhere you want and see if you’re satisfied with the results. You can freely change the ghost placement or destroy them by using a grinder, without losing resources.

You can place the building sections side by side to connect them or place it independently without any connection. If the modules are joined together, the pressure inside a buildings is compensated. When the constructions are set independently, you have to build two airlocks. Remember that designing, as well as building can be done on a flat terrain.

When you already designed the constructions, you can start to build them with a welder tool. This process requires resources. Constructions can be built from modules and components which are printed by using a 3D printer. If you don’t have enough materials, you won’t be able to produce required components. You can destroy buildings using a grinder tool, but it is connected with a partial loss of materials.

As you progress through the game you will be able to build and upgrade another base - your dreamed martian base! In that case you'll need lots of resources to produce required components. Future devlog will give you the details of the 3D printer, which is an essential device in construction process.

Devlog #16: ChemLab

Dear Martians!

ChemLab (Chemistry Laboratory) is another type of workbench (part of martian Hab) used to perform and discover new chemical reactions, such as: electrolysis, sabatier reaction, making rocket fuel and others.

The laboratory is equipped with chemical fume hood and tools: electrolysis station, the reactor, micro-crusher, lab phials, burner, mixer etc. The workplace is also equipped with a screen that displays formulas of each reaction and instructions. Some of the essential ingredients you will find in the inventory or on the table.

At the beginning of the game, you will be able to make only basic reactions. As you progress through your Technology Tree you will be able to perform and unlock more chemical reactions.

While working in the Chemlab you have to remember about safety and to follow the instructions displayed on the screen. Performing the chemical reactions carelessly can be very dangerous and can cause the damage. For example, if the pressure you set is to high the reactor will explode!

Devlog #15: The Workbench

Dear Martians!

The Workbench will allow you to repair broken parts of the Printed Circuit Boards that are used in the electronic equipment available in the game. It is equipped with soldering station with hot air tool and soldering iron. On the workbench you can also find multimeter station and a case with the new components for the PCBs.

As part of the Workbench you will have access to a helping multi-display, which will allow you to zoom and diagnose even the tiniest SMD components.

First step in PCB repair will be desoldering. In order to disassemble the damaged components, you have to melt the solder alloy by using a hot air tool.

Then you can replace a faulty compoment with a new element.

Next you can use the soldering iron to solder the new component back into the board.

Sometimes a PCB will also have broken conductive tracks. They can be fixed by using the soldering station as well. Place the soldering iron on the broken track and put new solder along it’s path.

Once the process is done, you can use the multimeter station to check if the connections are fixed and the PCB is repaired.

We will write more details about using the Workbench and the PCBs in future devlogs, so stay tuned for the updates! Keep following us on social media and feel free to join our discord channel

Devlog #14: The Weather: part 3/3

Dear Martians!

Mars is a cold planet and the average temperature is much lower than on Earth. Due to the thin atmosphere of the Red Planet, the significant temperature drop can be observed.

As we mentioned in previous devlog, fortunately the player has a weather forecast system which warns about the expected temperature drop and incoming natural events. The weather alerts will be received about an hour before the expected temperature drop or incoming weather phenomenon, so you will have enough time to take shelter inside a base or a heavy rover.
When the atmospheric temperature is already very low or when the natural event strikes, the warning will appear on the screen.

Especially the nighttime temperature is dangerously cold so it is important to find shelter immediately!
