International Women’s Day 🌷

8th March is not the first day to be recognized as the International Women’s Day, but certainly the most enduring - and for that, we have the turbulence of the early 20th century to thank.

The day was first intended to be a celebration of the working women, and thus didn’t find much spread beyond the countries of the Comintern, and later the Warsaw Pact. After the October Revolution in Russia, womens’ and men’s rights were made completely equal - whether at the factory or in the army, there was nothing a man could do that a woman was banned from doing. This policy was steadily reversed in the following decades (the prime example being female military service, all but phased out by the late 1940s), and the International Women’s Day came to be associated with the celebration of women and femininity in general - and after the collapse of the Warsaw Pact, the “international” holiday became even less so than before.

At the same time, nowhere was the women’s role in WWII more notable than on the Eastern Front. The legendary Night Witches, officially the 588th Night Bomber Regiment, were an all-female bomber squadron, one of three such units of the Soviet Air Forces. Flying outdated planes on risky midnight raids, they became well-known for their effectiveness and skill, compensating for their lackluster equipment with ingenious tactics.

In Strategic Minds: Spectre of Communism, we wanted the voiceover of the Soviet tactical bombers to reference this page of history. Also, in the game you can employ two of the most renowned female heroes of the Soviet Union - Marina Raskova, the creator of the aforementioned Night Witches regiment, and Lydia Litvyak, the legendary fighter pilot whose star had risen during the Battle of Stalingrad.

Alexander Graham Bell Day ☎

On March 7, 1876, 29-year-old Alexander Graham Bell received an exclusive patent for the telephone - a device that allows for sound to be carried across great distances. Since it is a well-known fact that most scientific developments are first adopted by the military, you would think the telephone was among them.
And you’d be wrong.

The telephone made quite a stir when it was patented and became commercially available, but the early models were more of a novelty - the sheer gimmick of hearing someone across the distance made it popular, but the distance wasn’t great, and the sound quality downright abysmal. A lot of time would pass before the phone would become practical, and until then, the military continued to rely on signals and codes.

Even Alexander Bell thought of the telephone as only one of his many inventions, and not even his greatest. However, one of his inventions was adopted by the military almost immediately, and remains in wide use even today - the mine detector.

Weekly Features #1: Overstrength

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Hello guys! The Strategic Mind series has a quite sophisticated set of core mechanics, some of which are a novelty for the genre, for example, the supply system. The upside is that the game has lots to explore even for seasoned wargame veterans and offers everyone a new experience. The downside is that oftentimes the players lack the time to master all the core mechanics, especially after a hard working week, when you want to spend more time with your family during the weekend.

We have decided to start a new series of short tutorial videos called Weekly feature. In this series, we will have a closer look at one core mechanic at a time. We hope that it will help the new players to grasp the game faster, and the veteran players to learn a couple of new tricks. For example, we will explain in more detail the Surrender mechanic or the damage calculation rules. It should be especially helpful to the players who are new to the wargame genre.
Weekly Feature #1: Overstrength
In the first episode, we will have a look at the Overstrength mechanic that allows you to increase the strength of your troops higher than 10 and gives you a huge advantage in the campaign. Many players struggle with later operations because they do not use the full potential of this option.

If the Overstrength feature's tutorial was helpful for you - let us know in the comments on YouTube. You could also subscribe to our YouTube channel to make sure you do not miss the next episodes. Also, if you want to ask us some additional questions about the mechanics - you are most welcome!

Have a good weekend!

British Jet Fighter

In 1944, the German jet fighters, albeit deployed in limited numbers, made piston-driven aircraft obsolete. Then, jet-propulsion V-1 cruise missiles rained upon London in thousands, too fast for conventional fighter planes to intercept. By then, the British turbojet fighter project had been years in development, but now it had to go into overdrive.
Gloster Meteor
Gloster Meteor was the first Allied jet fighter, and by far the quickest plane of its time. It was the only Allied jet fighter to be deployed during WWII, and only towards the very end. But in our alternate history timeline, it will be seeing a lot more action.
In the game
All jet fighters in Strategic Mind - the German Me-262, the Soviet MiG-9 and the British Gloster Meteor are far superior to all previous non-jet models. So, they provide a very solid boost to your air force capabilities.
