Patch 0.221.4 (Public Test)

⚠️ Note: This update is for the Public Test branch of Valheim only, and may therefore be unstable!

Prior to launching this update to the Default version of the game, we want to have a chance to discover bugs and fine-tune the balancing to ensure the best game experience.

  • ACCESS: Right-click Valheim in your Steam library, then select ‘Properties’. In the new window, select ‘Betas’ and type in the code “yesimadebackups”. The Public Test branch should now be available for you to select. The PTB FAQ can be found here.

  • FEEDBACK: Please leave any feedback in the “#valheim-public-test” channel in our Discord or through the form on our website.

Please remember to be considerate towards players who are not participating in the Public Test, as some may prefer to avoid spoilers. As indicated by the access code, please ensure to create backups of your save files before playing.

We hope you've been enjoying the Call to Arms update so far! We've gotten some great feedback, so now we have a long list of tweaks and fixes that should make the update both more stable and more enjoyable. This includes some fixes to wooden weapons, as well as tweaks to adrenaline and the new creatures. Fight well!

Fixes & Improvements:
* Battle Brother has remembered his real name: T.W.I.G.
* Bottled Tar Blob now has the correct model when being thrown
* Frost Blob is now weak against fire and very resistant against frost
* The Frost Blob Bomb now requires a Drake trophy instead of a Stone Golem trophy
* Made tweaks to make knives better for combat in slopes
* Wooden Greatsword is now repairable at the workbench
* Wooden weapons now have more appropriate block power
* Wooden Atgeirs are now a bit more rare to find
* Wooden Sword and Wooden Greatsword now sound like they’re made of wood
* Using mage staffs directly after dodging no longer grants abnormal amount of adrenaline
* Staff of Embers and Staff of Fracturing now only grant adrenaline on use instead of on hit
* Staff of Frost projectiles now grant 1 Adrenaline per hit instead of 2 per hit
* Area attacks (made by sledges, for example) now grant adrenaline
* Adrenaline granted when staggering enemies is now reduced from 5 to 3
* Killing Seeker Broods now grants less adrenaline than before
* Skull Splittur now requires Black Forge level 1 instead of level 3 to be crafted
* Skull Splittur now emits a bit of light, matching other similar weapons
* Blackmetal Battleaxe and Skull Splittur are now held more properly by the player character
* Fragrant Bundle, Fresh Seaweed and Thistle can now be placed flat on horizontal item stands (reminder: shift + E to change rotation on item stands)
* Bearskin Rug no longer flickers
* Bears and Viles now take 4 seconds to disappear after death instead of 8 seconds
* Bears and Viles should no longer get stuck behind trees and boulders as much
* Bears are now able to swim
* Viles now have a chance to drop Rotten Meat (in addition to Bear Meat)
* Viles are now part of the Plains Monster faction instead of the Undead faction
* Trinkets are now crafted using the Forge instead of the Workbench. Trinkets available in the Mistlands and Ashlands are now crafted in the Black Forge
* Both equipped the Trinket and equipped the Utility Item are now visible on the character at the same time
* You can no longer dodge while overencumbered
* Stairs of the Stone Portal should now be climbable
* Carvings on Fader sacrificial stone now have more emission to match other sacrificial stones
* Cores are no longer placed in hot bar when picked up, and are still able to be placed on item stands
* Looking at a beehive or an archery target while another player disconnects from the server no longer causes the game to crash
* Fighting Yagluth no longer makes the game crash on Xbox
* There’s no longer Null Reference Exceptions when some projectiles hit the Shield Generator
* Sledges once again are able to hit enemies through fractured mine rocks
* Fixed an issue where T.W.I.G. could be deconstructed multiple times in multiplayer
* Fix a bug that caused the GUI to not update matchmaking data immediately when adding a server from join code
* Fixed some spelling issues
* Updated localisation

[p]Greetings vikings![/p][p][/p][p]We’re back after a bit of a summer break, and we’ve got lots of things going on![/p][p][/p][p]To start with, as you may have already noticed, we’re at Gamescom to present the latest update, Call to Arms. It’s available on the Public Test Branch right now for everyone who wishes to try it out! [/p][p]On site in Cologne we have our Iron Gate team members Robin, Andreas and Emilia, and while they might be a bit busy doing some interviews, they’re happy to stop and chat if you want to say hi to them.
[/p][p]But Gamescom isn’t the only event we’ll be attending; in a month we will also have a booth at Tokyo Game Show! If you’ll be attending, please come say hi! And even if you won’t be in Tokyo – keep an eye out, because we’ll be having an exciting announcement to make for that event as well.
[/p][p]Since there’s plenty of other things to focus on right now, we’ll be having a bit of a break from the Hervor episodes. We can promise that her voyage will continue, but first you will have to wonder about her fate a little longer.[/p][p][/p][p]With that said though, we don’t want to leave you entirely without a Deep North teaser for this month. If at first you don’t succeed, try again!

Fortunately there are resources at your disposal in order to improve yourself – whether that be wooden weapons for sparring with your comrades, or a built structure to hone your fighting skills against.

In our Call to Arms, you can also find a brand new type of item in the form of trinkets, which will help you in the heat of battle. And as there are some new dangerous foes around, you might find that you very much need them…

New Mechanics:
* Trinkets: Equip these items to gain adrenaline during battle, and thus unlock temporary perks.
* Adrenaline: You gain adrenaline by hitting enemies, triggering a Forsaken Power, using certain magic attacks, as well as performing Perfect Blocks and Perfect Dodge Rolls. When the bar is full, you get an adrenaline surge which gives you a temporary perk designated by your equipped Trinket. Adrenaline will fade when you are not in active combat, and you will only gain adrenaline as long as you have a Trinket equipped.
* Wooden Weapons: By using wooden weapons you can practice combat against your friends without hurting each other.
* New skill: Perfect Dodge Roll (Dodge an attack that would have caused you damage and get a % of stamina back)

Rebalanced Forsaken Powers:
* Eikthyr: 60% reduced stamina usage for running, jumping, and swimming
* The Elder: 60% Chopping and Mining damage increase, 30% health regeneration increase
* Bonemass: 25% resistance VS pierce, slash, and blunt damage, 100% reduced block stamina usage, 5 stamina on return per block
* Moder: Always tailwind, 300 increased carry weight, 10% increased movement speed, 50% frost resistance
* Yagluth: 50% Lightning resistance, 25+ Farm skill, 10% increased damage
* The Queen: 100% increased Eitr regeneration., 100% reduced sneak cost, 50% poison resistance

* Fixed a bug that caused community servers to no longer be advertised in the community list on non-Steam platforms.
* Fixed UGC text not being filtered properly when the author is a Mac App Store user who wasn’t logged into Game Center at the time of writing.
* Fixed log spam when nearby or viewing hover text for signs, tamed animals and portals without text/name/tag.
* Fixed a bug that showed “TEXT HIDDEN, CHECK UGC SETTINGS” for UGC written by muted players - now there’s separate text for that case.
* Fixed a bug that caused the shield generator to not take damage if it was network owned by a different client than whatever dealt damage to it.
* Fixed join code in pause menu not being hidden when toggling off HUD visibility.
* Fixed join code copy to clipboard functionality.
* Improved how block list is synchronized between local storage and cloud storage.
* Fixed input loss in UI at low frame rates.
* Fixed select button not working properly when using an Xbox One Controller on Mac.
* Fixed a bug that allowed tab navigation when various popups in the world and server selection menus were open.
* Added the option in the settings menu to enable the developer console. The command line argument “-console” overrides the setting.
* Fixed a bug that caused integers with a value of zero to be reset to their default value when loading a world save file.
* Fixed a bug that made it possible to copy the join code with gamepad even when there was none.
* Modded text in start menu has been moved.

Server List Improvements:
* Rewrote the server list to reduce redundancies and improve performance, scalability, reliability and server retrieval speed.
* Improved retrieval speed of community servers via the PlayFab backend.
* Added a new “refreshing” icon displayed instead of the “?” icon when refreshing servers. The “?” icon has been repurposed for servers whose matchmaking data can’t be retrieved but the server may be online.
* The community server list is now no longer retrieved in the background unless the “friends” or “community” tab has been visited. This mitigates an issue for some Steam users that caused retrieval of the community server list via the Steam backend to overload their network.
* Fixed a bug that caused retrieval of matchmaking data via PlayFab in the server list to hit the rate limit.
* Fixed a bug where typing R in the “filter” box refreshed the server list.
* (For modders) The player limit displayed in the server list is no longer hard coded.

Steam Only:
* Fixed some issues with the Steam profile pictures displayed in-game. The image no longer looks washed out and now generates mipmaps to reduce aliasing at lower resolutions.
* Matchmaking data for servers on the Steam backend can now be properly retrieved via the Steam backend. This improves server retrieval speed for servers on the Steam backend in the favorite and recent lists.

Xbox Only:
* If the user has left a server as a result of entering suspend mode, show a notification when resuming from suspend mode.
* The developer console is now disabled by default, and can instead be enabled via the new gameplay setting.
* Massively improved retrieval speed of the friends server list.

In case you’ve missed it, that also means that you’re able to build the Maypole and craft the Midsummer Crown in Valheim – you’ll be able to do so for the rest of June and through the first week of July, so there’s plenty of time still to enjoy the time of the summer solstice.[/p][p][/p][p]There’ll be no warm summer weather in the Deep North though! Last time we saw Hervor Bloodtooth, she got attacked by an Elaking as she was exploring a large hall. And it appears she has been taken deep below ground…[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p][/p][p]You may have guessed it already, but that’s your first sneak peek of a Deep North dungeon! We call them Winding Tunnels, and they’re one of many things that we have been working on behind the scenes which we hope you’re excited to explore in the future. We will, as usual, give you a still image as well, but after that we’ll be leaving Hervor to her fate for a while. How do you think she will fare?[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Last month we mentioned that we’re also working on an update which focuses on improving the combat mechanics. We want to share another teaser for that update, in the form of an archery target – because even with improved mechanics you might still want an easy way to practice your own skills! The target will also let you know how close to the center you managed to shoot, and you will be able to retrieve your arrows or bolts once you’re done practicing.[/p][p]
