CSM 17 - Meet Your Candidates!

Democratically minded Capsuleers!

Over the last couple of weeks, we have reviewed all the CSM applications to ensure that they meet the outlined guidelines and eligibility requirements. We initially made a commitment this round of aiming to have a 72-hour turnaround for applicants this term. We acknowledge that we didn’t hit that number as close as we’d hoped with every single applicant due to a combination of issues surrounding both Fanfest and COVID-19 illness across the team, but we did still get the bulk of the applications confirmed in record time.

To give a summary and reminder of the timeline for upcoming CSM17 key dates:
 • 2 May – 16 May – Submissions Open
 • 9 May – 20 May – Application Processing
 • 25 May – Live Candidates announcement (You are here)
 • 25 May – 5 June – Active Campaign Period
 • 7 June (11:00 UTC) - 14 June (11:00 UTC) – Voting period
 • 16 June – CSM 17 Announcement

However, with no further ado, it is with great excitement that we can confirm and present to you the full list of candidates for the upcoming Council of Stellar Management 17! From events operators to 3rd party developers and from Nullsec candidates to Highsec candidates (with a sprinkling from Pochven, Wormhole, and Lowsec) we have a great selection of applicants this year!

We are excited to confirm that the total number of applicants this year is 45 people. Only three of the incumbents have made a return this year, so it’s shaping up to be a very fresh-looking CSM next term.

The CSM Campaign period begins now, 25 May, and runs for a little under two weeks until 5 June. During this period, you will be able to learn more about your prospective candidates and hear about why they should earn your votes! Each candidate has a forum thread on the Eve Online forums with a comprehensive overview of their campaign platform. Of course, many of our Eve Online Partners and other content producers may offer to cover the CSM campaigns, providing a plethora of sounding boards for the various messages that candidates would like to get across.

As with last year, CCP will be hosting brief interviews with the candidates during this active campaign period live on CCPTV. We’ll be announcing the schedule around this time, so keep an eye out on Twitter, Facebook, and the forums to tune in and hear from your favourite candidate. Don’t worry if you can’t attend live, though, the VoD will be saved on the channel giving you ample opportunity to listen to the interviews for any of the candidates during the voting period!

The CSM elections utilize a unique voting system, called the STV system. it is possible to select a variety of candidates to vote for on your ballot and we’d recommend that you fill your ballot sheet up with those who have piqued your interest as there is always an opportunity that the votes will trickle down if someone on your ballot gets voted in!

Get Ready for Anger Games 5

Competitive capsuleers,

The Anger Games returns to EVE in its fifth iteration! This community-ran PvP tournament kicks off on 28 May with 32 teams going head-to-head in a double elimination 7v7 arena format. In double elimination, losing teams drop to a lower bracket, fighting to stay in for a chance to win. If you’re a fan of tournament PvP then you don’t want to miss this as it kicks off this Saturday at 17:00 UTC!

You can watch the Anger Games over on CCP TV so don’t miss out on your chance to see it live with thousands of other spectators. Every team will be playing on the first night (Saturday) and on Sunday. Lucky teams will play on towards a gripping final on 12 June at 19:00 UTC. The schedule is below, and you can find the full bracket on Challonge.
Weekend 1
• 28 May – Round 1 (Stream starting 16:45 UTC, matches start 17:00)

 • 12 June – Semifinals, Losers Bracket Finals, and Grand Finals (Stream starting 16:45 UTC, matches start 17:00)

The finals will feature a new “Rolling Conquest” ban system, where the team that was victorious in a preceding round will not be able to feature the same ships that they previously used, but do not carry over to subsequent matches.

You can find the rest of the rules here.

All teams entered the tournament with a 2,500 PLEX entry fee which has been added to a grand prize pool alongside additional CCP contributions such as the Mordus Triumphant Elite SKINs. Of course, there’s more than just prize money to be won here, with the title of victor tasting all the sweeter for the team that works hard to claim it.

This is the fifth time the Anger Games has returned as an annual event so if you want to take it that step further then join the Anger Games Discord and be the first to know about the next iteration of this exciting series. Teams are always looking for pilots and anyone is free to submit their teams to the games or join a team as a single pilot.

And for some lighter PvP action, a set of Abyssal Proving Grounds will be running throughout the duration of the games, so keep an eye on EVE News for more! If you can look away from the Anger Games, that is.

Eve Online's browser version is now available to everyone

Eve Online is one of those MMORPGs that tends to worm its way into your daily life - checking in with your corp, monitoring trades and market prices, and even just snagging daily login bonuses can easily turn into regular rituals. Now it's even easier to indulge the urge, as Eve Anywhere lets you play Eve in just about any web browser, even if you're an alpha (free-to-play) clone. You will, however, have to pay for the privilege.

Eve Anywhere has been open to Omega subscribers for the past several months in beta, but now it's available to Alpha players as well. Built in collaboration with Intel, Eve Anywhere lets you login to your Eve Online account in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge and play Eve Online as you normally would from client software installed on your PC.

While you won't need to install anything, CCP says you'll need an internet connection of 25Mbps or higher, and server capacity is limited - although the company says that will increase over time, along with the number of countries where the Eve Anywhere service is available. If you're an Alpha player, you'll also need some PLEX - each 24 hours of Eve Anywhere costs 30 PLEX, which works out to be around $1.50 USD / £1.20.

Welcome back Capsuleers!

It feels like just yesterday when downtown Reykjavik was bustling with EVE players for Fanfest. It was an incredibly awesome experience, and if you missed any of the content you can catch it all back on our YouTube or Twitch channels. The city won’t be the same without you, but fortunately we have many ways to chat with players between Fanfests.
CSM Season is Here!
The Council of Stellar Management elections are in full swing! The CSM is a unique institution where some of EVE’s most passionate players partake in democratic elections to work closely with CCP to provide player insights and shape the future of New Eden. CSM 16 have done a remarkable job this year, but as their terms come to an end it’s time for a new batch of candidates to take up the mantel. CSM 17 will be looking very different this year, with only 3 incumbents running for re-election.

Candidates will be posting their campaign threads over on the EVE Online Forums ahead of the live candidate announcement on 25 May over on CCP TV.
Anger Games Heating Up!
Way back in February we chatted about Anger Games 5, but the action has officially heated up! With the Feeder Rounds officially finished, the full Anger Games 5 Schedule is set to kick off on CCPTV on 28 May at 16:45.

Pick your favorite team, predict the upsets, and just hang out with tons of players who enjoy the e-sports side of EVE Online. Who knows, maybe you can pick up a few tricks to use in this years Alliance Tournament!
Community Spotlight: The Wormhole Report
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Wormholes can be mysterious, but an awesome project spearheaded by Luna Kallevig of the Jovian Collective takes a data-driven approach to show exactly what’s going on in w-space! The Wormhole Report features dozens of insightful graphs covering ships used, PvP kills, most dangerous areas of space, and more! We’re really excited by this new project and can’t wait to see its evolution. Speaking of explosions, the JoveCo Mining Division team faces off against the fierce Templis CALSF team in the first match of the Anger Games!
CSM Royale!
While CCP TV will host interviews with every candidate during the official Campaign Period (25 May to 5 June), a project spearheaded by content creator DTM135 - the CSM Royale - begins anew for CSM 17 at 21:30 on 21 May on DTM’s Twitch Channel.

Injecting some levity into the process, the CSM Royale sees prospective candidates debate a variety of EVE topics, while the audience gets to vote for a winner and loser after each round of debate. The CSM Royale is an incredibly fun format to hear from a wide array of candidates and help fill out your ballot for the upcoming elections. What’s more? The community also turns this into a charity fund-raising event, with the proceeds this year supporting Kids Alive International. This has proven to be one of the more exciting community-drive CSM events, and we can’t wait to hear from an all-new crop of candidates this year!
