Season IV: New Unit and Weekly Challenges

The fresh wind of a new season always brings new challenges, and this is especially true of Season IV: Blood of the Empire. As well as new units to unlock, we also have Wages of War and Songs of Battle (previously known as Experience and Growth Challenges). Finally, there’ll be a new set of Weekly Challenges to undertake; ten weeks of matchmaking-based combat, which, new to Season IV, is presented in a campaign-style.

Season IV Unit Challenges

Access to Season IV’s new units will be staggered and will require you to work through a number of Unit Challenge stages, each comprising six challenges. Bring up the Seasons menu with F5 and select the Unit Challenges tab, then select a unit to see its requirements.

Previous Unit Challenges

For those that didn’t manage to fully unlock content from Seasons II and III, those challenges will again be accessible via a drop-down selection box in the top-left of the Unit Challenge screen. Note that the additional rewards that were specific to previous seasons (Fangs, cosmetics, etc.) will not be issued, nor will it be possible to acquire them from the Season IV Store.

It’s important to note that you can only focus on one set of Unit Challenges at a time. If you wish to switch from completing Season IV Unit Challenges to those of previous seasons, it will cost 1,000 Silver, and there is a time penalty for switching back (which can be offset by Silver). Consider carefully when might be the best time to focus on the units you need. If and when you do switch, your progress will be saved for when you return.

Wages of War, Songs of Battle

These are two separate sets of season-long challenges that, as you manage to complete each stage, will reward you with items to better your new units. From Wages of War you will receive Rare and Epic-level Doctrines and Signacula, while from Songs of Battle you’ll be given Rare Armour Schematics and Emotes.

Weekly Challenges

While Unit Challenges remain active throughout a season, Weekly Challenges change as the season progresses. These are the tasks from which you will amass the Glory necessary to attain higher levels of Nobility. The higher your Nobility ranking, the greater the rewards (and if you have a Battle Pass, those rewards are even greater).

For Season IV we have infused Weekly Challenge progression with story elements, and added challenges in which progression can be shared with team mates - such as the slaying of other Heroes on the battlefields. We’ve also made some of the challenges that were specific to one side applicable to both (ie, “In Siege Battle mode push a siege tower to the ramparts or destroy a large enemy siege engine.”)

The challenges of Season IV: Blood of the Empire start July 21!

Behind the Scenes: Feature Redevelopment

This Behind the Scenes feature was provided by Booming Games, the developer of Conqueror’s Blade. The article discusses features which are still in development, which may be subject to change between now and their release.

From the beginning of Season IV: Blood of the Empire, we planned to launch new and revised game features, including player-built structures, changes to player pursuit and Territory Wars, and new deployable items (Powder Kegs and Barricades) to enrich the strategy and experience of playing Conqueror’s Blade.

After extensive development, testing, and eventual release in our own game client, we agreed that we cannot release features that do not meet our standards and our players’ standards, and made the difficult decision to postpone and re-develop these features. On behalf of the Conqueror’s Blade team, we would like to apologize to all of you, and share some insight into this decision, as well as future plans for certain features.

Territory Wars

The experience of Territory Wars can often be obstructed by certain players who intentionally join the battle line and remain idle to help another alliance defend the fief. The updates made to the Ruling House system for Conqueror’s City in Season III were designed to address this, but also experienced some issues. Our intended changes in Season IV would have eased this issue, but upon implementation, we realised it was having the reverse effect.

Certain exploits, including Houses teaming up with other Houses to stall attacks until the conclusion of a battle, have caused frustration for our players. We also know that many players also don’t meet the right requirements to enjoy Territory Wars at all. We are working to ensure that, in the future, all players will be able to enjoy Territory Wars to its fullest potential, and that the experience is one we can be proud to share.

Player Pursuit in the Open World

Players can ‘chase’ other players in the open world and, upon catching them, force them into a battle. Other players not engaged in the battle can join the battle on either the defending or attacking side. Some players have used this feature to prevent Houses from calling upon allies to defend a Fief in the open world, a mechanic that drives players to be more strategic.

Often, players could successfully avoid battles with good planning, navigation, and awareness. One of the features we intended to create was a ‘Field Camp’, an area which has a certain chance of forcing players within its radius into battle (see the below image for the odds, depending on where you move within this radius). This system would have allowed more than two groups to fight against each other, with up to eight teams fighting for the Camp. Allies could assist by entering the Field Camp at eight different points around the core of the Field Camp.

Player-Built Fiefs

We are planning to implement player-built structures, which can be built within a city’s jurisdiction after declaring war on that city. We are developing several features connected to this new functionality. A ‘Battle Flag’ would allow players to occupy a player-built fief. Using this Flag, players can capture it when breached - without it, they can only loot it.

Members of a player-built Fief’s House or Alliance will be able to purchase large artillery and siege equipment (in limited quantities) at an ‘Artillery Construction Base’, which can then be deployed directly to the battlefield.

Explosive Kegs and Barricades

These new items, which can be deployed by players, can be used to attack enemies, cause damage, or impede enemy progress. We’re actively working on them, and they will now be introduced to Conqueror’s Blade at a later date.

Thank you for your patience as we develop these features further. We’ll see you on the battlefield!

Minotaur Attire contest winners!

Last month we asked you to get creative around the theme of the ancient Minotaur, with the top prize in three categories being your very own limited edition Minotaur Hero Attire. Released in celebration of Conqueror’s Blade’s first anniversary, the attire is currently unavailable, but thanks to their respective efforts with paintbrushes, paring knives and pairs of scissors, Alesito (NA server), Arumbaya (EU West 1) and Wurthless (NA) can all look forward to dishing out bovine retribution to their enemies.

Season IV: New tactical commands and emotes!

As part of the Season IV: Blood of the Empire update, the chat wheel function is being massively expanded. Previously, pressing the middle-mouse button would allow you to voicelessly communicate with allies on the battlefield using a limited set of commands and responses. From July 21, not only will the wheel function be accessible away from the battlefield, it can be customised to include expanded commands and all-new emotes.

You can view and select tactical commands, responses and emotes by going to the new Emotes tab of your Character screen (P). To customise the wheel’s EMOTES MODE just right-click on the emote and position it in one of the eight slots on the wheel. You can preview each emote by left-clicking its icon first.

You can customise battlefield commands and responses for the wheel’s TACTICS MODE  in the exact same way. To remove an “equipped” tactic, simply right-click or replace with another.

By default the wheel will be in EMOTES MODE when located in fiefs and TACTICS MODE when in battle. On the battlefield you can switch between the two by pressing TAB.

Players will start Season IV with all tactical commands and responses unlocked, and with a selection of essential emotes. Some emotes (listed below) will require you to reach the requisite Nobility rank to be able to use them.

We’d love to know what you think of the new system and how it can be expanded, although it might be best to do so via the usual social channels rather than by waving - just in case we don’t see you!
