Nintendo Direct June 2023 - here’s all the announcements you might’ve missed

Yesterday’s June Nintendo Direct (June 21) was quite the feast. We received five different Mario-related announcements, a Pikmin 4 demo, Star Ocean 1 and 2 remakes, and so much more. All in all, there’s a lot you could’ve missed, so here’s everything that was shown off during the Nintendo Direct.

The Nintendo Direct kicked off with the announcement of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. This DLC is made up of the Teal Mask, arriving this fall, and the Indigo Mask, arriving in winter. In addition, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope also received a new DLC, The Last Spark, which released immediately after the Nintendo Direct. A demo for the game is also available now.

If Pokemon perked you up, you’ll also be glad to know that Detective Pikachu Returns, a sequel to the 2018 Nintendo DS title, will be coming to Switch on October 6. Our Electric-type mouse detective also remains mouthy as ever, you’ll be glad to know.

Gloomhaven is coming to consoles September 18
CONSOLE WHEN?!
For 4 years now, players on PC have been enjoying the Gloomhaven experience.

Forming your band of mercenaries and coming up with smart strategies only to friendly-fire yourselves to death. It’s meeting the infamous Oozes... and it’s sacrificing innocents for not-so-good and very hypothetical loot.
It’s well-oiled turn-based tactical gameplay and exploring over 250 grim dungeons.
It’s also dying a lot, but learning from your mistakes and getting better each time. At least, we hope so for your sake.

But what if you’re a console gamer? Well…

We’re happy to announce that Gloomhaven is coming to Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft consoles (PS4/PS5 Xbox One/Series X & S/Nintendo Switch)
September 18, 2023
It’s being developed by our partners at Saber Interactive, and we’re extremely proud to be able to bring this to the players in cooperation with Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft and Valve who helped us plug everything together.

Some news about the console port and PC version!
Hi everyone!
Let me introduce myself to you all!

I'm Mike, Tech Lead at Saber, and one of the many people currently working on Gloomhaven.

I have been playing both the board game & digital version of Gloomhaven for quite a while as many others here do and it's an honor and a pleasure to be able to work on it now!

I have been working in the industry for 11 years but this game really is something else!

We are currently working on many elements around the game.
Here is a snippet of what's going on :
 • We are polishing the console versions, which will release later this year, as you already know
 • Our team is focusing on optimization for PC as well - improvements such as less loading times, less memory usage, better performance especially on low-end specs
 • Working on a reworked UI/UX for the gamepad too! Gloomhaven is quite a complex game so the gamepad adaptation can be a real challenge.
 • A lot of bug fixing, the full patch notes will of course be shared with you when we release the update, but our goal is to make the game even smoother!

We're aware we haven't communicated much as Gloomhaven requires a lot of attention and work.
It always take some time to work on someone's else code, even more when we are expanding it for cross-platform play.

We hope to deliver everything at the same time as the console release but some things might take a bit longer.

At any rate, everything should be live before the end of 2023!
We're very excited to share all of this with you.

Thank you for your patience, your support and your love for the game!

Mike
