Happy Holidays

Hello!

It is that month of the year again! The holiday season is upon us, and as in previous years, we’ll take a brief break. R&R is on Eugen’s Christmas menu.

Before we continue, we are now celebrating our fourth holiday break with you. Four years in a row; how the time flies! Batteries will be recharged, and we’ll be back in the new year - 2023 - before you know it!

We don’t want to leave you completely empty-handed. We realize that the recent weeks have been quiet, but the team has worked hard on a new Steel Division 2 patch!
A new patch
We are still completing the next major expansion to launch for Steel Division 2, Blood Feud in Transylvania. It is coming soon, but we are putting on the finishing touches, including the last localisations. However, for you not to wait until after the holidays, we decided to release the accompanying patch now.

Read what the new patch brings by following the link below!
What can you expect in 2023?
So, as mentioned, Steel Division 2: Blood Feud in Transylvania is going to be dropping in the near future. A release date is on hold, but the moment we know more, we’ll share it with you!

Don’t forget to submit your Czech or Slovak name to be included in the upcoming Nemesis: Siege of Dunkirk mini-expansion.

Follow the link here.

There are some specific rules, which you can read about by checking the above link. The thread will be kept open until shortly before Nemesis: Siege of Dunkirk’s release. There is still time to submit your name!

And… that’s not all. We have Nemesis: Siege of Dunkirk in the pipeline. Even more (big) content is planned for Steel Division 2. More news to come in 2023!
Until next year
That’s it for this DevBlog (and this year!). We will see each other on the other side, commander. The first week of January sees our return to the offices. It has been a pleasure. Let’s make 2023 a kick-ass year!

From the whole Eugen Systems team: we wish you happy holidays and all the best for 2023.

December News

Hello commanders,

We hope you have been well. Heading into the final month of the year, we have a couple of small but exciting tidbits of Steel Division 2 news to share with you.

Keep reading to find out more!
Steel Division: Blood Feud in Transylvania
The first news to drop concerns the next major expansion, Steel Division 2: Blood Feud in Transylvania. As we mentioned in last week’s DevBlog, video briefings and voiceovers are done, and the testing of the Army General campaign is in full swing.

We can also report that division balance, models, assets, and illustrations - these critical components have now been finished. We are still working on the localization for the expansion in the various languages supported. A release date for Steel Division 2: Blood Feud in Transylvania is being planned as we speak!

We will get back to you as soon as we know more. In the meantime, the Strike Team will soon receive the go-ahead to stream the full expansion! So keep a close watch on your favorite streamer.
A new long-range artillery model
As pointed out to us by a community member on our Steam forums, historically, the U.S. 3rd Armored Division had a special artillery formation attached from mid-July 1944, almost uninterrupted until the end of the war. This was the 991st Field Artillery Battalion, equipped with the M12 GMC, which hosted an old WW1 French gun, the GPF 155mm. This piece, in its original towed variant, will also be found in the Allied and Axis arsenal, in the upcoming Nemesis: Siege of Dunkirk.

The old French artillery piece was mounted on a modified M3 (Lee) tank chassis, turning this venerable gun into a self-propelled unit. The model for the M12 GMC was long ago completed for Steel Division: Normandy ‘44; we decided it would be worthwhile to add it to Steel Division 2. The U.S. 3rd Armored Division will receive this new unit, where commanders can deploy it in Phase B and C as a “poor man’s Hummel,” so to speak. It will be very similar to the German unit, though with a lower Rate of Fire and less ammo, but with a longer range and a more heavily armored structure.
Join the Czechoslovak Army!
The time has come for you to enlist! With the upcoming Nemesis: Siege of Dunkirk, we get back to the old Eugen tradition of granting the community the chance to add their (real) names to the game. These names will appear as a specific nation’s squad leader. Each name will either have to be of Czech or Slovak origins!

There are some specific rules, which you can read about in this dedicated post here, but please see below for an abridged recap.

In short:
 • We randomly pick names from a nation’s list. We cannot attribute a name to a specific unit.
 • You can only submit a family or surname. We don’t pick first names.
 • One person, one name.
 • The name must be fitting to the nation. We aim for authenticity and realism, after all.
 • Don’t comment on other people’s names.
 • Check other names to see if yours isn’t already proposed.
 • Don’t bother being insulting or funny or an edgelord - we will carefully review all names for their specific language.

Some News ... plus Dunkirk Update

Hello commanders!

Yes, it’s been a while since our last contact. We offer our sincere apologies! However, with this DevBlog, we don’t come empty-handed.

Continue reading to discover the latest happenings for Steel Division 2.
Development keeps apace
The various Steel Division 2 projects keep churning, even if the pace might be slower. The team is hard at work testing, bug checking, fixing, sharing improvements, etc.

Now, as you know, the Eugen team is small, and we are knee-deep on various projects at the same time, including Steel Divison 2’s “younger” cousin WARNO. This means that our developers need to shift between tasks and games. And invariable, some delays creep in. Rest assured that our designers are hard at work on Steel Division 2. This includes the next major expansion, Steel Division 2: Blood Feud in Transylvania and Nemesis: Siege of Dunkirk.

We can lift the tip of the veil in today’s DevBlog.
Development keeps apace
First one up is Blood Feud in Transylvania: all the video briefings and voice acting is done and integrated into the game. We are still testing the Army General campaign, for both sides, and the Strike Team is looking at the Oarba map as we speak.

Meanwhile, we are making good progress on Siege of Dunkirk with all the models having been finished. However, the rather painstaking work of reskinning the existing models still needs to be done. The Allied battlegroup, CIABG, already exists in alpha form, with all units and equipment, but needs some more balancing and finetuning. Festung Dunkirchen will soon benefit from the same treatment.
Some more details on CIABG
So, how is the Czechoslovakian Independent Armoured Brigade Group actually shaping up? The battlegroup’s main strengths are the TANK and AA categories, backed up by solid RECON and ART. while INF and AT, on the other hand, are below average.

 • Infantry is clearly the division’s Achilles heel, with only one card of veteran Czech Motostřelci (motorized rifles) and half a card of Ženisté (assault engineers). The rest of the soldiers are eager but hastily trained FFO squads. These are French partisans retrained for regular army use, the name standing for Forces Françaises de l’Ouest. To round out this category, some British Converted Gunners units can also be deployed.
 • A new unit added are Converted RAF squads. These are not-needed admin personnel and ground staff from the British RAF with minimum training. Like their Luftwaffe counterparts, these servicemen are not thrilled with their assigned frontline role and carry the Disheartened trait. Yet, unlike the other crews, they are better equipped with old (and rather cool looking) Vickers K LMG taken from elderly bi-planes (and resurrected from Steel Division: Normandy 44).
 • While it might lack boots on the ground, the CIABG has a lot of armor: from Cromwell, Stuart light tanks, a few heavy-hitting Fireflies, as well as British Churchill tanks. The Allied’s ubiquitous Sherman is not present though. All AT guns are of the towed variant - no tank destroyers can be found in the battlegroup’s arsenal.
 • In terms of the airforce, Czechoslovakian Spitfire Mk.Vb and IXc will provide the main fighter screen.
 • British recon Spitfire and Spitbomber will also be featured, as well as several CS Typhoon variants (rockets, bombs, etc.).
 • The occasional heavier bomber support will come in the form of Mitchel II (the American B-25C in British service. This a new unit, not having seen action since Steel Division: Normandy 44.
