Interlude Patch: Flip The Script

New Movement Spell - Unfold
[p][/p][p]Mental gymnastics? Watch this![/p][p]Keep an eye on your foes as you soar backwards through the air with Unfold![/p][p]This acrobatic Movement Spell flings you out of danger, granting a brief moment of invulnerability, and offers many pages to build more style into your aerial feats![/p][p]Drop deadly mines, craft a winning floor routine, and perform some high-damage trick shots to style on your foes! [/p][p][/p]
New Maps
[p][/p][p]Roots and shoots and roads...[/p][p]Venture to fresh combat arenas: Sequoia and Outlook! Fight beneath the tall trees, making use of long-range cover for a forest fight to be remembered.[/p][p]In Outlook, weave between pillars of an ancient structure - where do these old roads lead? Battle the Torn in a time-worn relic of elsewhere![/p][p] [/p]
Spend Early, Spend Often - Tutorial Spell Changes
[p][/p][p]Note: This will unlock Callback for all Scribes, while re-locking Swoop![/p][p]We're making some initial changes to the new player experience with adjustments to the Tutorial Chapter! [/p][p]The order of some elements has changed to give Scribes more time to understand the Signature Ink choice they make. Additionally, we're making Callback the new default Spender Spell! [/p][p]This gives new Scribes a more versatile starting spell set to take into their first Of Scribes and Torn run - Callback's area damage capabilities are a smoother compliment to Jot! [/p][p] [/p]

New Spender Spell - Spoil
[p][/p][p]How 'bout them apples?[/p][p]Brand new to the spellbook, Scribes get to live a fresh, ripe, totally-not-rotten fairytale fantasy with Spoil! [/p][p]"Offer" your foes a scrumptious bite of a Spoiled Apple and watch as they share their positive reviews with nearby pals! These Apples are tasty, healthy, and only get better with a hefty helping of Pages of Power![/p][p]Aim true while flinging bushel after bushel of this sticky, explosive 1-Cost Spender... and find out just how hungry the Torn really are.[/p][p][/p]
Visual Intensity Settings
[p][/p][p]Details and details and details![/p][p]We're introducing Visual Intensity Settings based on your feedback! These new options allow you to further customize your experience for increased performance and legibility both solo and in multiplayer. [/p][p]In pursuit of these changes, our VFX system has had performance improvements across the board (even without using these new settings!). [/p][p]Player spells and effects now have a Reduced and Minimal VFX setting.[/p][p]Enemy abilities and effects now have a Reduced and Minimal VFX setting.[/p][p]There are a lot of visuals in Vellum - please let us know how your experience with these new settings goes![/p][p][/p]
Raid-Specific Spell Tuning and Balance
[p][/p][p]The flexible spellcraft of Scribes is a complex curriculum. Time to teach the Torn Lords a lesson or two.[/p][p]With the rise of the Torn Lords, we've found (with the help of plenty of feedback!) the disparity between spell damage across the different loadout options in Raids is larger than we'd like! [/p][p]The lower number of pages available in Raids combined with the Boss/Single-Target heavy encounter profiles, has resulted in some spells falling behind in power/excitement. With Interlude Patch: Spoilers, we're pumping up the damage output of several spells when damaging Raid Bosses only. [/p][p]Foil, Punctuate, Enkindle, Quip, Blossom, Wordsmith, and Passage will now deal 20 - 66% increased damage to Raid Bosses (details in the patch notes below). Let us know how these feel![/p][p][/p]

[p][/p][p]Finding a cozy nook in the Illuminated Library to keep reading![/p][p]With The Grey Area, The Forgery, and Yonder now complete along with the Early Access journey - we're going to be adjusting our cadence of content! We're incredibly proud of the speed, quality, and quantity of Vellum's Major Chapters and Interlude Patches thus far... especially when we're operating as such a small team (if you're active in the Discord - you've likely heard from all of us directly by this point!)[/p][p]Since EA launch, we typically added new content about every two weeks, alternating between Interludes and Major Chapters. Of course, some updates had adjusted timings for major life events and bigger-scope items (especially as the Library Update, Raids, and 1.0 approached). [/p][p]As a small team, we'll remain incredibly flexible (today's patch includes feedback from this morning - we love this!), but we'll be targeting a few more weeks between updates and more Interludes between Major Chapters. Vellum 1.1: Beyond - Now Live!

[p]The time has come to face The Tangent Lord - welcome to Vellum 1.1![/p][p]This end-game focused Major Chapter brings Scribes to the frigid realm of Yonder! In 1.0, we dove deep into the beautiful terror of The Grey Area (home of the Ravings) and the grand machinations of The Forgery (lair of the Splices) - and now, the Tangents take their turn![/p][p]As always, you can chart the condensed Vellum journey below - or see the full timeline in game![/p][p][/p][p][/p][h2]Last Lord of the Torn - Third Time's The Charm[/h2][p][/p][p]Deep in the cold reaches of curiosity itself lies the realm of Yonder - home of the Tangents! [/p][p]As befitting a dangerous lair of a Torn Lord - Yonder holds mechanically complex encounters to tackle solo or with your local book club and friends. [/p][p]Normal difficulty unlocks after reaching Attunement 20 and completing The Grey Area and The Forgery. Yonder is built to challenge Scribes in the end-game: maximum Ink Level and strong build-making recommended. For Hard Mode... you'll need to make every drop of ink count.[/p][p]Like the previous Raids, Scribes will venture through 4 Major Encounters and 2 Vignettes - with typical runs targeting 30 - 45 minutes. That said - time can be a tricky companion![/p][p][/p][h2]Yonder - The Tangent Plane[/h2][p][/p][p]Yonder is the plane of Tangents: an ethereal, hauntingly cold realm devoted to curiosity itself. Vellum 1.1: Beyond - Arrives June 20th!

A couple weeks after launch, Scribes welcomed In Circulation, an Interlude Patch with a new movement spell, QOL changes, and so much more! [/p][p]Since then, we've been hard at work designing the next climactic battles between Scribes and Torn - leading up to a confrontation with the final Torn Lord! Ink and quill at the ready, Scribes...[/p][h3]Vellum 1.1: Beyond releases June 20th![/h3][p][/p][h2]Play Beyond, Vellum's 1.1 update on Steam - June 20th, 2025![/h2][p]Explore the edges of curiosity in Yonder, the realm of the Tangent Lord! [/p][p]As with the other two raids, Yonder will be available in Normal and Hard modes with intense, mechanically complex encounters. You'll have unlimited attempts per run and can tackle these challenges solo or in multiplayer.[/p][p][/p]
