Current State of the Tavern of Magic

Hi there! I guess it’s time to make it clear in long post — we are still here, Tavern is not dead, we are doing stuff

First of all, we will miss Spring update this time — we really need to focus on main things. Let me explain how we worked on the Tavern.

It all started around 2 years ago, when we saw opportunity to jump on VR train and we’ve made a decision that Tavern being on public is a priority. We rushed to get attention through basic gameplay and visuals. I don’t know was it right or wrong, the point is — logical things started happening, after 2 years we were close to the limit of our budget (let me inform you that Tavern is self-funded project). And now we are taking logical measures.

We are focused on rebuilding the main Tavern system from the ground up, but with no hurry this time. Gameplay won’t change dramatically, but you will be able to do such cool things as choosing roles for your minions and much more.

The Tavern right now is a project that is ready to be packed and sent on a showcase or to potential publishers, which is a cool thing. We understand that there is not much of a content for full release, but we are in the Early Access right now and the Tavern shows that it got: interesting and intense gameplay, pleasant graphics and great VFX. We’ve studied what our main audience think and we like feedback we got.

Whats coming next

While we are searching for a publisher or investments we are planning on rebuilding whole system — it takes time, but results will speed game up (big part of this is optimizing the code), it will allow us to finally give players progress: leveling up, getting new Cards, Classes, items and more, and also make our characters move and feel more realistic.

The only problem is that Tavern in current state doesn't give us enough funds, that’s why we have to work on outsource to keep things afloat. You have to fight for what you love, right? :)

Also, we have to work on enterprise-oriented stuff to keep organization itself going, to pay taxes and stuff like licenses, bills and domain. It may slow down the process of development, but gives us new knowledge and experience with Unreal Engine.

After we’ll complete base of the project and make PvP even more interesting we will deliver 2 vs 2 fights, tournaments (so players could arrange them by themselves), more Cards, more ways to play. PvE will change a bit. We can’t say if Dungeon Raid will be reworked, but we are making new AI system that may change the way you are pushing thru enemies. By the way — there will be new types of enemies both in PvP and PvE. When it’s done we’ll start working on single play mode to immerse you in the story behind the Tavern. We have big story to tell!

How you may help

Well, of course you can buy our game on Steam or ask for a license directly via e-mail, create media content (videos usually turns out to be interesting for viewers) and spread a word about the Tavern.
We also preparing merchandise, including accessories, apparel and 3D printed statuettes with your own design.

For now you can contact me directly via e-mail to ask about prices and shipping.

If you know VR-oriented publishers and business developers — we could really use their help.

If you have any ideas — please join our community and share with us! The Tavern is a community-driven project and we really want to hear out your thoughts!
