Proving Grounds Combat - Whovian Style!

Collaborative Capsuleers,

Bringing the EVE Online x Doctor Who crossover to a dramatic end, the coming Abyssal Proving Grounds event focusses on 2v2 combat with some Whovian flair. It’s time to find an ally and ready yourself for clashes that promise to test both your dogfighting ability and the precision of your piloting skills.

Why will you need a steadier hand than ever to emerge victorious? Because throughout this special cruiser-focussed Abyssal Proving Grounds clash, the arena will be packed with high numbers of nexuses from The Interstellar Convergence event, with Convergent Accelerant and Decelerant objects littering the arena. Get too near one of those objects and they will explode, applying buffs or debuffs respectively. It’s a set-up that will ensure dramatic and tantalizing battles!

The permitted hulls for this event are the Omen, Caracal, Thorax, Stabber, Maller, Moa, Vexor, Rupture, Arbitrator, Blackbird, Celestis, and Bellicose.

There are some conditions of entry, of course, just to be sure that the combat is both balanced, and as action-packed as one of the Doctors’ own adventures..

The following arena effects will be in place throughout the event:
- Only pilots equipped with modules or implants with a meta level of 0 - meaning basic Tech 1 modules - will be allowed to enter
- Sensor dampeners, shield rechargers, shield power relays, shield flux coils, and core defence field purgers are banned
- Ships entering this round of Abyssal Proving Grounds combat must have a maximum of one local repair module fitted, either as shield or armor

Want to join in? Find a friend or Whovian companion, get your cruisers battle-ready, grab your Proving Filaments and head to the Proving Grounds between 11:00 UTC 28 January to 11:00 UTC 1 February. And as ever, the Proving Grounds leaderboards will allow you to keep up with Capsuleer performance... and how you and your ally fare compared to the rest of the pack.

Racing Across the Stars

On 9 March 2019, Katia Sae completed the monumental goal of being the first person to explore each and every reachable system in EVE Online: 5,201 systems across New Eden and another 2,604 in the mysterious expanse of Anoikis, for a combined 7,805 systems visited and documented - without losing a single ship in combat throughout the journey.

This goliath undertaking established Katia Sae as the first Capsuleer to achieve this venture across the stars, having begun the journey nearly a decade prior in December 2009.

However, the world of EVE is a ripe with opportunity for every Capsuleer roaming its vast universe – and while Katia has been set in stone (or steel, rather) as the first to visit every accessible star in the heavens, the first record for being the fastest to do so has now been set:

Capsuleer Henrique Arnolles now stands as the Guinness World Record holder for the fastest time taken to reach each of the 7,805 accessible star systems in EVE, accomplishing his goal in a blistering 224 days! Henrique set out on this adventure on 1 February 2021, touring every Empire system (High and Lowsec) by 6 February, visiting every Nullsec system by the 15th, and reaching his final target system in Anoikis (wormhole space) on 13 September – completing his race across the stars without losing a single ship!

You can listen to Henrique as he goes over his journey on Talking in Stations, joined by Katia Sae, CCP Paragon, CCP Goat, and CCP Swift:

While usurping such a record would certainly be a daunting aspiration, there's no shortage of opportunity for the Capsuleers of New Eden to achieve their goals, no matter the challenge. On our end, a new process has been established through which any future claims to this Guiness World Record can be rapidly verified, and we’ll be happy & ready to assist in claiming the new record, should another intrepid adventurer someday break it!

On your wings, the largest living world of science fiction flies onward; even after nearly two decades of a game history unlike any other, Capsuleers continue to reach new heights again and again. We at CCP are grateful to be able to provide & develop the vast world in which the incomparable EVE community thrives, and we enthusiastically look forward to seeing what feats and wonders you will accomplish as EVE approaches its 19th anniversary & beyond.

We can’t wait to see what you all do next – and we’ll see you in space!

Curious Capsuleers,

This event begins at 1100 UTC on 22 January, and runs for exactly 24 hours.

The ruleset is as follows:

- Only the Heron, Imicus, Magnate, and Probe exploration frigates can enter the arena
- Convergent Accelerant and Decelerant Nexuses will be present in large quantities throughout this special Proving Ground
- 100% bonus to turret damage

Community Beat for 21 January

o7 spacefriends!

Welcome once again to the Community Beat where we take a look at some of the things that have been going on in the wide world of EVE Online in recent weeks.

In the last Beat we took at look at a new video series from Signal Cartel, shared some news about EVE meetups and had a PvP recap!

This time around we’ll be looking at a very interesting third party tool, arts & (space)crafts and some community interactions with CCP members while adding a new section to highlight some cool EVE-related Discord communities.

Let’s get started!
EVE Pandora

Long before the Agency as we know it existed in New Eden there was a web-based tool also known as the Agency which served as a hub for player-created missions and campaigns. Today this tool is known as EVE Pandora.

Developed by DeT Resprox from T.R.I.A.D, its purpose was to create a mission system that could be used by individual capsuleers, corporations or alliances from all over New Eden.

From the EVE Pandora site: "Run missions and campaigns aimed at assisting alliances and corporations in EvE Online with our own standings system for each entity, much like running missions for NPC Corporations in EvE. The site essentially allows players to act in the manner of NPC agents by crafting missions and posting them for other capsuleers to complete."

If you’re looking for a little variety in your gameplay, or if you run an organization and would like to try a new and immersive way of presenting your members with content to tackle it might be of interest to you! Also check out a detailed forum post from DeT Resprox here.
CCP Rattati on Declarations of War

The long-running Declarations of War mercenary podcast played host to EVE Online’s Director of Product CCP Rattati and Community Developer CCP Swift this week.

Heading up the ecosystem team which has done extensive work on New Eden’s economy over the last two years, CCP Rattati stopped by DoW to have a chat about the past, the present and importantly the future of New Eden’s ecosystem along with several other burning issues with host Alekseyev Karrde.

Crafty Capsuleers

Navyblue over on Twitter posted this amazing video of Golem being made from scratch. No 3D printing here! Everything was handmade and the results are awesome! 👏

Partner Spotlight - Nth Dimensional
Nth Dimensional is one of the community’s most prolific streamers and video makers. Over on his Twitch channel he specializes in PvE content and uploads helpful guides and VODs of his streams on his Youtube channel as well.

After Twitch helpfully told CCP Paragon that Nth Dimensional was his most watched Twitch channel in 2021 (apart from the official CCP channel ofc!), a bromance was created and Nth reached out to Paragon to collaborate on a future stream.

The current Interstellar Convergence event seemed like the perfect time, and last week Nth and Paragon formed up like Voltron to exterminate the mysterious and deadly biomechanical menace together! Check out the VOD here or click the thumbnail below:

Discord Destinations

There’s no shortage of Discord communities that have sprung up around EVE Online. From public Discords hosted by individual corporations and alliances, to communities for EVE content creators, to servers for those that have an interest in particular in-game activities, there’s a Discord community (or probably several!) for you.

Roleplay is Primary is one such Discord and is a place for EVE Online players with an interest in the lore and roleplaying their characters to gather. However this Discord server is all out-of-character (OOC), so you can join to talk and learn about EVE lore and roleplay without having to RP from the get-go, which is great since it can sometimes be intimidating for people taking their first steps.

The Discord has different sections for all the major factions of New Eden, as well as channels to chat about the game more generally, share ship fittings and other non-EVE related sections, too. They’re a great community and this Discord server can act as a springboard for your next steps into the EVE Online roleplay communities. You can join the Discord server with this invite link.
