Devlog #23: Batteries Release

Hello Spacers! There are barely 7 days left before NEBULOUS: Fleet Command launches into Early Access and we can't even describe how excited we are for all of you to get your hands on it. There were a lot of final tasks that needed to be completed before the game was ready to go, and we've been sprinting to the finish line these last few months.

Today we're posting the final devlog before we release, which covers many of the major changes that occurred over the course of the 31 pre-alpha patches since December. There's a lot to cover, so we hope you'll enjoy the insight into the mountain of final tweaks and polishing that it takes to get a new indie game out the door.

This is our longest devlog ever and there's far too much to recount in this space, so please enjoy the video.

If you want to see what will be coming next for the game after release, you can check out our Public Roadmap.

Devlog #21: Full Steam

Hello Spacers! It's been a busy month working on integrating NEBULOUS more fully with Steam, as well as getting our long-planned modding support up and running. The game now takes advantage of many of the great features offered by the Steam platform, such as allowing players to join games via the friends list, rich presence, achievements, and sharing fleets, ships, and mods via the Workshop.

Modding has always had a special place in our hearts, and it was very important that we support modding before entering Early Access in the next few months. Fortunately, all of the architectural decisions that were made before the game had even been built for the first time were made with the long road to modding in mind. Take a look at our official Modding Guide to learn what it takes to get your own content into the game.

The major changes this month are:
  • Mod Support - Developed facilities for loading additional asset bundles and code DLLs into the game, to allow users to add their own content and expand the game however they want. Almost anything that the developers could add can now be added by modders.
  • Workshop Support - Players can now upload their fleets, ship templates, and mods to the workshop for other players to use.
  • Achievements - Added 19 achievements for players to earn.
  • Graphics Optimization - Added level-of-detail meshes for all hulls and exterior modules, greatly improving graphics performance when lots of ships are visible at the same time.
  • Skyboxes - Say goodbye to the ugly placeholder skybox. We've added three hand-painted space skyboxes to make the maps more interesting.
  • Hull Cost Rebalance - Modified the costs of all hulls so they take up a more significant percentage of the cost of a fully fitted ship.

Devlog #20: Road to Release

Hello Spacers! With the team lead's return from deployment, NEBULOUS is now all-in for our release to Early Access in Q1 2022. While we have a number of requirements left to work out before we push to EA (you can see what exactly over at our public roadmap), the core gameplay is looking and feeling great.

Because we're getting so close to release, we're also going to start updating the steam community page more regularly, so make sure to keep an eye on this space for details as we near EA.

In the meantime, check out the latest devlog detailing some of the changes over the game's downtime and our current focus to release NEBULOUS!

We also have an active community over at the Eridanus Industries Discord! Come join us and other fans to see more "real-time" development.

And, if you'd like to support development as we near Early Access, consider pledging to our Patreon in order to get pre-alpha access and help shape the game.

See you in the battlespace.
