[h2]We've got some new additions to the battlefield environment from artist Sergey Averkin. Check out this video showing downed aircraft wrecks. These additions to the battlefield environment will help illustrate the chaos and violence inherent in the Burden of Command.[/h2]

[h2]The end of the War in Europe is celebrated on May 8th in the West (known as VE Day) and on May 9th by the Eastern Allies (known as Victory Day).



So we would like to wish a happy Victory Day to our Eastern friends.

Whichever day we observe, it meant that the war in Europe was finally over. After six years of unbelievable suffering, peace was finally at hand. Though it would be another three months of hell before hostilities ended in the Pacific.

As always, we wish you all happiness, health, prosperity, and peace.

[h2]Seventy-Five years ago today, Sergeant Robert Mathis had just heard that the War in Europe was over. So had the rest of the world.



He marked the occasion by sitting down to write a letter home.

This is that letter:


It reads,
"May 8, 1945
Germany

Dear Sis,

I'm trying to catch up on some of my writing tonight, so don't bawl me out for writing such a short letter. It's been such a long time since I've wrote to anyone, I guess you all have been worried about me.

Well, as you know Sis, the war in Europe is over. I for one am very happy. I still don't know anything about coming home though. I can sweat it out pretty good now that I don't have to live in a foxhole.

I'll close for now, but I'll be writing again soon. I'm sending you a picture of me in this letter. Tell Bill to be ready for that celebration I've been waiting for when I come home.

P.S. Tell Bill if I have to count on the points system to get me home, I won't even have enough to get to Paris.

Sergeant Mathis was an artilleryman in the 8th Infantry Division. He served in every campaign from Normandy the end of the War.
He was also my grandfather.
I'm very proud to be his grandson.

As development progresses on Burden of Command, we are occasionally highlighting some of the characters who will be joining the fight. We've previously introduced Lt. Thompson, Lt. Wilson, and Capt. Lamb.

Now meet First Sgt. Grant, one of the guys who never meant to be here. Sgt. Grant joined the Army in peacetime and intended to be there for life. But he never expected to fight in a war, but now he's here risking everything for his men.

And as an added bonus, Sgt. Grant's character will be voiced by veteran actor Shane Taylor, who portrayed Doc Roe in Band of Brothers!
