Second Beta Session Coming June 30th, 2023

Missed our first Tech Test? Well, you’re in luck! We will hold a second, bigger beta session on June 30th, 2023. This time, we want to give as many people as possible a chance to get a sneak peek at the game and really experience it for yourself.

We also want to use this opportunity to push our servers and see how our matchmaking holds up. To do so, we will need as many multiplayer rounds as possible, so single-player mode will be disabled during the session. Don’t worry, this is only for this beta! In the release version, single-player will be available again.

For the beta session, the game will be made available on Steam for a limited amount of time, from 7pm to 10pm (CEST). Players can apply through the Steam Playtest feature on our Store Page, you will then get an E-mail from Steam granting you access to the game. Our main means of communication before and during the upcoming beta session will be our Discord server, which is now open to anyone. You can join the Discord here.

The Unit Departments

Are you ready to take on your shift as incident commander and send your units to save lives? Let’s take a look at what those units are, what their purpose is and how they work together.

As incident commander, you will lead four departments: the fire department, the medical department, the police department and the technical department. Each of these departments consists of different units and unit vehicles, that will come in handy in different situations. At release, we will have a total of nine units, with more being added in future updates.
Fire Department
The fire department of course takes the main role in any emergency with fires, but also takes on a lot of responsibilities in the rescue of civilians. The fire department has three different types of units: the water tender, the firetruck and the ladder truck. The water tender is your go-to if you quickly need to respond to fires and is especially useful in hard-to-reach areas as water tenders have their own water tanks and don’t need access to a water supply. Firefighters in firetrucks can also be used to extinguish fires, but will need to be parked in a position with water access. Firefighters also take over rescue operations like freeing people trapped in vehicles, carrying people from inside burning buildings and helping people stuck in high places in cooperation with the ladder truck. They can also carry injured civilians from danger zones, to prevent them getting more severely injured. While the ladder trucks main purpose is to get firefighters to stuck civilians, its just as useful in extinguishing buildings on fire. In fact, when it comes to buildings, the ladder truck has even more extinguishing power than the other two.
Medical Department
The medical department encompasses doctors and paramedics. In a game all about saving lives, taking care of injured civilians and getting them to the hospital to be treated is of course essential. Depending on how badly injured a person is, they might need to be treated by a doctor before the paramedic can take over and transport the patient. However, lightly injured civilians can be directly treated by the paramedic and don’t need the attention of a doctor.
Police Department
The police department deals with all kinds of criminals. Police officers can take on close-range criminals with no problem, but for more heavily armed criminals you might want to send in your SWAT team. Some criminals even carry explosives and need to be dealt with ASAP to prevent an explosion setting everything in its vicinity on fire and injuring anyone nearby. Once criminals are dealt with and incapacitated, your police officers will escort them back to the precinct. Your police officers are also useful in dispersing bystanders, who might otherwise hinder the rescue operation by blocking access or distracting units and making their work less efficient.
Technical Department
The technical department plays a big role in helping other departments get to their objectives. Heavy cranes are used to lift heavy things like fallen trees or car wrecks which are often blocking the way to injured civilians. The engineer repairs anything from gas leakages to electrical failures. These issues often put your other units in danger if you don’t take care of them before sending your units in. Engineers are also responsible for safely defusing bombs, you’ll sometimes need two of them working together to get the bomb defused in time.
Departments working hand in hand
Different shifts will require different units. In some shifts you may encounter a bunch of criminals, in others there are mainly fires. Overall, the most important thing is to have all your units work together, make sure you clear the most pressing issues first and to remain on top of the chaos.

The world of EMERGENCY is always evolving.

What is the new EMERGENCY?

[h5]Today we would like to tell you a little more about EMERGENCY and how it differs from our previous titles in the series from a gameplay perspective. Let’s see what’s new![/h5]
Co-op fun with friends
EMERGENCY is first and foremost a co-op RTS. This means that our main focus is creating a multiplayer game that’s fun, fast and challenging. The game is played in short rounds (“shifts”) which usually last between 15 and 30 minutes. Up to four people, either from pre-existing groups of friends or put together through matchmaking, join together to solve all objectives before time runs out or the chaos gets too high.
Your shift as incident commander
Choose your shift across three brand-new maps, each with their own unique challenges. Time of day and weather conditions like rain, fog, heat and storms add further excitement. During your shifts, all kinds of emergencies will pop up, ranging from small car crashes to hostage situations to huge fires – you’ll never know what to expect. Depending on the number of players and the difficulty level, you’ll end up with several emergencies at a time, in which case you need to act fast to clear objectives and resolve emergencies to prevent the chaos meter from rising. The chaos meter, along with the timer, will determine your success or failure.
Introducing Upgrade Cards
Successfully completing a shift earns you rewards. One of those rewards are the Upgrade Cards. Upgrade Cards can improve your units and unit vehicles or unlock new abilities. There are different kinds of Upgrade Cards for all the departments. You will also get some experience points and coins, which you can use to level up your Upgrade Cards. By collecting and levelling your cards you can be a specialized expert in your favourite departments or become the trusted all-rounder, able to carry any round. More details about Upgrade Cards will follow in a future post, so keep your eyes open!
Fast gameplay
There are several mechanics we’ve adjusted to best suit the faster gameplay. For more intuitive controls, we chose to use fixed parking positions, where you can freely place your units. This enabled us to add other gameplay elements like water management and danger zones, which make the game even more challenging. Overall, the theme for this new game is “easy to learn, hard to master”.

Although we’re going down a different path than the previous PC titles, with the co-op gameplay bringing new challenges, we believe EMERGENCY will be able to win over old and new fans alike.
