Survival Diary - Log 2.

Day 2
As dawn arrives, my eyes flutter open. The previous day has made me both excited and worried to explore this unknown island which seems filled with wildlife and mysteries.

First though, Tools! Tools so I can cut down trees myself, to cut through the brambles to get at the fruit in bushes. To begin with, I wander along the beach to gather the necessary materials to make myself a basic axe of sorts.

It takes me a little time to get these materials, but I manage to find them and fashion, after a few attempts, a crude axe. I grasp it and straight away head towards the bushes I saw some berries on, I cut through the brambles and stuff my face full of purple berries.

My hunger is satisfied, so it’s time to start cutting down trees! I want to get enough logs together to at least create a fire, or a table so I can make things easier for myself, and then think about some walls, but I know that will take time to do.

After cutting down a few trees, some of which had some bananas, and after a while I started to hear some noise behind me. My work had clearly attracted something, I gripped the axe harder just in case, ready to swing to find… several monkeys! These adorable creatures that I’ve heard of, and read books about, but had never seen in person.

I was a little excited. I knew they weren’t known to be hostile, cheeky maybe, but friendly. I held out some of the bananas I had gathered and a couple of them came forward to take and eat from me. A few of them stayed back. I thought all monkeys liked bananas but obviously not – I might have to tempt them with something else…

They stayed around and seemed to watch me, but no rest of the wicked! So I went to cut down more trees. It was then I found out, that those who took from me, picked up my spare axes I had left on the floor and started to help me! They started to cut down trees as well!

This. IS. AMAZING!

I take a couple planks of wood that I had shaped, and some other materials and tried to build a table. The monkeys learned this too!

I wonder what else they can do?
