Talisman: Digital 5th Edition News

State of the Game Update

[p]Hi everyone! ːTalProToadː ːBlueTalismanː[/p][p]With the release of Alliances: Fate Beckons for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition, we’ve hit a pivotal point for the game - so we wanted to fill you in on where we’re currently at, what our plans are for the immediate and longer-term future and more.[/p][p]You can watch Tom talk through the full update in the video below:[/p][p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]Want more information about the State of the Game update than what Tom talked though? You can read all about it in full below![/p][p][/p]

Current State of the Game
[p]First up, we want to talk about where the game is currently at, where we still want to improve and what we’re happy with.[/p][p]As we already mentioned, on July 10th we launched Alliances: Fate Beckons, the first 5th Edition exclusive expansion to come to Talisman: Digital 5th Edition. Adding an all-new cooperative game mode to Talisman for the first time, new mechanics, unique challenges and exciting features like the shared fate pool, was a massive undertaking for our team here at Nomad Games.[/p][p]Now that the expansion is out, we’re pleased to report that we’re quite happy with the reception it had! Particular praise was given to the tutorials, and the extensive beta testing period we took the expansion through clearly paid off, with very few technical issues/bugs being reported at launch. In fact, compared to the original launch of Talisman: Digital Classic Edition especially, the number of bugs and issues that players have reported in the first year of Talisman: Digital 5th Edition being available has been massively reduced.[/p][p]Before and after the launch of this expansion, we’ve been keeping a close eye on community feedback to get a gauge of what you all think of the base game too. With our Steam reviews dropping from ‘Mostly Positive’ to ‘Mixed’ when Alliances: Fate Beckons launched, it’s clear to us that there are still areas for improvement in the base game.[/p][p]With 2 remastered expansions and our first batch of remastered Classic characters released, we’ve also learned a lot from the porting process. First of all, we’ve learned how much the artwork being updated for each expansion takes up resources, time and slows down the development process - as much as 40% of the time and development spending for The Frostmarch Classic and The Reaper Classic was spent on artwork alone! With us being such a small studio too, we’ve only got so many hours our art team can possibly put into projects, so we’re taking them away from other work by having so much of their time taken by these Classic expansions, which isn’t ideal.[/p][p]With more remastered Classic expansions on the horizon (check out our Future Plans for the Game below if you want to know what’s coming next!), we’re therefore going to be taking a slightly different approach with remastered expansions going forward, with us porting over the 4th Edition expansions with the artwork closer matching the original 4th Edition style.[/p][p]We’ve got two main reasons for deciding to do this, the first being that it means we can bring you remastered 4th Edition expansions at a much quicker rate, and the second being that as we progress through the different Classic expansions as they were released, the artwork actually more closely matches the 5th Edition style we’re trying to emulate with our remastered artwork already.[/p][p]So overall, while we’re still keen to make improvements to Talisman: Digital 5th Edition to expand upon the core experience, we’re happy with how stable the game is overall, and the lessons we’ve learned over the past year of development since launch![/p][p][/p]

Future Plans for the Game
[p]Now this is the bit we know you’re all excited for, and we’ll go into further detail if you keep reading, but to summarise our current plans for those of you who just want the headlines, check out the list below![/p]
 • [p]We’re currently working on bringing Talisman: Digital 5th Edition to consoles.[/p]
 • [p]We’re releasing follow-up patches to Alliances: Fate Beckons soon.[/p]
 • [p]We’re finalising the most recent language updates.[/p]
 • [p]The next remastered Classic expansion is going to be The City Expansion.[/p]
 • [p]We’re also planning for The Dungeon Classic to be another one of the remastered expansions we bring across next.[/p]
 • [p]We’ve got another batch of 4th Edition characters we’ll be bringing over to Digital 5th Edition after those two expansions.[/p]
 • [p]We’re rethinking and simplifying how you access Talisman: Digital Classic Edition.[/p]
[p]That’s a whole heap of exciting news, so read on to find out more![/p][p][/p]
Talisman: Digital 5th Edition Console Ports
[p]First of all, the news that many of you have been keenly waiting for - we are actively working on console versions of Talisman: Digital 5th Edition. We’re aiming to launch these ports in November of this year, and here’s what we can say as of right now:[/p]
 • [p]We’ve already ported over a basic version of the game to Nintendo Switch and we’re working on getting the game running on Xbox and PlayStation next.[/p]
 • [p]We’ve started the processes needed to get the game certified on each platform.[/p]
 • [p]So far, we’re pleased with how the game is performing on console - [/p]
 • [p]We’re still a while off being able to give a definitive release date, but we’re hoping to share details soon for all three platforms.[/p]
[p]We know you’re eager to get your hands on Talisman: Digital 5th Edition on console, because we’ve heard you ask for it - so thanks for your patience! [/p][p][/p]
Alliances Launch and Upcoming Patches
[p]On July 10th, we launched Alliances: Fate Beckons, and the player feedback on the first 5th Edition exclusive expansion has been greatly appreciated so far![/p][p]Following on from that feedback, we’re already working on some quality of life improvements for the expansion that’ll improve the experience even more for players.[/p][p]We’re also working on a patch that will add a range of accessibility shortcuts - this is something the community have requested, and we’re going to be keeping a close eye on feedback on what other features players would like to see to improve accessibility in the future.[/p][p]So keep an eye out for these updates coming soon![/p][p][/p]
More Languages for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition
[p]As part of the update for Alliances: Fate Beckons, we added two new languages to the game in beta, those being Russian and Simplified Chinese.[/p][p]We added support for these two languages as a beta, as we’re trying a new method of implementing translations that we’ve never used on any of our titles before - so before we marked them as ‘officially’ supported, we wanted feedback from native speakers on these translations.[/p][p]So far we’ve had great feedback from players, with a few issues arising that our team are looking at fixing - we’re hoping that this new method of adding translations to Talisman will mean that we can go on to support even more languages in the near future.[/p][p][/p]
More Remastered Classic Expansions
[p]After we’ve finished developing and launching the console versions of Talisman: Digital 5th Edition, our plan is to return to remastering 4th Edition content - starting with The City Expansion.[/p][p]The corner expansions are some of the most commonly requested for us to bring into 5th Edition, so we hope you’re all excited to bring The City into the new edition of Talisman.[/p][p]After we release The City Classic, our plan is to release The Dungeon Classic, another much-requested corner expansion that adds a wide range of cards and another area to the base Talisman experience. One of the most commonly enabled expansions in Talisman: Digital Classic Edition, we’re confident that The Dungeon Classic will add even more to your next adventure.[/p][p][/p]
More Remastered Characters
[p]Earlier this year, we released our first batch of remastered 4th Edition characters into Talisman: Digital 5th Edition. We’re planning on bringing more of your favourite Classic characters across to 5th Edition next year, with another character pack planned.[/p][p]We’re not quite ready to share who we’re bringing over next, but they’re some of the most played characters in Digital Classic Edition, so we hope you’re excited![/p][p][/p]
Talisman: Digital Classic Edition - Simplified
[p]Back when we originally announced Talisman: Digital 5th Edition, we talked about how we’re working towards a future where there won’t be a need for Talisman: Digital Classic Edition anymore, where Talisman: Digital 5th Edition is the definitive digital Talisman experience for all players.[/p][p]Not only does this make sense from a player perspective (with one definitive version of Talisman to support on an easier-to-develop-for engine, we can ensure everyone has a great time playing Talisman), it also helps us maintain and grow the game in a sustainable way, allowing our small team to focus all our energy on making Talisman: Digital 5th Edition the best it can be, instead of splitting our efforts across two very different platforms. With an updated engine and unified codebase, we can develop features faster, fix issues more reliably, and deliver the kind of ongoing support and updates that players expect from a game in 2025 and beyond.[/p][p]We recently released the Talisman: Digital Classic Complete Collection here on Steam – a full bundle of the original 4th Edition digital game plus all DLC (49 items including base game, expansions and character packs). This means that we can still offer Talisman: Digital Classic Edition to new players who want the full 4th Edition experience as a complete package, without confusing the storefront or fragmenting the audience. By presenting it as a legacy bundle, we’re making it clear that Classic Edition is part of Talisman’s history—not its future. For players who grew up with the 4th Edition ruleset, or just want to explore how the game has evolved over time, the Complete Collection is a convenient, respectful way to preserve that chapter of Talisman.[/p][p]We intend to keep Classic Edition available on platforms like Steam and GOG as a legacy title, even as our focus shifts to Digital 5th Edition. This means die-hard fans can still play the old version, but all future development (new mechanics and expansions, remastered content and innovations) will live in Digital 5th Edition.[/p]

[p]That’s it for our Talisman: Digital 5th Edition - State of the Game Update! We hope you’re looking forward to all the exciting Talisman goodness on the horizon, and if you want to keep up to date with all the big announcements as they happen, you can either sign up to our mailing list or follow us all our different social media channels![/p]

Nomad Games Round-Up - April + May 2025 Edition

[p]Hello again everyone! ːTalProToadː ːBlueTalismanː

April and May of 2025 were both massively exciting months for our small games studio, so we’ve decided to roll two months worth of updates together for you into a single, bumper Round-Up.

Alongside releasing our second remastered Classic expansion for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition and our first batch of remastered Classic characters, we confirmed the release date for the digital version of Alliances: Fate Beckons too!

But that’s only the tip of the iceberg, and with both April and May to cover, we’d better dive in!

On May 22nd, we officially confirmed that Talisman: Digital 5th Edition - Alliances: Fate Beckons would be launching on Steam on July 10th!
[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
In Alliances: Fate Beckons, 2 to 6 players unite to tackle five unique Trials. Each Trial challenges players to complete challenges and defeat formidable adversaries. Successive Trials unveil new characters, cards, and objectives too. Exclusive to the digital version of Alliances: Fate Beckons, you can use the Deck Editor to customise each trail you face, adjusting the challenge or tipping the odds in your favour.

Add the upcoming expansion to your wishlist now!

Alongside all the exciting announcements, April and May also saw us smashing through development milestones for the Talisman: Digital 5th Edition - Alliances: Fate Beckons Expansion! Our development team has been diligently working on implementing the unique mechanics that Alliances: Fate Beckons brings to Talisman. From shared fate pools to new cooperative spells and cards, we're ensuring that the digital adaptation captures the essence of the tabletop experience.

With us running through multiple online games on development builds and our art team doing an amazing job on taking the art from the physical expansion and digitising it, we’re super excited to show you what we’ve done between now and July 10th!

The biggest part of April was the launch of The Frostmarch Classic for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition! The second remastered expansion from our studio, we’ve seen tons of players enjoy this updated iconic expansion, with player feedback being especially positive in April.

Check out all the launch details in one place here on Steam in the original announcement post.

With all the new cards added to 5th Edition through The Frostmarch Classic, we’ve also seen an increase in players using the Deck Editor both offline and online. One of the reasons we decided to adapt The Frostmarch as our second remastered expansion was specifically because of the range of adventure and spell cards that it added to the Talisman experience. It’s good to see that we were right to do so, as many of you have already picked out your favourite cards for your Talisman games.

We also saw many players bringing across their purchases from Talisman: Digital Classic Edition into Talisman: Digital 5th Edition to unlock The Frostmarch Classic. Given that the original version launched digitally over 10 years ago, it’s been great to see players who supported us all those years ago by picking up that expansion continue to support us in this new version of Talisman.

It wouldn’t be an expansion launch without some special streams and showcases, right? Well, not only did Tom take to our official Twitch channel to show off The Frostmarch Classic, but some awesome content creators also tried out the remastered expansion. Check out some of the highlights in the videos below!

On May 22nd, we rolled out an update for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition that added 5 classic characters to the game, including the iconic Druid and Minstrel - available in 5th Edition for the first time anywhere!

Check out the full patch notes and details of this exciting update in the original Steam announcement here.

Alongside these two characters from the 4th Edition base game (available for all 5th Edition players entirely for free, by the way!), we also added remastered versions of The Jester, The Ranger and The Swordsman to the game. Just like with our remastered expansions, anyone who had purchased these characters in Talisman: Digital Classic Edition was able to sync their purchases across to Digital 5th Edition to unlock the new versions at no additional cost.

Community reception to these returning characters has been highly positive from what we’ve seen, with players appreciating the effort we’ve gone through to make them fit within the 5th Edition style. Just like with the expansions we’ve remastered, we massively appreciate the trust that the Talisman community has put in us to take these iconic characters and update them for 5th Edition. So to hear your positive feedback means a lot to us!

Alongside all of the work we’ve been doing to make Talisman: Digital 5th Edition even better, we’ve also been working on something for everyone who’s not taken the plunge into the new version of the game yet - a demo!

Available now right here on Steam, you can freely download the Talisman: Digital 5th Edition demo now to play as either the Wizard or the Warrior in a local match against 3 AI opponents. There’s no limit on the number of games you can play to try out the new 5th Edition experience, and we’ve also included all of the 5th Edition tutorials too, so whether you’re new to the world of Talisman or not, it’s well worth giving it a try.

Over the last two months, we got quite a few more questions from you all into our monthly mailbag, so thank you to everyone who sent in a question for the Nomad Games team![/p][p]From Frederic Soufflet via email [/p]
 • [p] “I am following you just in the hope that Relic (Warhammer) will be localized one day.” [/p]
[p]We appreciate your honesty and determination to see Relic adapted digitally! We know that it’s a game with a lot of fans (we’ve also got copies of Relic in the Nomad office too) and we’ve had quite a few people request we make a digital version over the years.[/p][p]Keep the faith, because we’d never write off Relic: Digital Edition![/p][p]From Niall via email [/p]
 • [p]“Hey guys! Me and my boys rarely get to see each other anymore, so playing Talisman together on mobile whilst we FaceTime is quite a ritual for us nowadays. We all just wanted to know when 5th Edition is coming to mobile? We’re excited to play it! Thanks, and keep smashing it!”[/p]
[p]Soon™.

For a more serious answer, we’re going to be taking a look at our future plans for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition once we’ve launched the Alliances: Fate Beckons Expansion. This will include looking at our plans for ports onto other platforms, so we’ll have a more definitive idea of what the future of Talisman: Digital 5th Edition will look like, and be able to share those plans with you all.

One of the biggest things we can say currently is that we’re using historical data from Talisman: Digital Classic Edition (such as sales, purchase percentages for DLC etc.) to inform how we’d expect Talisman: Digital 5th Edition to perform on other platforms. So, if the Android version of Classic Edition sold 70% of the number of copies as the Steam version, we’re evaluating potential sales of 5th Edition assuming it’d sell the same ratio.

That’s a very long-winded way of saying that the better the Steam version of Talisman: Digital 5th Edition does, the more confident we can be that other platforms will be worth the development time, cost and resources. So if you want us to bring the game to more platforms, telling your friends about the Steam version currently available is one of the best ways you, as a player, can do that!

From Tenzing Gehlen via Twitter [/p]
 • [p] “What's the progress on bringing Talisman 5th edition to consoles?”[/p]
[p]Still soon™

For a more serious answer, please check out our reply above! When we’re evaluating console, we apply many of the same things as we do to our thought process for mobile ports. Consoles are a little more tricky as there’s a few more steps involved, but the basic principal of evaluating when we should make a port is the same.

Also, if there’s a particular console or platform you’d like to see Talisman: Digital 5th Edition on, letting us know directly is another great way to influence our decisions![/p][p]
From Pipefenix619 via email [/p]
 • [p] “I want to ask, are you going to do characters individually like you did on the 4th edition with unique art like the 4th edition expansions (such as The Reaper) transferred in the 5th edition?” [/p]
[p]We most certainly are! As you'll have hopefully now seen as our first remastered characters have been rolled out, each one has unique art and a new digital 3D figure for the board, to match the rest of the 5th Edition characters. Also, if you’ve already purchased an individual character in Talisman: Digital Classic Edition, you’ll be able to unlock their remastered version by syncing across your original purchase, just like we’ve been offering with the remastered Classic expansions![/p][p][/p][p]From חיים נתנאל פרסי via email [/p]
 • [p] “Will you update the digital classic edition in the future? Or the game will be transformed completely to the 5th edition?”[/p]
[p]Eventually, we want you to be able to experience everything you would have had in Digital Classic Edition all in one single place. So we’re aiming to reach a point where yes, there isn’t really a need for Talisman: Digital Classic Edition, because everything you could do in that game is available in Talisman: Digital 5th Edition.

However, with it being a game that’s been around for 11+ years, we know a lot of players have grown attached to the game for nostalgia reasons. So, our current plan is to keep Talisman: Digital Classic Edition as a legacy title, available via platforms like GOG while we remaster 4th Edition content into Talisman: Digital 5th Edition. On platforms that support it (like Steam) we’ll also give Talisman: Digital 5th Edition owners a copy of Classic, so they can still experience that 4th Edition content while we’re in the process of bringing it over to Talisman: Digital 5th Edition.

This whole process is going to take time, so it’s hard for us to give a fully definitive answer on something that’s years down the line, but we hope that answers your question!

From Patrick Coelius via Facebook[/p]
 • [p]When can I expect a new update for Talisman 5th Edition so that I can play it whenever I want without the random effect and without worrying that it might kick me out of the game again?”[/p]
[p]If you’re having a specific issue with Talisman: Digital 5th Edition, we’d love to know what exactly it is! Our support team have been working hard to help the people who’ve had issues with the game due to their specific PC setups, and we’ve seen a steady decrease in crashes and bug reports since launch. However, we’re not naive - we know there’s always going to be people coming across new issues, so for anyone reading this (and to you Patrick!), you can reach out to [email protected] anytime and we’ll do our best to help you out.

From Shao Chan via email [/p]
 • [p] “The board game and answers on the internet and YouTube videos state that the Assassin can use it’s assassin ability in the Crown of Command. However, in the Digital 5th edition game, the ability cannot be used as far as I can tell.” [/p]
[p]You should be able to use it against the elder dragon! When you sent in this in, us adding in The Frostmarch Classic and the inclusion of the Ice Queen had caused an odd issue where the Assassin couldn’t use their ability against the Ice Queen specifically - turned out that this issue also effected the Elder Dragon. As part of the update we rolled out on May 22nd, this is now fixed, so the Assassin can go back to happily using their ability against bosses.[/p][p][/p][p]ːBlueTalismanː

And that’s the end of this month's update! Don’t forget, if you’ve got questions you want to ask the Nomad team, you can always send your questions to [email protected]. And if you want to keep up to date with everything we’re doing as a studio, you can also follow us everywhere we are online!
