The City Classic - Coming Soon!

[p]Hello Talisman fans! ːTalProToadː[/p][p]We know you’ve all been waiting excitedly for this one - our remastered update for The City Expansion is coming to Talisman: Digital 5th Edition very soon![/p][p]Whenever we’ve opened it up to the community about what expansions you’d like to see, The City is always near the very top of that list. You’ve asked us for it on Steam, on Discord and everywhere else we’re listening, so we know just how excited you all are for this.[/p][p]Between the bustling streets, shady back-alleys and shops full of magical items, The City Classic adds massively to the Talisman: Digital 5th Edition experience.[/p][p]With this being such a beloved expansion, we wanted to take some time to talk through what the process of remastering The City was like, and give you all a look behind the scenes at what we’ve done with the expansion to bring it into 5th Edition for the first time.[/p][p][/p]
Remastering a Fan-Favourite
[p]We originally released the digital version of The City Expansion for Talisman: Digital Edition all the way back in 2015. Matching the positive reception that the physical expansion had received, The City for Talisman: Digital Classic Edition remains one of the highest-rated and beloved expansions from the 4th Edition era.[/p][p]If you’ve not played with any of the remastered expansions we’ve released so far, it’s something we’ve already done twice now. Specifically, we take the original, 4th Edition version of an expansion and rebuild it from the ground up to fit the new 5th Edition ruleset, art style and user experience.[/p][p]For The Reaper and The Frostmarch, we took the original artwork from the cards in that expansion as a starting point to create new artwork that fitted within the 5th Edition style. While this was appreciated by players, it took a massive amount of time from our small art team, and meant that those expansions took far longer to remaster than we originally planned. So, starting with The City Classic, we’re adopting a new approach to how we handle updating the artwork from 4th Edition to 5th Edition, sticking closer to the original artwork while still updating it to fit within the 5th Edition style.[/p][p]This is something we explained in our ‘State of the Game’ update video a while back, where we explained our future plans for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition. And now, we have the results we can show you![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]As you can see, we’ve still managed to update the existing artwork from the original City expansion to fit more with the 5th Edition style, but because the artwork already is a lot closer to the 5th Edition style than the cards in The Reaper and The Frostmarch were, we’ve had to make less changes, which has meant we could release this remaster a lot sooner than we could with our previous two.[/p]
Bringing Characters into the 3D World
[p]One of the biggest changes visually between Talisman: Digital Classic Edition and Talisman: Digital 5th Edition is in how we show your characters on the game board. In Classic Edition, your character would be represented as a small cardboard cutout style standee, using the artwork from the character card. In Digital 5th Edition, we’ve taken the time and effort to render each character in full 3D, matching how their physical figures would appear on an actual Talisman board.[/p][p]Now, for characters from the 5th Edition base game, we had the official physical models to use as a reference - to make sure we accurately represented them in-game. However, there isn’t an official physical release of The City for 5th Edition, so there isn’t an existing model to use as reference, which meant we had to make our own![/p][p]After rendering and creating models for all six City characters, we then had to get these new models checked and approved by the team at Games Workshop. It’s important that we make sure all of the character models look consistent and match the rest of how 5th Edition has been designed - even when those models are digital![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Alongside the 3D models, we also created all-new character artwork for each character in The City Classic, making sure we capture the look and feel of their original 4th Edition artwork while bringing them into the 5th Edition style.[/p][p][/p][p][/p]
Injecting New Decks
[p]The City Classic marks the biggest influx of cards to Talisman: Digital 5th Edition so far in a single expansion. Making sure we properly brought across everything the physical expansion had to offer (while keeping the digital UI clean and readable) was quite the challenge![/p][p]For the hard numbers, The City Classic adds:[/p]
• [p]City Cards (82 cards): The lifeblood of the expansion. Drawn when exploring the City streets, this deck is packed with urban encounters, from corrupt nobles and street thieves to festivals and local events.[/p]
• [p]Wanted Poster Cards (18 cards): Picked up at the City Gate, these give you a bounty to hunt down specific enemy types out in the wider world for a hefty Gold reward.[/p]
• [p]Potion Cards (16 cards): Bought from the Apothecary, these are powerful, unpredictable consumables that can turn the tide of a battle or heal your wounds.[/p]
• [p]Magic Emporium Cards (16 cards) & Armoury Cards (12 cards): Found in their respective shops, these act as a fixed-price menu where wealthy adventurers can outright buy the exact weapons, armour, or magical artifacts they need.[/p]
• [p]Pet Cards (12 cards): Bought at the Menagerie, these aren't just normal Followers. Each Pet offers a highly unique, specific advantage to your character.[/p]
• [p]Stables Cards (8 cards): Spend your coin on Mules to carry your heavy gear, or Warhorses to give you a massive advantage in combat and movement.[/p]
[p]Each of these card types has its own deck that is drawn from dynamically as you visit different shops and regions.[/p][p]With over 160 total cards added in this expansion, the possibilities for customisation using the in-game Deck Editor have been ramped up massively. You can tailor your City experience to be exactly what you want it to be. Want a City filled with nothing but dangerous encounters and traps? You can build that. Want to flood the Apothecary with cheap healing potions? You can do that, too.[/p][p]In fact, if you noticed that we updated the Deck Editor navigation and UI in last month's Change of Fate update... that wasn't a coincidence! We updated navigation through these menus specifically to handle the massive influx of new decks that The City Classic brings to the table, ensuring you can easily mix and match these new cards with your base game and other expansions.[/p][p][/p]

[p][/p][p]We hope you enjoyed this look behind the scenes at how we’ve brought the bustling streets of The City to life in Talisman: Digital 5th Edition. It has been a massive undertaking for the team, but seeing those new 3D models standing outside the Magic Emporium makes it all worth it![/p][p][/p]
Free Cross-Buy for Veteran Players!
[p]We couldn't talk about The City Classic without reminding you about the free DLC upgrade for our veteran players.[/p][p]As a thank you to the community that has supported us for years, if you already own The City expansion for Talisman: Digital Classic Edition, you can receive this new 5th Edition version of the City for free. Once you’ve purchased 5th Edition, all you need to do is ensure you are signed into your free Nomad Account on both the Classic Edition and 5th Edition of the game.[/p][p]If you aren't sure how to do that, don't worry! You can check out our quick and easy guide right here to get yourself ready.[/p][p][/p]
Wishlist The City Classic Today!
[p]The gates are opening very soon. Make sure you head over to the store page right now and hit that Wishlist button so you are notified the exact second the expansion goes live![/p][p][/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink]Until then, you can also join the official Nomad Games Discord, and follow us online in all the places where you can![/p]

The 'Change of Fate' Update is here!

[p]Hi again Talisman fans! ːTalProToadː[/p][p]We are thrilled to announce that the latest major update for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition is officially live on Steam now.[/p][p]We’re calling this one the ‘Change of Fate’ Update.[/p][p]Why? Because this patch is all about giving you total control over your adventure. Whether it’s controlling how the game looks, how you set up your lobby, or even controlling the very dice themselves—this update puts the power of destiny firmly in your hands.[/p][p]If you’re just looking for the headlines, the four big features of the Change of Fate update are:[/p]
• [p]The option to put text back on cards[/p]
• [p]The ability to manually enter your dice rolls, should you wish to do so[/p]
• [p]The ability to save and load different game setup configurations[/p]
• [p]New house rules for Alliances: Fate Beckons to adjust the difficulty[/p]
[p]Late last year, we launched The Anniversary Update for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition, adding a heap of community-requested quality of life features and improvements to the game. If you missed it, you can read about everything it added to the game here. The reception from you all following that update was massively positive and appreciated, and we used that feedback to directly inform how we put together the Change of Fate update.[/p][p]But we’re guessing you all want a deep dive into these features and how they work, so let’s get into it![/p][p][/p]
Text on Cards
[p]We know that for many of you, Talisman is all about the nostalgia of the physical board game. You want to look at the beautiful artwork and read the card itself at the same time, and this is something we heard loud and clear after the game launched both on our social media channels and here on Steam.[/p][p]So, to better recreate that feeling of looking at the cards as they exist physically, we’ve added a new visual option that renders Rule Text directly on the cards. Check it out![/p][p][/p][carousel][/carousel][p][/p][p]This means you can now read the effects, spells, and encounters right on the card face, just like you would if you were sitting at a table. It makes the game feel more tactile, immersive, and authentic. (And don't worry—if you prefer the clean, full-art art view the game had previously, you can toggle this off in the settings!)[/p][p][/p]
Saved Game Setups
[p]With more expansions, characters, and house rules being added to the game, we know that setting up your "perfect lobby" was starting to take a few too many clicks.[/p][p]So, with the Change of Fate update, you can now save and load multiple lobby configurations![/p][p][/p][p]As you can see in the new "Saved Setups" tab, you can name and store your favourite ways to play. Whether it's a "Hard Mode" run with specific House Rules enabled, or a "Game Night" setup with your favourite 4 characters and expansions pre-loaded, you can save it all to a slot. You can name your setups however you like, and use them either locally or online too![/p][p]Next time you want to play, just hit "Load Setup" and you’ll be ready to start the game in seconds. No more toggling menus while your friends wait in the lobby![/p][p][/p]
Alliances Difficulty Options
[p]We’ve heard from players who love the challenge of the Alliances expansion but sometimes feel the pressure of the Doom Tracker kicks in a little too fast. To give you more control over the pacing of your cooperative games, we have added a new House Rule that allows you to delay the doom tracker advancing.[/p][p]This option allows you to set a specific number of Trail Events to ignore before the Doom Tracer starts advancing. Specifically, you set the number of trials that you want to endure before the Doom Tracker starts increasing, so if there are other reasons that the doom tracker could increase it still won't if the player hasn't done enough trials.[/p][p]Once you’ve worked through the Trial Events you set to ignore, the Doom Tracker will begin ticking up as normal—so make sure you use that extra time wisely![/p][p][/p]
Manual Dice Mode
[p]Finally, the feature that gives this update its name. For the ultimate "House Rule" experience, we have added the ability to enable Manual Dice Entry.[/p][p]When this House Rule is active, the game won't roll the dice for you. Instead, you (or the Game Master) can input the specific number you want to "roll."[/p][p]Why add this?[/p]
• [p]Storytelling: Great for content creators or streamers who want to force a specific narrative or funny moment.[/p]
• [p]Testing: Want to see what happens if you land on a specific space? Now you can.[/p]
• [p]Physical Parity: Playing a physical game of Talisman but using the digital version to track the board state? Now you can roll your physical dice and input the result into the game![/p]
[p]This is a feature that Talisman players have been asking for digitally for a long time, so we hope you all appreciate it![/p][p]Something worth mentioning and keeping in mind, is that playing with manual dice entry will prevent you from unlocking achievements and we won’t track your statistics in games with it enabled. We want achievements to still feel like achievements, and rolling a 1 four times in a row during your turn doesn’t feel quite as inconceivable when you can just choose your rolls![/p][p][/p][p][/p]

[p][/p][p]Other Fixes[/p][p]Alongside all these big features, we also have a range of bug fixes included in this update. Check out the full list below![/p]
• [p]Sometimes the 'fight in psychic combat' button would spill out of the box it’s meant to be in - this is now fixed![/p]
• [p]We’ve updated some of the 3D character models to improve their looks.[/p]
• [p]We’ve made a bunch of small tweaks to text content across most languages, tidying up typos and making wordings more clear.[/p]
• [p]We’ve also slightly tweaked the layout of multiple text and buttons across the game to improve visual clarity across the game.[/p]
• [p]In Alliances, sometimes the Corrupted Elder Dragon had their strength and craft choices switched - this is now fixed![/p]
• [p]Previously, quitting out of an Alliances game then choosing to make a new game would sometimes show Endings instead of Trials. This is also now fixed![/p]
• [p]When using the Swordsman’s Parry ability against an Alliances Villain, a loss was being treated as standoff[/p]
• [p]Rarely, when the player attacked an Alliances villain in psychic combat they were forced to use their strength value instead. This is now fixed.[/p]
• [p]The number of Talismans in your custom deck now return to their default amount in the Deck Editor as they should if you’ve edited your deck.[/p]
• [p]We’ve fixed the Reaper NPCs text in the deck browser, as previously it looked odd.[/p]
• [p]If you changed your language settings while looking at a character's description, it wouldn’t always change their description to the new language you’d selected. Now it does![/p]
• [p]The mighty Minotoad was missing descriptions in French and Italian. Personne ne peut arrêter le minotoad ! Même pas en italien ! 🐸[/p]
• [p]Clicking on a card category when using the Deck Editor now jumps you to the first card in that category, to make it easier to navigate the Deck Editor.[/p]
• [p]We’ve also tidied up the card swiper animation in the Deck Editor, to make the overall experience of deck editing a bit smoother[/p]
• [p]The Arena card from The Reaper Classic would occasionally not let the player summon someone - it now works as intended.[/p]
• [p]Previously, all players could sometimes see the next card's name when the Sage was using his ability and were also able to see other players' spells when the Sage used his ability too. This has been fixed, and the Sage will now keep that information to himself.[/p]
• [p]We now treat Alliances: Fate Beckons as a normal expansion, not a separate game in the UI, to keep things more consistent.[/p]
• [p]On some 64bit systems, a warning would randomly appear when playing the game - this has now been fixed.[/p]
[p]We hope you all enjoy this update (we’re working on getting this rolled out on Xbox and PlayStation next!), and we can’t wait to hear what you think about it. So make sure you reach out to us either here on the Steam forums, in reviews or over on our official Discord.[/p][p]And if you’re keen to get your hands on more content in Talisman: Digital 5th Edition, we’re only a short time away from The City Classic launching - our 3rd remastered expansion from Talisman: Digital Classic Edition. So make sure you follow us on all our social channels to hear about it first![/p]

Classic Movement House Rule Patch

[p]Hi Talisman fans! ːTalProToadː[/p][p]We've got a fresh patch for Talisman: Digital 5th Edition that has just been rolled out, with a new house rule added and a bunch of fixes and improvements to the game! First up, let's talk about that new house rule...[/p][p][/p]
Classic Movement House Rule
[p]One of the new rules added in the 5th Edition of Talisman was the ability to spend fate to move up to 6 spaces (as long as you moved to somewhere another player wasn't already standing). While this adds a lot more movement options to the game and makes fate more useful in general, there are some players who have asked for the option to play the 'Classic' way when it comes to moving.[/p][p]So, we've added a house rule that removes the ability to pay fate to choose where you move.[/p][p]Enjoy! ːBlueTalismanː[/p][p][/p]
Fixes and Improvements
[p]Alongside this new house rule, this patch also includes a range of different fixes and improvements to Talisman: Digital 5th Edition, including:[/p]
• [p]We now prevent players from using custom decks in tutorials (as this would massively break the tutorials!) [/p]
• [p]In Alliances: Fate Beckons, we fixed the sound effect and the visual effects for Villains being drawn persisting after they have been drawn. They'll now stop as they should![/p]
• [p]We fixed a bug where players would sometimes not be able to choose a character when respawning[/p]
• [p]Fixed a crash that specifically happened when the AI went to choose a new character [/p]
• [p]We've fixed two achievements that weren't triggering properly. Specifically, 'Share the Glory' and 'There Are Other Ways'[/p]
• [p]Previously, if you mashed the online resume button too much, there was a chance you'd get put back into the wrong online lobby. This doesn't happen anymore, so mash away if you must.[/p]
• [p]We spotted a few memory leaks, which would sometimes lead to crashes. We've patched those up![/p]
• [p]Sometimes you'd be unable to select a card after casting Metamorph - this has been fixed! [/p]
• [p]Some players pointed out that the 'Doom' music in Alliances: Fate Beckons was too loud, so we've rebalanced it.[/p]
• [p]We've stopped the Space Tooltips dialog extending beyond the Options menu border[/p]
• [p]We fixed an odd issue that would sometimes occur when changing languages on the main menu, where pieces of art on the menu would disappear[/p]
[p][/p][p]As always, thank you for the support you've given both us and Talisman: Digital 5th Edition. We're still working hard on getting The City Classic to you, so stay tuned for updates! ːheartː[/p]
