Season IX Territory War Changes Explained

We hope you’re enjoying the epic battles as part of the Territory Wars of Season IX: Tyranny! We’re here to answer any questions you may have about the new Territory War changes and what to expect.
How to Declare War
Houses that meet the requirements to declare war (dependent on both Prestige and House Level) can have their Liege or Seneschals declare war on a specific fief which they then attack during Territory War. If multiple Houses declare war on a single fief, the House with the most Prestige will be able to attack it first, and they will become the Ruling House for that attack, gaining the authority to decide who can join the battle.

If the Ruling House occupies the fief, they will be temporarily removed from the Ruling House selection list, and the House with the second-most Prestige can attack. If they lose the battle, they will lose Prestige, and the next House can attack, and so on.
How to Earn Prestige
Houses can gain Prestige via completing House Quests, occupying fiefs, and upgrading fiefs. Completing one phase of a House quest will activate the next phase, and is a great way to earn Prestige for use in Territory Wars.
Declaring War & Inappropriate War Declarations
Houses that wish to declare war against a fief must be of a higher level than the fief in question and have Prestige exceeding the amount necessary for that fief. The requirements to declare war against a fief will increase with its level and is also affected by its type (villages, cities, or forts).

There are several actions that a House can take that fall into the unreasonable or inappropriate war declaration category and lead to a loss of Prestige:
 • Abrupt War Declarations: Declaring war against a fief 24 hours before Territory War begins and failing the attack will result in a 1.25x Prestige loss. Similarly, declaring war against a fief during Territory War and failing that attack will result in a 2x Prestige loss.
 • Excess of Territory: War declarations for Houses that control 3-4 fiefs will cost 200 Prestige. If a House has 5 or more fiefs, war declarations will cost 500 Prestige.
 • Attacking Weak Fiefs: For houses with 2-4 towns and forts, declaring war against a village will cost 100 Prestige. If a house has 5-6, war declarations against villages will cost 200 Prestige. If a house has 7 or more, war declarations against villages will cost 300 Prestige.
 • Declaring Too Many Wars: Houses may at most declare war against ten fiefs during a single Territory War, but after the fourth declaration, Prestige will be deducted at the point of declaration.
Becoming the Ruling House
In cases where multiple Houses have equal Prestige, the House who declares war first will assume command of the war on a fief as the Ruling House.

When Territory War begins, the Prestige of all Houses will be displayed in descending order, and the House ranked first will become the Ruling House.

Once the Ruling House has been decided, the list order will stop changing. If the Ruling House doesn't start a battle within three minutes, they will lose 1,000 Prestige, and the other houses in the list will once again be ordered based on Prestige to see who will command the battle.

If the Ruling House fails to occupy the fief, they will lose Prestige but remain within the war declartation list. Houses will then once again be ordered based on Prestige, and if they still have the most Prestige, they will command the next battle as well.

The Ruling House has full control over the battle, and members of that House with the authority to do so may change the settings regarding whether members from other Houses may participate or remove any Warlord from the battle.
Victory & Defeat
If the Ruling House fails to occupy the fief (whether the defenders successfully defend it or if another House, including other Houses in their Alliance, manage to occupy it), they will lose a certain percentage of Prestige. A minimum of 100 Prestige is lost against towns, 80 against forts, and 50 against villages. Actual percentages depend on fief type and level.
Withdrawing
After declaring war against a fief, a House has the option to withdraw from the battle. Withdrawing from a battle will deduct Prestige. A House that is not the Ruling House will lose 200 Prestige upon withdrawing. However, should the Ruling House withdraw, they will suffer a bigger hit to their Prestige. If they retreat before the battle has begun, they will lose 400 Prestige, plus another 15% deduction of their remaining Prestige. Upon doing so, a new Ruling House will immediately be selected. However, this fief will still count toward that House's war declarations for this Territory War and might lead to further Prestige losses.

The Ruling House cannot withdraw from a battle that has already begun.

Houses may also not declare war against fiefs they withdraw from during that Territory War.
Territory War Fiefs & Prestige
A House that loses a fief during Territory War will lose a large amount of Prestige (based on type and level):
Field Camps
It costs House coins to build field camps. The cost depends on what type of camp is being built, and there is a cap on the number of different field camps that can exist within a region.

Players who joined the Imperial Restorationists or those not in a House cannot build field camps.

Buying artillery (siege towers, siege machines, battering rams) at field camps costs House coins.

The Ruler's Flag will grant 200 Prestige for contending for the Ruling House in that area. This Prestige is lost upon its destruction. There may only be one Ruler's Flag in a fief area.
Fief Levels
When a fief owned by a House is upgraded, they will gain Prestige (based on its type and level) to reflect this.

Whether a fief can be upgraded depends on its building materials. Completing quests in a fief grants it materials. When a fief's material quantity reaches level-up requirements, the liege of its occupant House may upgrade it.

Whether a fief gets demoted or not is related to its Prosperity. Some materials will be used every Monday at midnight for maintenance, and if you have sufficient building materials in your fief warehouse, a small number of building materials are deducted, and your fief's Prosperity value increases by 30. If you have insufficient building materials in your fief warehouse, building materials are not deducted and your fief's Prosperity value decreases by 50.

If the center of a fief is captured during Territory War, it will lose 15 Prosperity. If the defenders' camp is lost, it will lose 50 Prosperity.

When a fief owned by a House is demoted, they will lose Prestige (based on its type and level) to reflect this. If a fief is demoted as it switches owners, the original owners will lose the corresponding Prestige.

Creepy Conqueror's Tales: So, You’ve Awoken Dracula

We've all been there. You're gallivanting and swashbuckling through a decrepit Wallachian castle, fighting off crazed bats and gigantic arachnids, when suddenly, you nick your hand on an ancient sword, stumble into a random tomb containing an ancient coffin, and the blood dripping from your open wound rejuvenates an unspeakable evil rejected by Hell itself. Mondays, am I right?

You know what you did was wrong, but the question is, how are you going to make things right? It’s time to ask yourself a few questions.

Where are you?

Why, you’re in Wallachia, of course! A region of Romania that houses the iconic province of Transylvania and just so happens to be the birthplace of your powerful new enemy...

Who is this demonic man?

That would be Vlad The Impaler, or Vlad III, or Vlad Dracula — three-time Voivode of Wallachia, and the quintessential vampire. The inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Vlad did some pretty questionable stuff, including but not limited to…. impaling people. While Vlad The Impaler did have a taste for blood, it was more metaphorical. Unfortunately for you, this is the vampiric version of Vlad, and he looks hungry.

Why is he here?

What better place to wait out your eternal suffering than in a decrepit castle in a Romanian forest? Also, thanks to those 80,000 people who Vlad murdered in cold blood, he may be hiding out until the heat dies down. Give it another few hundred years, Vlad.

What does he want?

To take you back to his Wallachian palace and impale you! Some don’t consider Vlad all that bad — he achieved folk hero status due to his fight for the independence of Romanian lands. That was, of course, before an undead curse doomed him, and before you toppled into his sarcophagus, waking him up and making him ravenous with that wound...

How can you fight him off and send him back to the depths of Hell?

As many vampires possess superhuman strength, it may not be that easy to take Vlad down, but stake to the heart could work nicely. Maybe a splash of holy water, a few cloves of garlic. But as with all monsters, will he ever truly be gone?

Think your friend might be cursed with Vlad’s affliction? Find out how to spot a vampire with our Creepy Conqueror’s Tales. You can also pay homage to Dracula with our bloody fantastic vampire-themed attires.
