Today, we're diving into the world of agriculture in Farm Folks, surrounded by breathtaking nature and a serene environment that makes it hard not to dream of settling down for good. So, farmers, get ready to roll up your sleeves and dive in.




In Farm Folks, we plan to introduce over 100 types of vegetables, fruits, berries, and grains, from peppers to tomatoes, eggplants to apples, and wheat to strawberries - offering an array of choices for every green thumb.





While venturing through the world, watch for those hidden gems of nature. Occasionally, you'll discover plants ripe for collection. Take these treasures back to the Botanical Station, where the real magic happens. Here, you can blend species to birth something novel or gently persuade seeds to reveal themselves.

The Botanical Station is much more than a garden-variety lab; it's a place where green dreams come to life through breeding and seed extraction. Sometimes, it takes a little bit of mystery ingredients and a healthy dose of experimentation to unearth plants that are anything but ordinary.

Note on Discovery: Some rare animals, fish, and crops can only be found during specific seasons or times of day. For instance, a Twilight Feathered Fox appears in a misty swamp during spring mornings, while the elusive Glowing Jellyhorn Deer might be spotted high in the mountains.



Consider the Botanical Station your specialized crafting table for plants and crops on the farm. It’s a unique hub where the rarest of plants, those unseen in the wild or unavailable from NPCs, can be brought to life through your gardening skills. These special plants and crops await your discovery, promising to enrich your farm with diversity and intrigue. Are you ready to delve into the art of plant cultivation and uncover the secrets of the Botanical Station?

To ensure your farm thrives, it's crucial to master watering, lighting, temperature, and timing.


Proper watering is foundational, while the right balance of light and temperature, especially through the use of greenhouses, enhances plant growth. Greenhouses not only regulate temperature but can also accommodate artificial lighting, ensuring optimal photosynthesis conditions regardless of natural light levels.



Additionally, planting your crops at the correct season is vital for maximum growth and yield.

Let's first dive into watering your crops effectively. We will also briefly cover managing light and temperature in greenhouses and the importance of seasonal planting, with deeper insights to follow in future blogs.

Watering gun is a tool that you carry with you around the Farm Folks. It designed to give you flexibility and efficiency in a treatment of your green friends crops. How it works you might ask?



Water gun itself attaches to a water containers which can be crafted out of glass. Glass can be produced by smelting mined quarts in a smelter. You can carry multiple water bottles in inventory at the same time and even share them with your friends by request, cool ha?

You can fill water containers only with fresh water; ocean water won't suffice. But worry not—there are plenty of freshwater bodies around the world for you to use. And if that still sounds like a hassle, well, you can always build a water well close to where you need it, which extracts water from the ground and can be powered by the wind or electricity.



The watering process in our game is super satisfying; just whip out your water gun and start drenching your crops. If you've been paying attention, you'll notice we're all about the details. As you water, you'll actually see the soil getting wet—a subtle yet immersive touch.

After giving your plants a thorough soaking, they'll need some time to grow. You might find yourself watering them multiple times throughout their growth cycle to ensure they flourish. Some plants must be watered daily, and some can go longer without water.





While your crops are sprouting, there's no shortage of activities to keep you busy. Whether it's optimizing your farm by enhancing animal habitats, fine-tuning the logistics for your automated productions, or exploring the vast open world to meet new characters and uncover their stories, there's always something to do, making every moment on the farm filled with potential discoveries.

As we've hinted, Farm Folks will overflow with familiar crops, but what's the fun without a dash of whimsy? We're planning to introduce quite a few exotic ones to spice things up. Imagine cultivating burger plants, nurturing a bacon tree, harvesting devil's lettuce, or picking curious eyeball fruit.

By mixing plants at breeding stations, you can sometimes obtain pretty unique specimens, such as purple corn or yellow eggplants. Mixed crops will inherit their colors and produce truly unique variations. Since it's procedural, you can expect hundreds of variations driven by your imagination. We will talk about this more soon.



So much bounty, yet who's it all for? There's only so much one can feast on. As many of you might have already discovered, your principal mission in the game is to support the towns of Farm Folks with their varied production needs.

From modest to colossal requests, you'll craft and wield tools to meet these demands. Take, for instance, aiding Ricardo by delivering 500 bags of flour and 2000 sesame seeds to satisfy his bakery's insatiable appetite.



Or secure a steady stream of supplies for Micha's seed shop to truly capture her heart. This isn't just farming; it's about weaving yourself into the fabric of community life, one fulfilled order at a time.



Before we dive deeper, let's take a moment to appreciate our latest addition to your crop options - the sunflower. Yes, this stunning bloom adds a bright touch to any farm. Imagine a whole field filled with these radiant flowers. Well, you don't have to imagine – we've made it a reality, and you can check it out below.

In Farm Folks, every crop is more than just a pretty sight; they're valuable contributors to your farm's economy. With a strong focus on automation, we aim to create a seamless connection between all aspects of farming. This interconnectedness means that products from your crops, like sunflower seeds, can be processed further. Take these seeds to a Mixer to extract oil, which can then be used in producing smaller products in an Oven or in more complex recipes with our grandest machine, the Cooker.

Inspired by games like Factorio and Satisfactory, we wanted to bring the automation concept into Farm Folks to add something new to the farming and life simulation genre. But we also wanted to go in a different direction with the look and feel of the game. Our game is set in a near future where clean energy is the norm, featuring Solar Punk aesthetics that are all about being eco-friendly and visually stunning. We're avoiding the industrial, grey, and smoky environment typical of heavy machinery games. Instead, we're focusing on integrating green-energy-powered machines into the beautiful world of Farm Folks in a way that feels natural and enhances the environment, giving you the freedom to make your farm both high-tech and harmonious with nature.

Your crops will be affected by the real-time weather system in the Farm Folks. Of course, crops will receive water from the rain or fog. Our crops understand how much light they're getting, whether it's because of cloudy weather or because you decided to plant something that is under the shade all the time. Insufficient light can delay ripening or cause plants to wither.

Seasons (Work in Progress)

Temperatures will affect not only your character but also your crops. Just as you can wear warmer clothes, plants will need substantial solutions to survive harsh winters. It will be crucial to plant and harvest your crops at the right time to avoid damage to your yield.

Another thing that sets us apart is the freedom to plant our crops wherever we choose, whether outside in the open or inside our structures. For outdoor planting, all you need to do is till the soil and scatter the seeds. For indoor cultivation, you can utilize our dynamic planter system, which offers a variety of shapes, colors, and materials.




Plants grown indoors are shielded from weather elements but have other growth requirements. Each plant needs light to thrive, and you can address this dilemma in a few ways. You could construct a greenhouse using glass construction blocks or add large glass windows to your walls—if you can see the sun through the glass, so can the plants.



If glass windows or blocks don't fit your creative vision, you can always opt for grow lights. These specialized lights mimic sunlight and provide the necessary light spectrum to support photosynthesis, enabling indoor plant growth regardless of natural light availability. However, these lights require a stable source of electricity, which you can generate from wind, solar, or geothermal springs. The choice is yours.

Navigating relationships with these characters requires thoughtful choices. Every action and decision you make influences how characters perceive and react to you. They're not static; their preferences, likes, and dislikes significantly impact your journey. Neglect them, and you might find merchants spiking their prices, or residents giving you the cold shoulder.

Each character brings a unique personality and backstory to life. Discover what makes them tick through conversations and quest completions. How you dress and present yourself also matters, affecting their reactions through stats like Impression and Practicality. We're developing a clothing stat system responsible for clothing Impressions and Practicality. Some outfits will look stunning but be totally impractical to work on the farm, and others, like jeans, will have high practicality and medium impression, allowing you to get dirty in style. For example, a stunning dress that earns you compliments but gets dirty from farm work might lead to negative emotions and block communication. This system ensures that your fashion choices have real gameplay implications and depth.


But there's more to our characters (NPCs) than meets the eye. They adapt to the changing seasons and their mood swings, changing their clothing and even their hairstyles! Watching the residents of Farm Folks evolve in such ways brings a new layer of depth and realism to our world.

Hello Farm Folks!


We’re excited to share with you our latest devlog. In this update, we would like to chat more about our upcoming Kickstarter and the exciting new features we're implementing into the game.




As you know, you - our incredible community - have been asking us to launch on Kickstarter. Well, we’re hard at work on crafting more than just the Kickstarter campaign page, but also an official gameplay trailer for Farm Folks! This trailer will showcase all aspects of the game: farming, construction, automation, NPC interactions, machinery, animals, and various means of transportation. We’re proud to say that the entirety of the trailer is shot within the game. We have no plans to use CGI outside of Unity.



The gameplay trailer itself is a massive undertaking for our smaller team, but we know that it will be well worth it (we think you’ll love it)! At the same time, we are continuously developing game features and assets. It’s certainly a juggle of challenging tasks, but we’re making fruitful progress behind the scenes; some of our folks in Legendairy have seen only a fraction of what’s to come.



While our initial hope was to launch the Kickstarter towards the beginning of 2023, our scope ultimately requires more work and attention to detail. With that said, it probably comes as no surprise that we are pushing the Kickstarter launch further as we continue to craft the campaign. We see your eagerness across our channels and feel the love and support of the community; Crytivo is a small but strong team that is fully invested in seeing Farm Folks become the success you all believe it can be.



Though it may take a little longer for us to hit that Kickstarter launch button, we do want to introduce some Stretch Goals ahead of the Kickstarter. These Stretch Goals will help us evaluate new features and introduce them to the game based on our community preferences. Let’s call them Farm Folks Community Stretch Goals. We will reveal new goals if and when we reach the current one(s). Of course, you can influence our future picks by leaving your comments and suggestions in our Discord.

Our team has spent a great deal of time developing automation systems for the game. We are excited to share that Farm Folks now has electricity and electric generators!. Wind turbines generate electricity based on their positioning in the world (the higher they are the better), wind direction, and intensity.



We’ve also developed and implemented our hydraulic railing system! This automation will allow you to connect machines together and deliver resources to places quickly and more efficiently.

Greetings, dear farmers! We know that you've been enjoying the serene and peaceful life in the world of Farm Folks. But now, we have a thrilling surprise for you! Get ready to embark on an adventure of prehistoric proportions with our latest game mode, Farm Folks: Dino Crisis Mode!

FARM FOLKS | DINO CRISIS MODE

That's right, folks! It's time to trade in your pitchforks for laser-guided weapons and saddle up on your very own combat dinosaurs. Gone are the days of just tending to your crops and livestock. In Dino Crisis Mode, your tranquil farm will transform into a battleground where you'll tame, feed, play catch with and customize dinosaurs, decking them out with weapons, stickers, and maybe even a stylish fedora or two for epic dino duels against fellow players. Can you imagine a T-Rex wearing a tutu? We can, and it's hilarious!



While you can still enjoy the tranquil life of farming, a thrilling twist awaits you. When the time comes, you and your combat-ready dinosaurs will be dropped onto the mysterious Skull Island.



Skull Island spans an impressive 36 km², a mysterious and vast landscape waiting to be explored. As a player, you'll be dropped onto the island alongside your battle dinosaur. In the initial moments, you must locate your dino companion, perhaps hidden amongst the lush foliage, and begin looting the surroundings.



Here, players can team up for groundbreaking Dino Crisis Mode battles that can last for days, or even weeks, of non-stop, adrenaline-pumping gameplay.





Our tests have revealed that not all players exhibit hostility at first; however, we recommend exercising caution and not placing trust in anyone, as alliances may shift quicker than a raptor's reflexes. After all, as they say in the prehistoric world, "keep your friends close, and your dinos closer.



As your loyal dinosaur companions grow exhausted from the intense combat, you'll gain a truly unforgettable experience. With every thunderous step these giants take, the world around you will ignite in flames and become littered with bullet casings.



And, for a bit of fun, our developers have added a small chance for your dino to let out a cheeky fart, leaving your opponents in a fit of laughter!



Once the dust settles and the battles subside, you and your dinosaur best friend can return home to your peaceful farm. Your mighty dino will then switch gears, assisting you with heavy farming tasks and helping you manage your daily routine. Don't be surprised if you find your dino sunbathing in a kiddie pool, wearing sunglasses, and sipping on a fruit smoothie after a hard day's work!



But how do you get these amazing dinosaurs? As you venture into the wild to find or steal dino eggs, you might come across a particularly sneaky and amusing way to acquire a new dino companion. That's right, you'll have the opportunity to steal a dino egg from another unsuspecting player!



Imagine the hilarity that ensues as you carefully plot your daring heist. Disguise yourself as a friendly, fellow farmer, offer to lend a helping hand, and then, when the moment is right, snatch the precious dino egg right out from under their nose! But be careful not to get caught, or you'll be chased by a pack of angry dinos, leaving you and your stolen egg scrambling for safety.



Each dinosaur will have unique color and skin patterns — no two animals will be the same. Their characteristics and behaviors will also differ, ranging from playful to grumpy or combative.



To achieve this level of diversity and detail, dinosaur skins are procedurally generated by our advanced Open AI, SkinGPT. This innovative system utilizes online information available up to the year 2021 related to dinosaurs and converts that information into high-resolution dinosaur skins, creating truly one-of-a-kind creatures for players to enjoy.



We are committed to making SkinGPT available for free (non-profit). However, if Microsoft decides to buy it for 20 billion dollars, we might have to charge it to a $20 per month subscription fee. But for now, our focus is on providing an amazing experience for all players to enjoy our unique and diverse dinosaurs!





With three distinct dino classes — fast, tactical, and heavy — each with unique perks and weapon-carrying abilities, you'll have endless ways to dominate the battlefield. Need to get somewhere quickly? Hop on a pterodactyl and glide through the skies like a boss, leaving a trail of crop-dusting chaos behind you.



Players can craft weapons on their farms or loot them from defeated rivals on the battlefield. These weapons come with extensive customization options, allowing you to paint them in different colors and even add custom decals.





Each weapon has unique characteristics, introducing diversity to the combat experience. Rare weapons can be discovered in crates scattered throughout Skull Island or unlocked by completing quests for NPCs in the Farm Folks world.



But wait, there's more! We're also introducing a revolutionary voice command system that utilizes your microphone. It allows you to motivate and inspire your dinos during battles with phrases like "Let's go, boy, show them what we can do!" or "Bite his a$$ off!" Train them with new phrases and watch how they react. Don't be shocked if your dino responds with an eye roll or a sarcastic snort — these dinos have a sense of humor too!

Juligan's artistic talent is not limited to commissioned work; his murals often appear on the streets of the town randomly, adding to the intrigue of his persona. You may stumble upon one of his pieces during a stroll through the town, and it is always a treat to see his latest creation.



Despite his closed personality, there is a certain allure to Juligan that draws people in. Perhaps it's the mystery of not knowing his full name or what he likes that makes him so intriguing. Or maybe it's the desire to be the one person who can break through his walls and get to know the real Juligan.



As a romanceable NPC, you may have the opportunity to learn more about Juligan and get to know him on a deeper level. Will you be the one to unlock the secrets of this elusive mural artist and allow him to open his soul to you? Only time will tell.
