Developer Insights - Bounty Battle Arenas

Hey everyone,

Today we're sharing more insight from the development team behind Bounty Battle!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

This week Dark Screen Games developer, Francois talks a little about the fighting arenas in Bounty Battle, the inspirations and designs.

"As in all other games of the genre, you can choose your battle arena when the game mode allows it. These are 16 arenas at launch, with 4 which have alternative versions. It is possible that in the long term each hero, whether or not they end up with their own fighting arena, will be referenced in iconic areas, with mentions of each universe."

Darkest Dungeon's Crusader standing vigil over his arena

"For each fighting arena it was important to stick to a special atmosphere. We also have plans for future DLC arenas with events, platforms or other creatures that could potentially interact with our heroes! Also, each of these arenas would possibly have alternative versions... "

Developer Insight - Bounty Points

Hey everyone,

Today we're sharing more insight from the development team behind Bounty Battle!

Even if in practise the game is closer to a traditional fighter: (life, energy and resources bar,) if I’m being honest, I liked the idea of being able to make an 'Ultimate Fighter' for the indie world. But the "brawler" system which consists of modifying power and/ or gravity according to a % did not please me more than that. I hated the idea of a copied/ pasted system that brought nothing new or personal to Bounty Battle’s core gameplay mechanics.

I do not remember exactly how I came up with the idea of adding a bonus to the head of an opponent, but that added some nice background to the fighters, and also allowed us visually to find out who was the party leader. Then of course, that led me to wonder "what to do with this bonus?". Well, yes, this resource could replace energy and everything could have worked as bounty points. It's still a possibility that I don't rule out in a possible DLC or another version of the game, but in the end another idea took over, and then the decision was made to add an element of gameplay that is "the minions". Yes, this idea gave just as much added background to the characters, bringing with it an element of each character’s own universe, but also gave legitimacy to the Bounty Points system.

Other mechanisms have (and will still) follow from this point system in order to allow for more strategic confrontations. The minions quickly rebalance certain characters, allowing players a complete gameplay experience. Even if the minions are in the background and not touchable, they can directly interact with and against the opponents.

Bounty Battle's Minion Musings (Part 5)

Hi there, and welcome to Minion Musings (Part 5), where each week we'll introduce you to some of the minions that will be able to help you in the Ultimate Indie Brawler, Bounty Battle!

Pankapu can spawn Chii, a small floating spider that will actively support Pankapu by slowing down opponents, allowing you to take your tiiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmeeee...

The Unslain can summon a new sword, this floating sword reinforcement will be useful in due time. What fighter would turn down extra weapons?

Agent of Death can cause Death to appear itself, so watch out for what is coming down from the sky!

Trace can summon a very strange creature, be warned if it attacks you, it can make you freeze on the spot!

The Crusader can create a flaming, flying skull, which will follow them everywhere, this minion will curse your opponents as soon as it can...that doesn't sound fun!
