Thank you to everyone who was brave enough to pen a declaration of war for our Scribe Week Writing Contest. The Sultan of Anadolou, normally expressionless when he studies his morning correspondence, was moved to comment on a number of entries. However, there was one in particular that caused him to consider abandoning his campaign for Reginopolis, when he received the following from LadyVengeance...

His Sublime Majesty,

Sultan Faith Suleyman, the Fourth of That Name, and Sovereign Ruler of the State and Territory of Anadolou,

It has been many years past since we last spoke and yet, I still remember the burning fervor we once had for each other. You were but ‘His Royal Highness,’ a prince, eager for my heart’s affections, and I, a princess, so very young and excited by your love and your ambition. It was just as enticing then as it is now, but unfortunately, we grow up.

Now time has seen to it that this ambition you had has betrayed itself upon my heart deeper than I had first considered it – and sharp, like the blade of many conquerors before, it pains me to say this but… you have broken all that we had between us, and you have gone too far.

This is my declaration of war!

Although quaint, your attempt at befalling the pride and glory of our dearest Queen of Cities, Reginopolis, was, at best amusing… It is time for you to surrender your heart to me or pay in the blood of our empires.

And even now, as you plot further devices of destruction across the land, I urge you to reconsider your next move: Take heed, whilst your head be on your shoulders, and your chest still dares to rise and fall – I pray, for your sake – that should we speak again, you are ready to say all that my ears would dare to hear.

Well done to LadyVengeance (NA) for penning the winning English entry, and to compatriots AthosDeLaFere (EU1) and Ceremony (NA), whose words have secured their authors second and third prize respectively. The Sultan is now meeting with his exchequer to arrange the rapid transfer of Sovereigns and Premium Account time to all winners from all nations, with a view to avoiding any unnecessary military action in the future.

What’s new in September: Get a heads up on what’s planned and happening during the month ahead!

After the summer success of our first Twitch Drop event, we are ready to begin a second, longer-lasting set of Drops, with bigger rewards and more to claim every day! 

Starting September 8, from 15:00 CEST, you can claim up to three drops each day until September 19 at 15:00 CEST. All you need to take part is to:
 

1. Ensure that your game account is linked to your Twitch account. Login via this linkand select ‘Link with Twitch’ to confirm access.
2. While the September Twitch Drop is active, watch one or more eligible streams (listed below) for one 30-minute period per drop.
3. Enjoy your new in-game content!

Dropped items will be selected at random from the following (per 30 minutes of viewing time, up to a maximum of three per 24 hour period):
 
 


Recommended Channels 

If you’re not a regular viewer of Conqueror’s Blade on Twitch, we can heartily recommend the following channels that are part of the Content Creator Program. Each will be participating in the September Twitch Drop event as their schedules allow. Be sure to check out as many of them as you can, and subscribe to those you enjoy!

• Drops are randomised, and you may receive multiples of the same item.
• Drops are issued per 30 minutes of viewing time, up to a maximum of three per 24 hour period.
• Your Conqueror’s Blade account and Twitch account must be linked.

What’s new in September: Get a heads up on what’s planned and happening during the month ahead!

Janissaries were the first unit to be released during Season IV: Blood of the Empire update, and have quickly established themselves as one of the most popular ranged units in the game, due to being a necessary route to unlocking Azaps and Sipahis. 

Janissary units can be distinguished by their Ottoman-inspired headdresses, as well as their heavy calibre rifles that, to be at their most devastating, require the use of aiming forks.
 

Unlocking 

You will be able to command a unit of Janissaries temporarily after completing one series of Season IV unit challenges. The unit will become permanently yours after finishing a second stage (along with any XP the unit may have earned along the way). Complete Stage 3 to secure a Doctrine that increases the unit’s rate of fire by 8%!






Gameplay 

Compared to other ranged units on the medieval battlefield, the Janissaries represent discipline and order. Without it, they might just be firing opportunistic volleys and hoping not to run into melee units. However, when deployed in a Three Rank Formation using the Prepared Volley order, they can be just as effective as higher tiered units like the Imperial Arquebusier. Be wary though, for as with Season III’s Falconetto Gunners, they can be left cruelly exposed. Protect their flanks, and they will pay back your attack with interest.




Progression 

Janissaries have a maximum unit level of 16, with Veterancy Points investable across two branches, neither of which is particularly suited towards any specific role. The top branch augments the Prepared Volley order and ends with two extra soldiers, and may be preferable to maxing out the lower branch of more general bonuses.

• Battle for the Conqueror’s City (September 15, 19, 22, 26): The Anadolou Empire’s conquest comes to its desperate and inevitable conclusion as warlords, Houses, and Alliances battle to lay claim to the ultimate prize! You can test your strategies without consequence on September 15 in Drill Mode, then the real battles will unfold from September 19.
