Update 0.33.2

Content

Update 0.33.0

Updated unit models
The models of units, horses, elephants and wolves got changed a bit to better match the style of the other models. There are no more sharp edges on the unit models and limbs are connected. In addition to that, all armor and clothing items got updated to match the new unit model and are skinned over the limbs.


Editor improvements
The custom battle editor is probably the place where players spend most of their time in the game. This update contains some improvements for it:
  • The editor shows the available key inputs while placing units or interacting with selected units
  • Updated the effect of selected units/objects/... to make the effect less bright and irritating.
  • Players can now copy/paste (duplicate) selected units/objects/... and place them to another location
  • Rotating selected objects will now also rotate units/objects/... placed on top of them
  • Selected units will now show their attack range and guard range
  • Reduced memory usage. This can help to prevent editor crashes on low end machines.


UI improvements
  • Most of the UI elements have slightly rounded corners now
  • The values of the terrain manipulation panel can now be entered in a text field to allow accurate adjustments


Other improvements
  • Lasers are less visible now
  • Adjusted the horse rider height
  • Added santa clothing to the unit creator


Christmas content
There is no new christmas content available this year and no event. The reason for that is that there is already christmas content in game from the 2017 and 2018 and a lot of time has been spend in improving the game instead of creating temporary content and events.

Bug fixes
I dont want to bore you with the list, but some bugs got fixed. Some AI bugs are still in game, because the AI is currently being developed in a separate version of the game.

Work in progress + plan for next year
There are currently two big things being worked on:
1) All gun models are being reworked with improved/new models, iron sights, improved viewmodels and adjusted sizes
2) A lot of AI bugs are getting fixed and new features are being added

Fixing and improving the AI is a long term process which requires a lot of testing because there are so many possibilities and edge cases in this game that it's hard to make the AI work in all of them. But we will get there eventually next year.

There will be no more major updates in 2019, and the next update is scheduled for early January 2020 with the new gun models and improvements.
In general, there will be longer periods between the updates in 2020 to improve the stability of the game and get it into a more polished state. There will also be less new content, because the focus is on improving and polishing existing stuff.

Other than that I can just thank all the players of this game and all the people who suggest things and report bugs.

Update 0.32.9

Content
  • Added apartment buildings

New HUD
The old hud was pretty messy in some areas. The new hud features a clean and consistent design and improves the interaction with objects.
In addition to that, the screen will darken, when the player gets hurt.

Player movement
The player movement always felt very static and boring at times, especially in 3rd person.
To improve the movement, there are some changes to the player movement in this update:
  • Players should no longer get stuck at corners and cliffs
  • Players can now lean left/right to peek around corners
  • Legs will now rotate towards the movement direction
  • The body will rotate slightly in the movement direction (front/back and sideways while rotating the character)
  • Removed stutters while starting to aim in 3rd person
  • Players move a bit slower sideways and backwards
  • Players will take fall damage
  • Players will fall faster over time instead of falling at a constant speed
  • Jumps will now be consistent based on the movement speed
  • Added jumping/falling impact sounds
  • The player head will no longer move while attacking in 1st person
  • There are more changes planned for the next few updates, including 1st person head movement and sideways/backwards walking animations



Settings improvements
This update resets the input and graphic settings!
  • Added window/fullscreen mode settings
  • Added shadow resolution settings
  • Added shadow distance settings
  • Added SSAO quality settings



AI improvements
The AI is still one of the weak spots of the game and the plan is to include some improvements in each of the following updates. This update includes the following improvements:
  • Improved the decision delay from 1 second to 0.1 seconds
  • This should result in faster response times after a target got killed or other unexpected things happened
  • Some units had problems to attack long distance targets, even though the game allowed to increase the attack distance. As a result of that problem, units with "slow" projectiles like archers, crossbowman, rpg-units, etc. will aim up in the air to hit their targets.
  • They also have a slightly better accuracy than other units now



Other improvements
  • The first spawn of each unit no longer reduces the tickets in conquest
  • Increased the max attack distance of custom units from 50 to 150
  • Terrain height slider now works in 0.1 steps and players can set the value in the text field
  • Players will now always take ammo for their current equipped weapon from ammo crates

  • Fixed some possible crash reasons
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the placement of horse stables with horses
  • Fixed that reverting the terrain would not render it correctly
  • Fixed that player swimming did not work on custom terrain oceans
  • Fixed that units walked through concrete barricades
  • Fixed a bug that prevented prefabs with low foundations to be placed
  • Fixed that after deleting a sign, the settings panel would stay open
  • Fixed a bug that caused units to randomly stop working
  • Fixed a bug that allowed players to start the hostage mode without placing an evac area
  • Fixed a bug that prevented thrower units from spawners to throw their weapons
  • Fixed a bug that allowed prefab parts to be placed outside of the prefab bounds
  • Fixed that helicopters did not count as units
  • Fixed a visual bug on one of the alien biome trees
  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from saving custom units after canceling it once
  • Fixed a bug that allowed thrower units in random battles with ranged units deactivated
  • Fixed missing lightsaber unit variants
  • Fixed a bug that allowed the player to rotate the character while the game is paused
  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from seeing the character preview while choosing campaign equipment
  • Fixed a bug that caused passive units to have wrong animations and spam errors
  • Fixed a bug that prevented custom feral zombie equipment from being equipped
  • Fixed a bug that allowed units to walk through lava without taking damage
