After a temporary hiatus, we are back and in business with an exciting new update for you. Furious Seas is going Open World! Explore a large and expansive map, with new shops and features in our open world beta; instructions on how to access the beta posted below. With plans in store for hidden treasures, powerful new bosses, side missions, and more, be sure to stay tuned for our future updates!

Accessing the Open-World Beta

On The Furious Seas Page, Go to Settings > Properties



Under the Beta tab, Enter the following code to unlock the Press Preview branch:

We are excited to bring you an open-world update. Enjoy the freedom of sailing from island to island on an expansive new map. Travel to different campaign missions, hunt down enemy ships, and plunder booty! Featuring:
  • 25 sq/km of open seas
  • 5 major island hubs:
    1. Yellowfin Island,
    2. Harpies Landing,
    3. Hangman’s Plateau,
    4. The Vanishing Isles,

Performance Update


Full Sail Ahead!

We're back and faster than ever after docking for a game engine and performance upgrade. Thanks to all the VR pirates who eagerly awaited on standby for us to set out to sea once again. Treasure awaits ye!

New Additions
  • Added in foam trails behind ships.


Graphics Settings
  • Access through Pause Menu > Settings > Graphics
  • Lowering quality options will improve frame rate.
  • Added MSAA options.
  • Added Bloom Quality options.
  • Added Sail Animation options.
  • Added Water Reflections option.


Improvements
  • Up to 50% performance improvement due optimizations that include reductions to memory and CPU usage.
  • Unity Engine version upgrade.
  • Enhanced ‘X-Ray’ effect rendering.
  • Significant lighting system optimizations.
  • Task threading system to increase performance.
  • Reduction of loading stalls during gameplay.


Bug Fixes
  • Fixes for rendering distant islands.

JOIN IN PROGRESS PATCH



JOIN IN PROGRESS PATCH


Meet new pirates to sail the Furious Seas with! We’ve added in the ability to join a multiplayer session that’s already in progress so you can hop in & out of sessions. Leave a session running and see who joins!

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be docking in port for a Unity version upgrade! This is necessary to natively support Oculus and other platforms in the future. It also allows us to keep pursuing more performance upgrades. While the process is a lengthy one, it will be well worth it in the long run.

Be sure to join our Discord server to stay up to date on the latest announcements!


NEW ADDITIONS
  • Game now supports Simplified Chinese as a language option. With this system now in place, expect more languages soon!
  • MULTIPLAYER - Players can now join online matches that are already in progress up to 1 minute before the end of the game.


ADJUSTMENTS
  • UI resolution has been increased to improve legibility of text.
  • SURVIVAL MODE - Players can no longer choose Invulnerable as a difficulty setting.
  • SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN - Default score of 500 points now awarded on completion of mission.


BUG FIXES
  • Fixed an occasional memory leak when ships are deleted
  • High Score stamp no longer appears when high score has not been set.
  • SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN - Player health no longer resets when difficulty level is changed mid mission

Arr Matey's, we’ve added voice chat to the multiplayer alpha build. Make the most of it with your best pirate jokes and sea shanties!

What’s a pirate’s favorite letter?
P! Because it’s an Arrr but it’s missin’ a leg.



Adjustments - Feb 28, 2019
  • Multiplayer - Players can now press any button to skip the end of sessions score screen.


Bug Fixes - Feb 28, 2019
  • Alt-tabbing no longer causes the game to crash
  • Levels will now clear correctly at the end of a session.
  • Singleplayer Campaign - Dying on Captain Ruin level will no longer stall the game.
  • Singleplayer Campaign - Boss ships will no longer occasionally stop responding to player.
  • Multiplayer - Pause menu will now actually pause the game after leaving


Adjustments - Feb 22, 2019


  • Multiplayer - Tutorial cards now shown to players who choose Multiplayer on first run of game.
  • Multiplayer - Reward posters no longer show when Friendly Fire is enabled.
  • Singleplayer Campaign - Mission Confirmation screen has been updated.




Bug Fixes - Feb 22, 2019
  • Multiplayer - Room will now show up in the Lobby when the session ends.
  • Multiplayer - Non-host players will now show as "Not Ready" on Room Setup screen when the previous session ends.
  • Multiplayer - Players can now rejoin the same room if they leave when the previous session ends.
  • Multiplayer - Final score can now be skipped by pressing any button.
  • Singleplayer Campaign - Boss boat will now continue to attack player after player respawn.
  • Singleplayer Campaign - Difficulty settings in Misson Confirmation screen should now apply to gameplay.



Adjustments - Feb 20, 2019
  • Multiplayer is now accessible at the start of the game, as well as on the map.
  • Difficulty settings for Singleplayer moved to confirmation screen after poster pick up.
  • Added 30 minute session duration as an option.
  • Disable voice chat now mutes both player mic and other player's voices.
  • On end of a multiplayer session, players will now go back to the Room Setup menu.
  • Added bloom to explosions.



Bug Fixes - Feb 20, 2019
  • Multiplayer Room Setup will no longer get stuck when selecting 5 minute duration.



New Additions - Feb 17,2019
  • VOICE CHAT - Built in voice chat to talk with your friends and terrify your foes in multiplayer.


Adjustments - Feb 17,2019
  • Network now has a timeout when trying to connect to a server.
  • Players now respawn at random locations in Multiplayer.
  • Player nameplates now more visible at far distances.

☠️ MULTIPLAYER ALPHA UPDATE ☠️


You asked for it, we’re testing it! Sail the furious seas and destroy your enemies… now with friends! Multiplayer has been *widely* requested by the community and we want your feedback on our first pass.




Grab the map off the skeleton in the Island Hub, choose multiplayer and join a friend’s room to play Survival Mode together!

New Additions
  • MULTIPLAYER ALPHA - Either work together and split the booty, or sink your friend to win it all.
  • HAPTICS - Feel the power of cannon fire! Now supporting the bHaptics Tactot Vest.


Adjustments
  • Survival Mode and Campaign Mode Score posters have new text colors and spacing to improve readability.
  • Updated opening story sequence to allow for better dramatic timing.
  • During player death, ships now have an onboard explosion and darkened red fog effect.



Bug Fixes
  • Opening tutorial missions score now properly saving on repeat playthroughs.
  • AI ships no longer attempt to steer through other ships while pathfinding.
