Season IX: Ranked Battles

Ranked Battles return on October 8! Accessible throughout Season IX: Tyranny, check out the Event Schedule to plan your rise through the ranks over the coming weeks.

Unlike regular matchmaking battles, from which you primarily earn Bronze and XP, Ranked Battles are all about creating a persistent record of where you sit beside other heroes. Your efforts will still reward you with experience and go towards fulfilling quest objectives (although you won’t receive any Bronze), but Ranked Matchmaking is primarily about establishing an evolving order of dominance.

As well as ranks to climb by earning points, there are weekly and season rewards to unlock - including a choice of unit attires to parade in front of your competitors.

You can always check out your current rank by pressing ‘J’ and selecting the Ranked Battle tab.
Ranked Battle Information
• Cross-server battles will be enabled, meaning players from NA/EU will be matched together. Matchmaking for NA will first search for players on their own server before moving them into the cross-server queue (EU will automatically go into the cross-server queue).
 • Ranked Battles will occur all weekend during the Season, and with cross-server enabled, we anticipate shorter queue times.
 • Ranked Battles are scheduled to run throughout Season IX.
 • Characters must be level 100 or above to take part in Ranked Battles.
 • Player groups are limited to 3 members.
 • Above Gladiator, players within a group must all be within one rank of one another. (Eg: If one player is ranked Arena Hero, the others must either be Arena Hero or Gladiator, or Arena Hero and Imperial Hero)
 • Deployable artillery per player is limited to one piece for defenders and two for attackers.
 • Units do not endure permanent losses.
 • In-game currency is not given out as a reward for participation.
 • Rewards will be distributed weekly and after the conclusion of a season, as appropriate.
 • The rules, schedule and rewards for Ranked Battles are subject to change, although we will strive to keep you updated prior to any changes.

Season IX: Campaign Dates

The age of heroes is over – it’s time for rebels. Take up arms and rally against evil in Season IX: Tyranny. Raise your rebellion, forge alliances, and seek glory on the battlefield as you embark on this new Seasonal Campaign!

To participate in the Campaign, you must belong to an NPC or player-controlled House/Cohort or Alliance and fight alongside your fellow warlords via the ‘Battle’ interface or in the open world to gain control of settlements. Season IX’s Territory Wars began on September 28 and will occur every Tuesday and Saturday throughout the season. For more information about Territory Wars, check out our top tips here.

Territory Wars have improved in Season IX, and you can read up on those changes here.

The Season IX Campaign is divided into five stages. The Borderlands is the core region, with the main objective being its Capital: Conqueror’s City (in Stage 5). As stages progress, access is granted to neighbouring regions, which then become conquerable. The Borderlands’ fiefs will grant Influence to their captors’ Alliance, and whoever controls Conqueror’s City will be the victor. The winning House’s liege will receive the Hegemon title, and all members will receive additional rewards.

Unit Guide: Outriders

Armed with throwing spears and a score to settle, the Outriders are the first Seasonal Unit available in Season IX: Tyranny. Available to unlock now via Unit Challenges, the Outriders speed into battle on horseback and throw incendiary javelins at their foes, then shift to melee attacks when the conflict gets too close for comfort.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Unlocking
The Outriders are unlocked via Seasonal Unit Challenges, and they enjoy a Seasonal Bonus in the form of Leadership requirements decreased by 10 and resupply costs reduced by 50% during Season IX.
Gameplay
With the Borderlands’ agricultural industries depleted, the Outriders must fight back for the sake of their precious mounts, and their land.

When fighting in the resource-poor wastelands, Outriders can plunder their enemies for their ammunition, then soak those stolen spears in naptha, causing explosive damage to whomever they hit.
Just the facts: Outriders (3-Star)
Formations
 • Dispersed: The Outriders spread to lessen damage from ranged attacks.
 • Crane: A two-winged formation, good for attacking enemies to the front.
Unit Traits
 • Scavengers: In an environment scarce in resources, Outriders can plunder the enemy's supplies in battle to replenish their own ammunition.
 • Reckless: Outriders are not afraid of taking the battle to the enemy and will use melee attacks when close. Every 5 seconds, they unleash explosive attacks (while also becoming energised for 3 seconds), greatly increasing their speed.
 • Borderlanders: Leadership costs are reduced by 10 during Season IX: Tyranny.
 • Unreliable Weapons: Where there’s a pro, there's a con. The incendiary javelins Outriders use do not always work correctly, and have a chance of not exploding on impact.
Unit Orders
 • Ride Like the Wind: Upon hearing their commander’s order, Outriders charge to the current target and throw a round of explosive javelins at the enemy, then plunder their ammo.
 • Burning Plains: Outriders can be ordered to ignite an explosive javelin and hurl it at an enemy, soaking them in naptha. After a few seconds, an explosion will inflict damage and reduce the opponents Block.

The Outriders are available to unlock via Unit Challenges now!
