Play the Demo for Backbone's Prequel "Tails" Now

Hello Detectives!

After teasing our next project last year, we have now officially announced our upcoming prequel to Backbone!

Tails: The Backbone Preludes shares a lot of Backbone’s DNA, but with a new approach to point of view, choice and consequence, and storytelling as a whole. Since the announcement, we’ve had a chance to share a few chapters of the game at PAX West, introducing both old friends and new fans to the formative backstories of Howard, Clarissa, Renee, and newcomer Eli. We were so thrilled to see people dig into these new stories that we couldn’t just leave it there, so the demo is now available to all, as we anxiously look ahead to release early next year.

If you’d like to learn a bit more about what’s new in Tails: The Backbone Preludes, here’s a quick Q&A about what to expect!

What similarities and differences are there between Tails and Backbone?
Our team has made every effort to capture the essence of Backbone, but also to add even more of the things we always wanted to: more player agency in the way our characters develop, more mechanical or dialogue puzzles, and more varied emotions for you to feel as you play.

How does “choice” factor into Tails?
A new approach to dialogue gives a player a more personalized experience, as you select the way the main characters approach their lives, which in turn, changes the future interactions in the game. With over 200,000 words, double the size of Backbone, the branching dialogue will be a tool of success and failure for you, so you must carefully choose what you choose to do and say.

Is there more to the game than just storytelling and conversations?
Dialogue-based puzzles will challenge you to convince a person whether you are right or wrong. From meditative tasks to challenging little mysteries, your paws would be happy and brain satisfied. Plus, Howard’s photo obsession is proven to be a pleasing hobby, even if he’s not going to pursue it in his future.

We sincerely hope you enjoy the demo, and we can't wait to hear your thoughts!
