Halloween Horrors Haunt New Eden!

Bloodcurdling Capsuleers,

Beware – Halloween is nearly upon us, and New Eden has been plunged into its spookiest season yet! A new Crimson Harvest event, daily login rewards, a special Proving Ground event, increased PVP loot drops, and special offers are all imminent, so get ready for a fully packed season of frights!

CRIMSON HARVEST

EVE’s premiere Blood Raider seasonal event has begun once again, starting today and running until 9 November! This year, Capsuleers will be met in battle by the forces of the Order of St. Tetrimon, an Amarr religious order dedicated to the preservation of the scriptures of the faith. Join the Order in their campaign to drown this sanguine spectacle in laserfire, or for the first time ever take the side of the Blood Raiders, venerating the Harvest and painting New Eden in crimson!

Combat and hacking sites for both sides of the conflict are appearing in Highsec, Lowsec, Nullsec, and Wormhole systems, with the advanced sites spawning in Lowsec systems within the Derelik region, as well as within Blood Raider-controlled systems in Delve. Additionally, communications intercepts have revealed whispers of deeper, more vital sites being established across the cluster, which may only be tracked down through escalations of the advanced combat sites.

Choose which side to support in the Agency section for the event, with unique sets of challenges and rewards for either path. Additionally, you can look forward to special daily login rewards packed with Skill Points, special Boosters, and new SKINs!

TRICK OR TREAT

During the event, PVP kills can be expected to drop loot at an increased rate, averaging at 90%! Carve out your harvest from the wrecks of your targets, which will be marked with a special pumpkin icon , but beware in your prowl for treats – you may very well become someone else’s!

FRIGHTENING OMEGA SAVINGS

Rise from the dead at your full potential, with a discount on every Omega subscription! The one, three, six, and twelve-month options are all available now at 15% off, but only until 3 November – so save big on immortality while you can!

MONSTERS FROM THE MURK

The Malagrin Marshlight SKIN series will be returning to the NES for the Harvest, with added availability on 8 additional hulls! Headhunter SKINs will also be returning, giving pilots a fantastic selection of terrifying visages to display as you trick-or-treat across the cluster. Check out the SKINs on offer, and prepare for a season of frights!

BONUS CANDY

Keep an eye out for some extra treats: each 240, 500, 2860, and 7430 PLEX package purchased during the event will come with its own free Deathglow Hunters SKIN!

A BLOOD-RED PROVING

A new 4-player free-for-all Destroyer Proving Ground will be running Halloween weekend, from 29 October to 2 November, in celebration of the Crimson Harvest, with an arena effect providing an increase to Stasis Webifier range, Nosferatu and Energy Neutralizer strength, and Laser turret damage! Only the Coercer, Dragoon, Cormorant, Corax, Catalyst, Algos, Thrasher, and Talwar-class Destroyers may enter, with modules limited to meta level 5 and pirate implants restricted. Demonstrate your fervor and quench your thirst for blood in this special event!

The Harvest is upon us, so fly safe, and see you in space!

Eve's new tutorial takes players through the basics with an action-packed story

Eve Online is one of the longest-running MMORPGs out there, and that's despite a reputation for being a game of 'spreadsheets in space.' Developer CCP Games has laboured for years to smooth out its notoriously steep learning curve, and a revamped new player experience, which rolled out just before its arrival on the Epic Games Store in September, might be just the thing to keep players around long enough to get hooked.

When you create a new character - or capsuleer - in Eve Online, you have the option to complete the tutorial, which now includes a much more dramatic narrative sequence that helps set up the universe of New Eden and introduces elements of Eve's daunting UI piece by piece.

"One of the key principles we had was 'never overwhelm,'" Tryggvi Hjaltason, a senior strategist at CCP, tells us. "We were trying to figure out what's the main reason players turn from our game early. And the number one reason by far - it's like 68% or something - is that they're overwhelmed."

The Community Beat!

Welcome back, Capsuleers, to the Community Beat.

In our inaugural publication, we covered some wonderful community projects, events, artists, and content creators. We greatly appreciate everyone’s feedback and suggestions, and we look forward to seeing more of it in the coming weeks.
If this is your first Community Beat, worry not, as this is a relatively new project. To get you up to speed, our aim with these articles is to provide a foundation for all aspects of the EVE community: in-game events, developer chats, player meets, CSM reports, and much more. With a landscape as diverse and turbulent as EVE’s has become over the last near-nineteen years, no version of the Community Beat will ever look the same.

As is customary for the Beat, sit back, crack open a brand new Apple Quafe, and enjoy!

Battle Report!

As part of the player-organized Totality Day events, Wirashoda played host to a spectacular brawl last weekend. The events pay homage to one of Pochven’s most exciting - and bloody - battles, which took place this summer. That encounter saw Electus Matari finishing off an Azbel belonging to the Triglavian loyalist group, Stribog Clade, in a nail-biting finale.

This weekends’ festivities were more celebratory than tactical, although that didn’t diminish from the action! With over a dozen fleets involved, the brawl continued for over two hours, and featured ships ranging from Frigates to Marauders.

Shortly after 21:00, the first two fleets arrived on grid and the battle began in earnest. The biggest ballers of the night were Jazzy Jassamune Omanid and the combined group of PHUB/PHEW/LBUS/T0AST/KYBER. They brought not one, not two, but FIVE Marauders out to play, along with assorted support ships and logi. Jassamune's big bucket of red meat chummed the waters, and proved to be irresistible to the circling sharks hunting for juicy killmails. Most of the fleets turned to clear the Marauders first. – Sahara Jackal

CCPTV

This week we saw CCP Convict & former CSM council member Steve Ronuken host an informative Quasar Devblog panel with Team Tech Co, live on CCPTV. Covering the technical aspects of EVE’s future is always fascinating, and was a hit for both tech-savvy and casual players alike. If you missed it live, no worries! You can watch a recording of it here.

Coming up on CCPTV this week, Mike Kingswell continues his lecture series on EVE mechanics at 18:00 UTC, this Saturday 23 October. This week’s presentation will cover the ins and outs of one of EVE’s core mechanics for surviving in - and interacting with - New Eden: the Directional Scanner (DSCAN). Thanks Mike - and EVE University - for sharing your knowledge with us!

In-game Event: Eden Trade’s Halloween Treats

It’s trick-or-treat time, New Eden-style! The Crimson Harvest isn’t alone in the spooky festivities. Eden Trade is bringing back its Halloween Event this year, with over 45 billion ISK in treats to be doled out in Stacmon. Of course, it just wouldn’t be EVE without some explosions too, so a post-giveaway brawl has been scheduled in Placid’s most notorious pirate den: Ostingele. Expect a bevy of pumpkin-shaped-wrecks, and with so many potential explosions enterprising salvagers may make off with some handsome rewards.

Mark your calendars and keep up with the festivities on Eden Trade’s official forum thread!

Lore Corner

While most of EVE’s denizens are familiar with the cap-sucking ways of the Blood Raiders, or the wily exploits of V. Salvador Sarpati and the Serpentis, there are some smaller groups that perhaps you’re not as familiar with. Not as universally notorious, The Order of St. Tetrimon also have a long and storied history, specifically within the Amarr Empire.

During the rule of Empress Catiz I, the fortunes of the Order of St. Tetrimon have continued to improve. Under the leadership of Grand Master Khemon Dulsur an-Tetrimon, the Order has established a role as a force useful for seeking out and suppressing rebellion and heresy. Increasing conflict across New Eden has revitalized the "Religious Reclaimer" tendency among the Amarr Empire's powerful nobility and brought support for the Order. Militant and conservative houses such as the Ardishapur and Sarum have forged cordial relations with the Tetrimon, in an Amarr Empire with royal houses, powerful ministries, and religious factions carefully balanced against one another by a relatively new Empress.

Swing by the Order of St. Tetrimon Fortress Monastery in Thebeka to witness the monument. If you'd like to know more, you can brush up on your Amarr lore and learn about Inirie Ardishapur, the dark history of Emperor Zaragram II, and the Order of St Tetrimon.

Who knows when this information may prove useful...

That's all for this installment. Head on over to the EVE Online forums to chat and share your stories.

Restructuring Taxes After Relief

Entrepreneurial Capsuleers,

Back in July, we introduced a temporary Brokers Fee and Sales Tax reduction across New Eden with the Grand Heist release, which was stated to last for three months. This period has now reached its end - but instead of merely returning to the market’s previous taxes, a modified tax structure will be coming your way soon.

In the Grand Heist release, the base Sales Tax and Brokers Fee in NPC stations were each cut in half, going from 5.0% to 2.5%. In place of the previous numbers, taxes will be changing to the following structure:

Base Unmodified Taxes:
 • Sales Tax: 2.5% -> 8.0% (Previously 5.0%)
 • Brokers Fee: 2.5% -> 3.0% (Previously 5.0%)
 • Total Taxes: 5.0% -> 11.0% (Previously 10.0%)

Minimum Taxes (Modified by Skills, Standings, etc):
 • Sales Tax: 1.125% -> 3.6% (Previously 2.25%)
 • Brokers Fee: 0.5% -> 1.0% (Previously 3.0%)
 • Total Taxes: 1.625% -> 4.6% (Previously 5.25%)

This change shifts a higher percentage of the tax division toward the sales tax instead of on the order placement, permanently reducing the cost-pressure associated with listing orders by moving the cost into the sales tax taken out upon purchase by another player.

In effect, trading at base tax values under the new structure will increase total taxes by 1% compared to pre-relief values – but if you operate with taxes reduced to their minimum, your total taxes will be decreased by 0.625% compared to pre-relief, on top of requiring less ISK to list your orders in the first place!

See you in space (or in station, for all you market moguls), and fly safe!

Summon The Swarm Update Live Now

Attention Capsuleers,

The Summon the Swarm update is now live in EVE Online, providing daring pilots with a new opportunity to earn exciting rewards!

This update introduces a new deployable structure, the CONCORD Rogue Analysis Beacon - or CRAB. This new deployable is authorized for use in Low and Null security space to research local Rogue Drone activities.

To begin its broadcast and analysis cycles, it must be powered up through the use of a capital or supercapital class vessel. Once initialized, it will attract hostile Rogue Drone threats that must be destroyed in order to complete the analysis cycle.

Successful completion will reward pilots with new mutaplasmid technology for mutating drones, as well as both bounties and research data to be handed in for additional ISK.

Thanks to extensive player testing on the Singularity test server, a number of improvements have been made that significantly enhance the experience of the new update:

 • Fighter targeting AI has been refined, allowing more ship types to complete the sites.
 • Deployables have been further restricted, to prevent interference with nearby Player Owned Structures or Citadels.
 • Bounty rewards have been more than doubled in the live release!
 • Infested Ogres have been modified to no longer pause the site.

Ready for a new challenge? Form your fleet, acquire a Rogue Analysis Beacon, and prepare to summon the swarm!
CONCORD Preliminary Field Research Report
Over the course of many repeated deployments of the CRAB, it was observed that active scanning for Rogue Drone activities failed. Analysis of test data indicates signal interference rapidly reaches a saturation point within the local system rendering further operation ineffective. Restrictions and information systems have been integrated into CRAB deployable structures, providing researchers with the current state of local system signal interference levels. This information will also be updated into Neocom firmware used by capsuleers going forward.

CRAB deployment and activation requires the involvement of capsuleers, due to a specific design requirement for using the secure FTL communications equipment available within hydrostatic capsules. However, capsules only have a limited reserve of Complex Encryption Qubits (CEQs) available for use to securely establish the link with the CRAB, and bridge to CONCORD FTL networks, during the broadcast cycle. This will impose limitations on use, as repeated linking to a CRAB by the same capsuleer will eventually deplete their reserve of CEQs. The CEQ reserves available for secure linking will regenerate over time as the capsule systems generate new encryption keys.

During the course of our CRAB testing and analysis, DED fleets engaged a number of extremely dangerous modified Rogue Drones. It has been found that these newly-detected Rogue Drones have been mutated by the use of new Rogue Drone technology. Our fleets have made note of several new mutaplasmids retrieved by the CRAB from the remains of the Rogue Drone threats encountered, all with radically different characteristics from the mutaplasmids retrieved from Triglavian technology caches. This finding urgently demands further study. Due to the extreme threat from these entities, we have assigned bounties on every discovered new Rogue Drone variation so far.

On completion of the broadcast and analysis cycle, the CRAB will relay its findings. The operating capsuleer may retrieve any resources recovered by the CRAB. CONCORD has now set up purchase orders for Rogue Drone Infestation Data collected during the operation of the CRAB, incentivizing capsuleers to sell their observation data for our research team to study further.
