So, it's April 1, and Goat Simulator developer

BTS of Goat Simulator: The Card Game

As some of you might know, we’re collaborating with MOOD Publishing to create the most chaotic physical card game the world has ever seen. We thought it would be fun for you to see some progress pictures from the early stages of creating the game, and also get some lore from one of the co-founders of MOOD Publishing.

"I’m pretty sure that Rasmus and I first talked about making a fast, wacky card game based on Goat Simulator over a casual coffee chat. I mean, who doesn’t want to play a game about goats?! Something quick to set up, fun for the whole family, fast-paced, chaotic, and—of course—completely ridiculous.
Later that same day, I stepped into a meeting, and when I came back, Rasmus was like, “Hey, I have an idea for the Goat Sim card game.
He pitched this concept where you lay down goats, gear them up with the most absurd equipment possible, and create total havoc to score points. That very moment, we threw together a quick prototype, which—surprisingly—became the foundation of the entire game."

"Then the playtesting madness began. We played a lot. After team breakfasts on Fridays, after lunch—every single day in the beginning. It wasn’t just fun; it sparked new ideas from the whole MOOD team. The golden rule was simple: If we immediately wanted to play again after finishing a round, we were on the right track.

When we showed the game to Sebastian from Coffee Stain North (big shoutout!), he had great feedback—not just for gameplay but also for making it feel even more like Goat Simulator. That’s when we realized—these goats weren’t just getting gear; they were getting dressed up. Suddenly, the gear wasn’t just a gameplay mechanic but a hilarious visual gimmick. I mean, who doesn’t want to see a goat in stilettos, a dino suit, and a traffic cone?"

"From there, the chaos kept escalating. In a later play session with Coffee Stain North, we replaced the goat-shaped dice with something even better—a plushie goat. It just made perfect sense! Not only did it capture the ragdoll physics of the game, but it also added a brilliant, hands-on gameplay twist.

Honestly, this has been one of the most fun projects to be part of—from that first coffee chat to the relentless playtesting with the MOOD team, brainstorming with Coffee Stain North, designing the plushie, receiving all sorts of sample goats from the factory, and (very scientifically) spending workdays throwing plushie goats to determine the ultimate throwable goat.
And now, as we play with the final prototype before heading into production, we really can’t wait for you to try it!"
