Season VIII: Changes to Modao Battalion

You may have noticed that, though we announced the Modao Battalion as a 4-Star Seasonal Unit coming soon to Season VIII: Dynasty, we recently changed it to a 5-Star unit. After a series of tests, we realised that its power far surpasses that of a 4-star unit, and so instead of making larger changes later in the season, we decided to upgrade it ahead of its release.

The Modao Battalion will not become more difficult to unlock as a result and will have the same unlock criteria we envisioned for it in its previous 4-Star form. The unit will also require less leadership compared to other 5-Star units. We view this as a trial that will also serve as a point of reference for how we decide to implement changes in the future. We will be exploring a variety of changes, including leadership, complexity, power, skills, and more, for units in the future, so feel free to share with us any feedback you may have on the topic!

We also aim to create a more diverse gameplay experience in general, where players are encouraged to command a greater variety of units. To this end, we will be lowering the completion requirements of all Seasonal Unit quests by two for each phase. This means that you will need to complete six quests per phase for 3-Star units (down from eight), eight for 4-Star units (down from 10), and 10 for 5-Star units (down from 12). This should allow you to unlock units from previous seasons faster, and give you a greater choice of units to use in Season VIII: Dynasty and beyond.

We will continue to finetune units and the different gameplay experiences they bring to the table, and will improve upon them in any way we can. We hope you look forward to recruiting the Modao Battalion later on in Season VIII: Dynasty!

Unit Guide: Cudgel Monks

These benevolent martial artists are poised to fight for you as the first Seasonal Unit available in Season VIII: Dynasty. Available to unlock now via Unit Challenges, the Cudgel Monks are a highly effective defensive unit, delivering swift attacks with their staves, and powerful flying kicks to break ranks. What they lack in armour, they make up for in tight formations, movement-reducing attacks, and spiritual resolve.
Unlocking
The Cudgel Monks are unlocked via Seasonal Unit Challenges, and they enjoy a Seasonal Bonus in the form of Leadership requirements decreased by 10 and resupply costs reduced by 50% for the duration of Season VIII.

Unit Challenges have been improved and will have their stage completion requirements unified. You now only need to complete some of the challenges of each stage (e.g., 6 out of 8, or 8 out of 10 depending on how many Stars a unit has), removing the requirement of completing all challenges. Read more about all the Unit Challenge improvements here.

Unlocking the Cudgel Monks will also unlock the Restless Mind quest (which you can accept by talking to the Watchman). Completion of this quest will reward you with an exclusive doctrine.
Gameplay
The Cudgel Monks are a monastic order of spiritual warriors who detest war yet fight when they must, and while their greatest quality is their defence, their attack can be punishing when ordered.

When preparing to launch into a fully-flung attack, Cudgel Monks can be ordered to form a narrow Column, charge towards their enemies, and use the Six-Way Staff Order to increase their speed and unleash a stave attack.
Just the facts: Cudgel Monks (3-Star)
Formations
 • Dispersed - The unit spreads out a little to lessen the damage from ranged attacks.
 • Column - A narrow formation effective for charging.
 • Schiltron - The unit forms a circle for all-around defence. Vulnerable to artillery.
Unit Traits
 • Swamp - Increases damage against cavalry by 16%, and reduces an attacked cavalry unit's movement speed by 60% for 2 seconds.
 • Six-Way Staff - Upon activation, the unit performs a powerful attack. If it hits the enemy, the unit recovers 500 health.
 • Suppression of Evil - Each attack increases the unit's own movement speed by 6%, reduces enemy movement speed by 6% and their defence by 10%. This effect can be stacked up to 5 times.
 • Qian Dynasty - Leadership cost reduced by 15 during Season VIII.
Unit Orders
 • Six-Way Staff - Increases monks' pace as they charge towards enemies at high speed, blocking enemy arrows during the charge. The Cudgel Monks then unleash a stave attack with an extra block-breaking effect. Hitting an enemy also recovers some health.
 • Windmill Strike - Monks quickly swing their staves for 10 seconds, dealing continuous damage to the enemy, and restoring 500 health.

The Cudgel Monks are available to unlock via Unit Challenges now!

Season VIII: Campaign Dates

A golden age has begun in Conqueror’s Blade, and epic adventures await in Season VIII: Dynasty. Gather your troops, forge alliances, and seek glory on the battlefield as you embark on its new Seasonal Campaign!

To participate in the Campaign, you must belong to an NPC or player-controlled House/Cohort or Alliance and fight alongside your fellow warlords via the ‘Battle’ interface or in the open world to gain control of settlements. Season VIII’s Territory Wars begin on July 10 and will occur every Tuesday and Saturday throughout the season. For more information about Territory Wars, check out our top tips here.

The Season VIII Campaign is divided into five stages. Maoyong is the core region, with the main objective being its Capital: Anliang (in Stage 5). As stages progress, access is granted to neighbouring regions, which then become conquerable. Maoyang fiefs will grant Influence to their captors’ Alliance, and whoever controls Anliang will be the victor. The winning House’s liege will receive the Hegemon title, and all members will receive additional rewards.
