DISCLAIMER
In October, we needed to finish a lot of things that were planned regarding Stormbound’s monetization. That’s why we have tweaked vanishing packs and in the last 2 weeks, you could see some great time-limited offers around. Right now we can fully concentrate on delivering features and content you’ve been waiting for a long time.

Therefore, you can expect the following to come in the next few months:

  • New game mode: A draft mode that you’ve never seen before. We are using all of Stormbound’s existing features to make this mode the best around.
  • Reworked campaign mode: It will bring much more enjoyment to your daily gaming sessions.
  • Cards level limits in ranked mode: We are finally ready to get Stormbound to the always desired state of progression. Skill will now be more important.
  • New login system: We are almost there. It’s currently being internally tested.
BALANCE CHANGES
This release, just like any other, will bring some balance changes.

Bounded Daemons’ strength is now 2/3/3/4/5 (up from 1/2/2/3/4).
Lost Psyches’ strength is now 3/4/5/6/7 (up from 2/3/4/5/6).
Fragmented Essences’ strength is now 2/3/4/5/6 (down from 3/4/5/6/7).
Tode the Elevated’s ability now grants 2/3/4/5/6 strength (down from 3/4/5/6/7).
Edrik the Fierce’s ability now spawns knights with 2/3/4/5/6 strength (down from 3/4/5/6/7).
Gift of the Wise now costs 9 mana (up from 8), and grants 11/12/13/14/15 mana (up from 10/11/12/13/14).
Chillbeards’s ability no longer triggers against the base.

As usual, there will be 4 exclusive packs to collect early copies of the new cards. They all cost $9.99 and bring 5 copies of the given card + 5 fusion stones + 750 coins. They will be available at the pace of one per week throughout November.

DECK IMPORT/EXPORT
The long-awaited deck import/export feature is finally coming! This will help players share decks with one another.

The deck selection screen will now provide an option to export their own decks or import the deck from other players using unique codes.

To import a deck via its code, players need to have all required cards in their collection. If they don’t have all of them, the game will inform which cards are missing.

NEW BOOKS

There will be 8 new books—one per non-neutral race—and a Book of Knights, working in a similar fashion to the Book of Felines and Book of Pirates. They cost 40 rubies, contain 3 cards and have a rarity drop of 50% / 30% / 15% / 5%. There is also a new Book of Temples for 60 rubies, containing 3 cards with 35% / 30% / 20% / 15%.

BLACK FRIDAY OFFERS

Like most holiday events, there will be some one-time only special offers for people willing to put some money into the game. The Black Friday exclusive packs will be available from November 24th (9AM CET) until November 30th (end of day) so be sure to jump on them!

Raining Cats ($9.99): guaranteed 3 copies of each of the 7 rare and epic felines + 3 Classic Tomes
Edrik’s Army ($19.99): 2 copies of Edrik the Fierce + 18 cards amongst the most played across the last 3 months globally*
Emblem of Heroism ($49.99): 35 Heroic Tomes + 2,000 coins
The Greatest Treasure ($99.99): 30 cards from each rarity + 1,000 rubies + 5,000 coins

On top of that, all books (including Noble) will yield an extra card until the end of the Black Friday event. Similarly, the paid bundles yielding coins and rubies will grant +40% more resources for the duration of the Black Friday event.

CHEAPENED BRAWL

Similar to previous events, the Brawl starting on November 25th (and only that one) is going to be cheaper. All fights will be 50% off. Owners of the Premium Pass will also have their usual discount applied, leading to a 60% reduction.

FAQ
When is the update going to be released?
The balance changes will be deployed with the season reset as usual. The rest of the release will come a week later, on November 8th, along with the first of the new cards. The 3 other new cards will be released once per week during the next 3 weeks. The Black Friday special offers will be available during the last week of November.

BALANCE CHANGES

This release, just like any other, will bring some balance changes.

  • Lich Summoners’ spawn’s strength is now 3/4/5/6/7 (up from 3/3/4/5/6).
  • Trekking Aldermen’s ability now deals 3/3/4/4/5 damage (up from 2/2/3/3/4).
  • Razor-Sharp Lynxes’ strength-based ability is now +2 (up from +1).
  • Snake Eyes’ ability now always draws 4 cards (up from 3 at level 1 to 3).
  • Curse of Strings’ mana cost is now 6 (down from 7) and the strength threshold of its ability is now 7/9/11/14/17 (down from 8/10/12/15/18).
  • Flaming Stream’s damage is now 4/5/6/7/8 (up from 3/4/5/6/7).


NEW CARDS
On October 4th, four new neutral ancient cards will be released, with some interesting mechanics that trigger before moving, like for Stoic Protectors. You can find some clarifications around the mechanics in the FAQ at the end of these release notes.

BRAWL MODIFIERS

There will be 4 new Brawl modifiers coming in October to keep things fresh. Most of the modifiers have been there for ages, and y’all know which decks to play in and out. We hope bringing more modifiers will keep the Brawl entertaining and rewarding!

  • Reserve Management: any unused mana point is carried over to the next turn. There is no such thing as wasted mana anymore.
  • Chaos Unleashed: units get a random status effect (silence, freeze, poison, confusion, or vitality) when played.
  • Steady Growth: cards level up (up to level 5) when cycled. They can also be leveled up beyond the Casual/Warrior level cap!
  • The Great Mill: playing any card instantly draws another one. Mana is the true limit.
  • As soon as one of these new modifier shows up, it will be available in friendly mode so you can practice with your friends.
HALLOWEEN EVENT
To celebrate Halloween, there will be a small gift of 30 rubies for anyone logging into the game prior October 31st.

The Trick or Treat big bundle of sweets will also be available between October 4th and October 10th. It will yield 6 Mythic Tomes, 6 Heroic Tomes, and 6 Classic Tomes for $29.99.

In addition, all coins and rubies purchases in the shop will yield 20% extra resources between October 25th and November 14th. Might be a good time to put a few bucks into the game if you were considering it!

There will be some special weekly and monthly vanishing packs available throughout the month of November.

VANISHING PACKS BONUS SYSTEM
To make spending a few bucks here and there into vanishing packs more rewarding, we are introducing a system where every vanishing pack purchase grants you collectible points.

  • Buying a daily vanishing pack yields 1 point.
  • Buying a weekly vanishing pack yields 2 points.
  • Buying a monthly vanishing pack yields 3 points.

These points are used to reach 3 different milestones which yield additional resources. Once the third milestone has been claimed, all 3 milestones will get reset in the next month so they can eventually be collected again.

  • Milestone 1 requires 5 points and yields 1,000 coins.
  • Milestone 2 requires 10 points in total (including the previous milestone) and yields 200 rubies.
  • Milestone 3 requires 15 points in total (including the previous milestones) and yields 50 fusion stones.

As an example, if you collect 6 points in October, you get to collect the reward for the first milestone. When November comes, nothing will get reset: you will still have 6 points, and there will still be 2 milestones to reach. If in November you get 15 points in total, you’ll collect the remaining 2 milestones. Then in December, your points will get back to 0, and the milestones will be available for collection again once you have enough points.

An update made to vanishing packs is also that they are no longer limited to a single purchase for a given period (daily, weekly, monthly). That limit has been increased 3. So a vanishing pack can be bought 3 times per day/week/month.

NEW AVATARS
There will be three new premium avatars introduced in October, for 200 rubies a piece as usual. They are all somewhat gender-neutral: an officer, an elf and some sort of a druid.

FAQ

When is the update going to be released?
The balance changes will be deployed with the season reset as usual. The availability of packs will be spread throughout the month, one Ancient pack a week.

How does Fragmented Essences’ split work?
What happens depends on whether there is 0, 1 or 2 available cells on its sides:

If both side cells are available, Fragmented Essences split their strength (randomly if odd) into two copies, and then both move forward (but not split until next turn), leaving the center tile empty.
If only one side cell is available, Fragmented Essences splits half their strength (rounded down) there, and the copy moves forward (but not split until next turn).
If no side cell are available or Fragmented Essences have only 1 strength, nothing happens and they just move forward without splitting.
Note that the fragments are not tokens though—they also are Fragmented Essences. So they will also split and spawn before they move next.

Status effects such as poison and vitality are preserved on the fragments. So if the base unit is poisoned, fragments will also be poisoned.

Are Bounded Daemons another Dreadfauns?
Not really. Bounded Daemons will spawn every time it moves (or rather, just before) while Dreadfauns only spawns on play. Additionally, Bounded Daemons only spawns on lateral sides, not in front or in the back, so it can move right away.

Can Lost Psyches teleport on the tile they are already on?
No. Either there are available tiles on the row and they will teleport away, or all tiles are occupied and they will not attempt to teleport.
What qualifies as a status effect for Erratic Neglects?
Frozen, confused, vitalized, poisoned or silenced. Same list as for the new Chaos Unleashed Brawl modifier. Note that an already applied status effect cannot be rolled again. So if Erratic Neglects are already poisoned, they cannot roll poison again before moving—only the other status effects.

BALANCE CHANGES

This release, just like any other, will bring some balance changes.
  • Stoic Protectors’ movement is now 1 (up from 0), strength is now 4/5/6/7/8 (up from 3/4/5/6/7) and their ability is now surrounding at all levels and triggers before moving instead of on play only.
  • Chillbeards’ ability now grants 3/4/5/6/7 (down from 4/5/6/7/8) but is made to trigger when attacking a unit, regardless of position.
  • Ludic Matriarchs’ ability now triggers when played bordering a friendly dragon, instead of only one bordering exactly 1 friendly dragon.
  • Mechanical Workers’ strength is now 5/6/7/8/9 (up from 4/5/6/7/8).
  • Rogue Sheep’s ability has been revamped to synergize with pirate cards in the hand of both players. The new ability at level 5 reads as such: “On the play, draw 3 single-use non-pirate card copies from the enemy’s hand. If you have a pirate card in hand, reduce their mana cost by 1.”

NERF COMPENSATION

As usual, some compensation in the form of coins and fusion stones will be provided to owners of Rogue Sheep, proportional to the level and rarity of the card. Find below the compensation values for each rarity and level.

Legendary card: 1 fusion stone at level 1, 20 coins and 5 fusion stones at level 2, 50 coins and 10 fusion stones at level 3, 150 coins and 20 fusion stones at level 4, 300 coins, and 50 fusion stones at level 5.


NEW CARD

A new card will be introduced on September 23rd: Sparkly Kitties. I am beyond humbled getting a card dedicated to me in the game, especially on the 4 years anniversary mark, almost 2.5 years to the day after I launched Stormbound-Kitty. Thank you to the team, and thank you to the incredible Stormbound community.

SPARKLY KITTIES:
On play, confuse itself then gain 2 speed.

Movement: 0/0/0/0/0

The reason the card is marked as having 0 movements only to gain it on play is to avoid a confusing (no pun intended) movement tooltip in-game. If it had initial movement, the arrow would show moving forward twice, while this would not be the outcome.

ANNIVERSARY GIFTS

To celebrate this special event, anyone logging into the game on September 18th (and only that day) will receive the following bundle: 400 coins, 40 rubies, 4 fusion stones, and 1 legendary card.

On top of that, all coin gains will be doubled between September 17th and September 20th, except for quests. The coin cap will also be doubled for that timeframe, reaching 800 coins for all players, and 1,400 coins for Premium Pass holders.

Last but not least, all books will contain more cards between September 17th and September 20th. Books normally holding 3 cards will contain 4, and books usually containing 6 cards (Mythic, Heroic, and Classic) will yield 8!

CHEAPENED BRAWL

Similar to previous events, the Brawl starting on September 16th (and only that one) is going to be cheaper. All fights will be 50% off. Owners of the Premium Pass will also have their usual discount applied, leading to a 60% reduction.

EXCLUSIVE OFFERS

For those of you willing to put a few bucks into the game and supporting the creators, this anniversary event will introduce 4 special in-app purchases. They will all be available for a week from September 13th.

The $4.99 pack will yield:

QUALITY OF LIFE IMPROVEMENTS
This release will bring 3 neat little quality of life improvements:

Search bar: the deck building and collection screens will now have a small search bar to filter cards by name, ability, or type. This should make it easier to compose new decks, especially for the Brawl.

Shop refresh: it will now be possible to reroll the offers from the card shop once a day by watching an ad (or for free for Premium Pass holders). Note that only the cards that have not been bought would be refreshed.

Upcoming Brawls: the Brawl mode will now showcase which Brawls are coming, alongside their modifiers and rewards to better prepare from one week to the next.

August Update

BALANCE CHANGES

This release, like any other, brings some balance changes.
  • Temple of Life’s ability now considers all friendly units (instead of surrounding only), but affects less units at all levels (from 2/3/4/5/6 to 1/2/2/3/3). It also attempts to spawn a 1-strength copy of itself on the tile behind, like a tree expanding its roots. Additionally, its strength has been decreased by 1 (from 3/4/5/6/7 to 2/3/4/5/6).
  • Temple of the Mind’s ability still triggers at the start of the turn but now grants (or removes if already present) fixedly forward movement to the leftmost unit in the hand, then destroys the weakest confused unit on the board.
  • Queen of Herds’ strength is now 8/10/12/12/14 (up from 6/8/10/10/12).
  • Blood Ministers’ strength is now 5/6/7/8/10 (up from 3/4/5/6/8).
  • Rogue Sheepnow costs 4 mana (down from 6) and its strength is now 3/4/5/6/7 (up from 2/3/4/5/7). Additionally, its ability is reworked from scratch. It now draws up to 1/1/2/2/3 card copies from the enemy’s hand, and reduces the mana cost of these copies by 1. Card copies can be cycled like normal cards but they are single-use. They do not go back into the deck once they’ve been played once.

Quite uniquely, Rogue Sheep owners will be compensated with the usual rewards despite the card being reworked and overall buffed. We decided to do so because you’re effectively “losing” a card you might have invested your resources in.

COMPENSATION

As usual, some compensation in the form of coins and fusion stones will be provided to owners of Rogue Sheep, proportional to the level and rarity of the card. Find below the compensation values for each rarity and level.

Legendary card: 1 fusion stone at level 1, 20 coins and 5 fusion stones at level 2, 50 coins and 10 fusion stones at level 3, 150 coins and 20 fusion stones at level 4, 300 coins and 50 fusion stones at level 5.

NEW CARD

Another temple card will come early August, the Temple of Time! As its name might suggest, it plays with the flow of the game, restoring friendly units and structures to the state of the previous turn.

TEMPLE OF TIME:
At the end of your turn, remember the state of surrounding friendly units and structures. At the start of your turn, restore X of them to that state.

As usual, there will be an exclusive pack to quickly get access to the new card, for a week after its release date. To celebrate Sheepyard’s first anniversary taking care of the game, there will also be a Sheepyard Pack available, as well as a Rogue Sheep pack.

They will each cost $9.99, and will grant the following:
  • 1 random legendary card, 500 coins, 100 rubies, 50 fusion stones - It will be available between July 29th and August 1st.
  • 1 copy of Rogue Sheep, 5 fusion stones, 750 coins - It will be available for a week from August 8th.
  • 1 copy of Temple of Time, 5 fusion stones, 750 coins - It will be available for a week from August 15th.


BRAWL BONUSES

The second part of the new heart system will be introduced in late July in the form of Brawl winning bonuses.

The idea is that after every victory in Brawl, the player will be offered one of two random bonuses, amongst a set of 9 different possible bonuses (see the complete list below). Some of them will provide resources while some will improve the player’s livelihood in Brawl by redeeming and refilling hearts.

A player begins a Brawl adventure in the selected tier with 3 full green hearts (just like it is right now). When losing a match, a player loses one heart (it gets emptied and red). If all hearts are lost, then the player’s crowns get reset to the beginning of the current milestone.

Here is the breakdown of every victory bonus:

  • Fortress Up bonus: Picking this bonus will increase the Fortress Level of the player by 1 within the current Brawl difficulty and only for Brawl matches. It will not increase the Fortress Level beyond the cap for that Brawl. This bonus cannot be drawn if already capped.
  • Life/Lives Up bonuses: Picking these bonuses will refill a heart (or all hearts), giving the player extra chances to climb the milestones without being reset to the start of the current milestone.
  • Rusty Slot: Picking this bonus will grant the player an extra heart slot (up to 5 heart slots in total). Once the player loses a life from this slot, the slots destroys itself. It also destroys itself on milestone reset.
  • Solidify: Picking this bonus will make one of the player’s Rusty slots hearts indestructible. From there on, it behaves like one of three default slots.
  • Ice Armor: Picking this bonus will give an Ice Armor to the first full heart. After a loss, the Ice Armor gets destroyed while keeping the heart beneath it intact.
  • Resources bonuses: Picking these bonuses will immediately grant the player a certain amount of resources, varying based on the Brawl difficulty and milestone.
    • The Coins bonus can be obtained from the very first milestone. Its rewards can go up to 100 coins in Casual, 250 coins in Warrior and coin coins in Ultimate.
    • The Rubies bonus can be obtained from milestone 3 onwards and can go up to 25 rubies in Casual, 50 rubies in Warrior and 100 rubies in Ultimate.
    • The Fusion Stones can be obtained from milestone 5 onwards and bonus can go up to 3 fusion stones in Casual, 10 fusion stones in Warrior and 25 fusion stones in Ultimate.


CHEAPENED BRAWL

Similar to previous events, the Brawl starting on July 29th (and only that one) is going to be cheaper. All fights will be 10% off. Owners of the Premium Pass will also have their usual discount applied, leading to a 20% reduction.

COMPENSATION
Additionally, to apologize for the recent sub-par experience with the Brawl, every player logging at least once into the game before the end of 29th of July will be rewarded with 500 coins.

BOOKS UPDATE

Four new books will be introduced, all available to buy with rubies as usual. We hope they help players sharpening their collection!

  • The new Book of Magic costs 40 rubies and contains 3 spells with rarity odds being 50/30/20/0.
  • The new Book of Structures costs 40 rubies and contains 3 structures with rarity odds being 50/30/15/5.
  • The new Book of Chaos costs 50 rubies and contains 3 cards with the word “random” (or its localized equivalent) in their ability with rarity odds being 25/25/25/25.
  • The new Book of Legends costs 120 rubies and contains 3 legendary cards.

On top of that, some existing books will be updated to be more interesting:

  • The Book of Archdragons now costs 90 rubies (down from 120 rubies).
  • The Book of Dragons now costs 40 rubies (down from 60 rubies) and its rarity odds are now 20/60/15/5 (improved from 20/60/20/0).
  • The Book of Elders now costs 40 rubies (down from 60 rubies) and its rarity odds are now 0/60/35/5 (improved from 0/67/30/3).
  • The Book of Pirates now costs 40 rubies (down from 60 rubies) and its rarity odds are now 50/30/15/5 (improved from 55/25/15/5).
  • The Book of Felines now costs 40 rubies (down from 60 rubies).
DAILY CHECK-IN REDEEMING

We are introducing a way to redeem some skipped days from the daily check-in calendar for non-Premium users. Every day, you’ll be able to redeem a skipped day reward by watching an ad.

We hope this will help players with a more sporadic involvement with the game to still get all the rewards they need to progress.

  • Slyboots now force the confused unit(s) to move after confusing them.
  • Excited Mousers’ strength is now 5/6/7/9/11 (up from 3/4/5/6/7), mana is now 5 (up from 3), and their ability now counts all friendly units on the board instead of surrounding only.
  • Destructobots can now inflict damage to friendly structures instead of friendly units only.
  • Temple of Space’s ability now only destroys the older copy instead of both temples.
  • Spellbinder Zhevana’s ability can now trigger on friendly units as well such as Iceflakes.
  • Counselor Ahmi’s ability now considers all surrounding units.
  • Temple of Focus no longer deals self-damage.


NERF COMPENSATION

As usual, some compensation in the form of coins and fusion stones will be provided to owners of Destructobots and Counselor Ahmi, proportional to the level and rarity of the card. Find below the compensation values for each rarity and level.

Rare card: 15 coins and 2 fusion stones at level 2, 30 coins and 3 fusion stones at level 3, 90 coins and 7 fusion stones at level 4, 190 coins, and 10 fusion stones at level 5.
Legendary card: 1 fusion stone at level 1, 20 coins and 5 fusion stones at level 2, 50 coins and 10 fusion stones at level 3, 150 coins and 20 fusion stones at level 4, 300 coins and 50 fusion stones at level 5.

NEW CARD

A new card is joining the neutral faction, an alternative to Fort of Ebonrock, which plays on the new “fixedly forward” movement that was introduced with Headless Hotheads.

TEMPLE OF THE MIND:

Str: 2/3/5/6/7
Ability: At the start of your turn, give fixedly forward movement to a random non‑Hero unit card from your hand, then kill all friendly confused units

As usual, there will be an exclusive pack to quickly get access to some copies of the new card, for a week after its release date.

NEW BRAWLS

Following the revamp of the Brawl from June, this release is going to bring 4 new and very unique Brawl modifiers.

  • Pure Amalgamation: Both players are forced to play the same deck (at the same levels), randomly composed of 6 cards of one player and 6 cards of the other. No duplicates and the strongest card copy is preferred.
  • Fights of Threes: A player cannot place more than 3 units on the board. Therefore, this Brawl will encourage a careful balance of units, spells, and structures to be successful.
  • Interestingly, Summon Militia and Call for Aid can be played but their tokens immediately get destroyed if there are already 3 friendly units on the board.
  • Thin No-Man’s Land: The initial frontline starts on the second row instead of the first and cannot fall lower than the second row at any time.
  • Stunning attack: Units get confused on receiving any damage. This Brawl should be all about confusion.
  • To celebrate these new Brawls, the Pure Amalgamation modifier will be issued on all difficulty levels on July 1st as a tryout. Enjoy it!
DECK SLOTS

After having considered the community’s opinion on the cost of the new deck slots, we decided to significantly reduce it to 25 rubies, 50 rubies, and 100 rubies.

In order to make sure no one wasted resources needlessly, players who already bought these slots will receive compensation of course.

When is the update going to be released?

The balance changes will be deployed with the season reset as usual. Temple of the Mind will be available from July 2nd along with its promotional pack (for a week). The new Brawl modifiers will be released in the next few weeks.
