Smalland: Survive the Wilds News

Fire Away! Bombs, Handcannons and Anti-Air Turrets!

Lock and load, Smallfolk, steady your hand and flex your trigger finger because you're packing heat now!
Content Update3: The Amber Valleys, comes 16/10
Introducing the Handcannon. It's a cannon that fits in your hand. Self-explanatory, right? The Handcannon shoots iron ammo, crafted using firesand, a new resource within the Amber Valleys.

Don't think it's going to mean an easy win in every fight though. While the Handcannon is powerful, it's also closer to an old fashioned musket in function, and takes time to load and prime for each shot. You'll need to be smart in how you use it to get the best effect.

Another use for firesand is that you can also bundle it up into a nice little grenade - extra lethal against ladybugs!

And you're going to need every advantage to take down the new Aetherin turrets. The valley is dotted with these defensive outposts, which will blast away at anything which flies within range - including birds and Smallfolk with wings.

If you've only just earned your bird, don't worry too much if it gets shot down. One hit isn't lethal, but will cause health loss. Repeatedly trying to fly through Aetherin airspace will risk losing your feathered friend, so if you want to reclaim these lands, you'll need to approach each turret on foot, and defeat the squad of Aetherin that emerges. Doing so will disable that turret permanently.

To begin crafting with firesand, you'll need to first meet Granger, a dusty old Smallfolk who now lives as a reclusive beetle rancher in the Amber Valleys.

Bringing a bit of STING to Smalland!

Life in the Amber Valleys can have a sting in the tail. Literally.
Content Update 3: The Amber Valleys comes 16/10
The Scorpion is the ultimate enforcer, tanky, agile and most importantly - brutal! At your size, you don't even need to worry about being poisoned when you have a stinger that size through your chest!

A tamed Scorpion is the perfect mount for the Amber Valleys. Its speed and agility over the rocky, sandy terrain will help you cover the ground distance in order to shut down those Aetherin turrets, and will also prove helpful in facing the other deadly fauna inhabiting the valleys.

Those rapid snip-snap pincer attacks allow the Scorpion to get the upper claw in combat, and when your foe is where you want them, you can expend a hefty amount of stamina to go for a powerful sting with that powerful tail!

Wait, was that a...Tarantula? Yep. The Overland's spider population just got larger and deadlier, with the addition of this monstrous hairy arachnid. Lurking among the rocks and cliffs, these beasts will test even the hardiest Smallfolk warrior, so watch your step when exploring!

Of course, there may still be a few surprises in these sun-baked lands. Find out what else is coiled and waiting in store for you on October 16th, when the Amber Valleys update releases!

Prepare to embark into...the Amber Valleys

North of the Forbidden Monuments, where not even the Eagle is foolish enough to patrol, is home to a much more malicious menagerie of chitinous creatures...Smallfolk will need to expand their firepower and gain new wisdom if they wish to survive...
Begin the next stage of the Smallfolk story on 16/10/23
The scorched sands of the Amber Valleys are a marked contrast to the lush greenery you're used to. In corroded caves, across rugged roads, await new threats, fights and frights! So why not take solace at the Oasis, maybe even set up a small outpost and savour your time in the sun, you're a long way away from the Burrows now!

But you know who isn't far from home? The Aetherin. Those you encountered among the Forbidden Monuments were mere scouts, the Amber Valleys are much closer to their home...

One key thing to learn is that the Aetherin of the Valleys defend their airspace with ruthless efficiency. Using explosive firesand they have constructed turrets to shoot down anyone who tries to encroach on their territory by air.

Don't worry - these turrets may knock your beloved bird out of the sky, but they won't kill them. At least, not immediately. You'll want to set out on foot to lure the Aetherin warriors out of the turrets. Defeat them, and the turret will be permanently deactivated, creating a pocket of safe airspace for your high-flying adventures.

Though, powerful as they are, the Aetherin aren't the dominant threat in this barren land. They worship a new and deadly creature, unique to the Amber Valleys.

We have more to come tomorrow, with details on the local wildlife, including creatures unlike anything the Smallfolk have battled before!

Smalland: Survive the Wilds 1.0 Release Date Announcement

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

A new beginning beckons for the Smallfolk! We’re proud to announce that Smalland: Survive the Wilds will leave Early Access and hit v1.0 on 7th December 2023.

Does this mean we’ve released all the content updates?

Not at all. Our third major content update arrives very soon – keep watching for details of that in the next few weeks. As with previous updates, this will add a completely new area to the map, new creatures to battle and tame, more story and NPCs, extra armour, weapons, tools and resources, plus lots of QoL improvements and core system upgrades.

Another content update of comparable size will coincide with the 1.0 launch. This will bring the initial Smalland: Survive the Wilds story to a close, and form the complete base game that new players will experience as a single seamless experience from 1.0 onwards.

Is there anything to come after 1.0?

Yes! We’re also committed to a calendar of updates post-launch, continuing to expand the game with even more new content and improvements to systems and functionality. Details of this post-release roadmap will follow the 1.0 launch.

And what about…?

Consoles? Glad you asked. Alongside Smalland: Survive the Wild’s PC 1.0 release, we’re excited to reveal that the game will also launch digitally on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on the same day – 7th December. Both PlayStation and Xbox versions will have the same content as PC at launch. A physical retail release of the console version will follow on 8th December. Cross platform is something we are looking into!

We’re very aware that often the arrival of 1.0 signals the end for an Early Access game, but we really want you – our dedicated earliest players – that for Smalland: Survive the Wilds it really is just the beginning. There are many more stories to tell with the Smallfolk and we’re thrilled you’ve been with us on this journey from the start.
