Friendship Week Returns!

Spacefaring friends,

The best ship in New Eden is friendship! It’s there when we fly side-by-side, when we explore distant pockets of space together, and even when we dance among the stars unloading firepower into each other’s hulls.

To celebrate all the friendships made in EVE Online – and to inspire a few new ones - Friendship Week is back! It’s that time of year when we come together with our closest fellow pilots, reconnect with friends we’ve not seen in some time, and celebrate the amazing community spirit we’ve built together.

Running from now until 3 March, Friendship Week connects players across the globe and spotlights the community of pilots that have been the beating heart of EVE Online since its debut nearly 19 years ago. That means you can expect live streams, special offers, and more, all with a view to recognizing the friendships, bonds, and allegiances that make EVE what it is.
WARP TO CCPTV
During Friendship Week, CCPTV will be packed with streams and celebrations, playing host to some of our most fun and engaging content creators. So, tune in throughout the week to enjoy some EVE and hang out with space friends in chat!

Keep an eye on CCPTV for more, and be sure to tune in on 26 Feb in particular. This Saturday will feature 12 hours of back-to-back streams from 11:30 UTC, hosted by EVE streamers Gustav Mannfred, Torvald Uruz, and The Oz.

While watching streams on the official CCPTV channel you can accumulate CCP Loyalty Points which can be traded in on Twitch for free GalNet StreamCast SKINs.
DEV CARAVAN
Make sure you tune in on Tuesday 1 March from 16:00 UTC as well for the Friendship Week dev roam where CCP, GMs, and ISDs will be led around New Eden by famous Initiative FC and streamer Pandoralica!

You can watch us get blown up on stream or come looking for us as we make our way around New Eden. We might even have some goodies in the cargo for whoever is lucky enough to bust those piñatas!
FLEET UP!
Ultimately, Friendship Week is all about you and your fellow pilots. It’s an opportunity to share memories of the bonds that have been built in EVE, while giving each of us a chance to connect with those in the community we’re yet to spend time with.

If you’re yet to find friends among the stars, check out EVE Academy’s video on how to find a corp in EVE! Keep an eye on EVE’s social channels for more – and to keep up to date on Friendship Week challenges and contests.

Additionally, now that we’re officially on the Road to Fanfest, Friendship Week provides a chance to connect with your EVE buddies before we meet for real in Reykjavik - at the first in-person Fanfest in close to four years!

EVE Academy – Basic Industrial Production

Academic Capsuleers,

A new tutorial has been added to EVE Academy! This video focuses on basic production, blueprints, and manufacturing as a part of the Industrialist path. You can find the video below or over on the EVE Academy site itself.

EVE Academy is your guide to New Eden - a website aimed at giving new EVE Online players the best start by providing a tailored learning experience. It provides a wealth of information designed to help you decide who you want to be. Pick from Explorer, Industrialist, Enforcer (PvE) or Soldier of Fortune (PvP) to get skill plans, beginner ship fittings, and curated links to resources created by the EVE Online community.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Blueprints come in two variants, originals and their copies. Many of the Tech 1 (basic technology) blueprint originals can be purchased on the market from NPC sell orders depending on the region you are in. The blueprint window will then show you the materials required and the time that it will take to create that specific item.

You can start this process by placing the blueprint into the Industry window and selecting one of several jobs: manufacturing will create the item if you have the materials, copying will produce a limited copy for invention or production elsewhere, and research will either reduce the manufacturing time (Time Efficiency) or lower the amount of materials required (Material Efficiency). These science and manufacturing jobs will, however, take up build slots, limiting the number of jobs that a Capsuleer can have running at once.

New content is always being added to the Academy so be sure to check back regularly to get the latest new videos to help you excel in EVE Online!

NPE Update: Teach a man to fish...

New Capsuleers are a vital part of life in New Eden. As part of the ongoing efforts to improve the New Player Experience we launched a revamped version of the NPE program back in September, and it’s about to receive a further update!

Upon starting EVE, new players experience a story-driven adventure, in which they attempt to identify the attacker who disrupted their Capsuleer training program. In this latest update, a new chapter of the story draws new players towards a mysterious mining site, where they’ll learn the basics of mining, and discover the economic opportunities that underpin life in New Eden.

By engaging with this adventure, players will learn essential skills to help them earn an income, become more invested in the world of EVE Online, and feel excited to embark upon their journey through the stars. You can test these work-in-progress changes yourself on Singularity and enjoy the live experience on Tranquility from 8 March.
Solving A Mystery While Making Some Money
The new AIR NPE has received a warm response from the community since it launched back in September. As part of our ongoing commitment to building a high-quality, story-driven introduction to EVE Online, we decided to add this new industrial chapter, as well as polish the existing experience further.

First up, the longer station stops which can often be overwhelming to new players. Frequent drop-out points have now been broken up into shorter, and more meaningful engagements, where players will learn how to train skills and fit ships for a purpose more closely related to the adventure and goals ahead of them.

We also want to ground players in the economics of EVE and provide a foundation of knowledge to help them make a living in EVE. This story teaches them how to gather resources through mining, and loot items in space. As every Capsuleer knows, trading on the market is also an essential skill! Thus, the new player is introduced to the concept of selling their gains for ISK and learning how the wallet works in the process.

Everyone needs a good friend to help them along the way, of course. Elias Peltonnen will be your companion throughout this mining adventure, along with your trusty A.I. companion AURA. As you begin your mining expedition in a beautiful, undisclosed location, mysterious events will begin to unfold that you’ll need to investigate. Perhaps some critical clues relating to the wider story are hidden here amongst the space rocks?

With the player now excited about the mining skills they’ve mastered, we point them to the resource tab in the Agency. From here, players are introduced to some of the other opportunities that can help them shape their future as Capsuleers in New Eden.
Helping Players To Help Themselves
EVE holds a deeper promise for immersion, character building, adventure-shaping and community-building than most other games and online communities. But getting to a point where you can appreciate that, and really feel like you can take on the world is no small task to deliver.

A guiding principle for the new AIR NPE has been to offer an enjoyable, mystery-driven space adventure that prepares pilots for a deeply immersive world with endless possibilities. We aim to strengthen player agency and build up the toolset of the player in an organized manner that never overwhelms. At the same time, we strive to slowly reveal the many and diverse opportunities that exist in New Eden beyond this story.

After concluding the mining adventure, the typical new player will have enjoyed an hour of story-driven content. At the same time, they’ll have gained some key fundamental skills to help them survive - and even thrive - in our grand Space Opera.
Share Your Feedback
The new mining adventure is now available Singularity! To explore the content as it’s intended, you’ll need to put yourself in the shoes of a new player by creating a new character and playing through the tutorial. To share your feedback, join the player discussion in the official thread on EVE Online forums.
Exploring The Future Of The NPE
We’re already hard at work on the next chapter that will follow on from this new mining adventure! Having laid the groundwork for players to understand basic combat, navigation, mining, looting, fitting and skills, we want to turn to the most requested content, according to new player surveys: Space Exploration!

We’ve spent quite some time asking our players what excites them most about EVE when they first begin playing. An exploration adventure is at the top of the list, and so pre-production work has already begun! Exciting high-level art, story and design elements are already in development, and we can’t wait to show you what we have in store to really launch our New Player Experience to the stars…

Mass test on Singularity on Thursday 24 February

Greetings Capsuleers,

Your attendance would be most welcome! All participants will receive a small reward of two million skill points on Singularity.

Community Beat for 18 February

Welcome to the Community Beat! The last edition was all about NPSI communities, player-run tournaments and baking bread among other topics. This edition also includes something about making dough, but you'll have to read on to see what it is!
Vertical Supremacy
We were blown away by this incredible EVE ship build that Reddit user pablofrae2 posted over on the EVE subreddit. It’s a full scale, fully operational Naglfar-class dreadnought which was created in the game Space Engineers.

Linked in the post was a video of a tour around the ship and another of it in action against some NPCs. Amazing stuff!
Charitable Capsuleers
EVE streaming community Rampage Inc headed up by CSM member Merkelchen and featuring fellow CSM members Innominate and Brisc Rubal are currently hosting their second major charity auction.

Their previous auction was a painting by Mrs Brisc Rubal which fetched US$3,100 with all proceeds going to St Jude Children’s Hospital.

The current auction is for another painting by Mrs Brisc of a bottle of “New Boot Goofin’” and currently sits at US$1,000 raised with proceeds set to go to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

The auction ends on Saturday at 03:00 UTC (22:00 US EST on Friday) so there’s still time to get your bids in and you can watch the results live on the Rampage Inc Twitch channel from 01:30 UTC.
EVE Montreal
Do you like bacon? Do you like internet spaceships? Well why don’t you go to EVE Montreal to eat bacon and talk about internet spaceships!

This family-friendly EVE gathering in eastern Canada is taking place on 26 March from 11am local time. To X up just follow the instructions on the poster below. There’s more information at the link and you can reach out to [email protected] if you still have unanswered questions!
Travellers Returns!
Back in January a new EVE video series called New Eden Travellers debuted. Brought to you by Signal Cartel and created by renowned capsuleer Katia Sae, we were very happy to see the second episode drop just a few days ago. Enjoy the latest instalment, Mysterious Oddities, in this excellent series!
Partner Spotlight – The Oz
New Eden’s economy is as vibrant and intricate as some real-world countries and savvy capsuleers who want to know what’s happening with it know to tune in to The Oz’s stream. His insights into EVE’s thriving markets might just give you the edge to finally double your ISK. There’s a Discord and Youtube channel, too!

He writes:

Why should you watch this?
 • If you are starting out on Eve and have a general interest in the economic simulation of Eve online (which is excellent if I may add) then station trading is a very effective and fairly low risk way to fund your omega subscription - please do yourself a favor and try the other parts of Eve as well
 • Veterans who have never focused on trading, may learn to invest some of that ISK laying around by applying everything they have learned in the game and get some income on the side
 • Or just hang out and chat and discuss the Eve market - even better

Let us know what you think and share some of your stories over on the EVE Online Forums.

See you in two weeks for the next Community Beat! o7
