Slough Creek...Bit by Bit (Devblog)

We are cranking away on Slough Creek, making good progress every day. So for this week’s devblog, I thought it might be interesting to look at the build notes from a private beta build earlier this week, which had a variety of improvements and refinements to gameplay, animal AI, and the 3D world. Some represent slow, steady progress on our feature list and some are revisions based on feedback from our private beta testers, who have been playing the game intensively for several weeks now. So here’s a peek at what Tommi, Andrei, and I were up to this week. (Mikko is enjoying a well-deserved vacation but will be back next week to tackle some multiplayer improvements before diving back into the multiplayer component of Slough Creek. George has been busy on a secret new feature, and Susan been keeping busy with social media, office tasks, and animal behavior research.)

WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition is available now for PC/Mac on Steam and itch.io, as Early Access. The game currently includes Episode 1: Amethyst Mountain, Lost River: Classic, and multiplayer mode in both maps. Slough Creek is in development! The mobile version will come after the game (including Slough Creek) is completed on PC/Mac platforms. The next episode, Tower Fall (DLC) will follow. We do not announce specific release dates. We will release them when they are ready!

Parenting Tools (Devblog)

Parenting is hard -- and it's even harder when you can't communicate with your family members. As we've been beta testing the upcoming Slough Creek episode, we've realized that we need to add more ways for the player to communicate a few essential things to their mate and to their pups. These include commands to tell your mate to come on home (if they're out hunting or maintaining territory), or invite them to join you on such an excursion, or go back to the den on their own if you're both out and about in your territory. Similarly, we've added commands to tell your pups to go inside the den or come on out. Today's video looks at how those are shaping up in the game.

We're also finally adding hotkeys for the Emotes panel, with a key for each emote in the Favorites panel. You can also assign keys, as you like. This will be included in the next patch, coming in a few weeks. The mate commands are only in Slough Creek, since your mate sticks with you until you have a den and all the demands of raising your family.

Slow Creek (Devblog)

It may seem slow, but we are actually making great progress on Slough Creek. We still have plenty to do but the main quests and functionality are working well. Tommi and George have spent countless hours playing, calibrating, and tweaking to get Slough Creek ready for the next levels of testing. Currently we have a small group of our core beta testers intensively playing the game, finding bugs, and making suggestions. It’s exciting (and terrifying) to finally reveal Slough Creek to others and we are happy to hear they say it is fun to play!

Why don’t we share release dates? Well, we don’t have to! And we don’t want to put that kind of pressure on our team. Unlike games that have funders requiring official release dates – which inevitably mean crazy crunch time to meet that promise (or miss the date and then make everyone mad), we are free to just keep working and release things when they are ready. We appreciate everyone’s patience and appreciate you following our progress and cheering us on. Slough Creek is coming!

Patch 1.05d Released!

1.0.5d - released 23 October 2020

IMPROVEMENTS:
* Halloween decorations in Lost River (and a few in Amethyst Mountain).
* A few more controller improvements.
* In multiplayer, for client players, turning animals will turn to look in the direction of the turn (was previously only for hosts).
* Reduced fox spawning rate a bit.
* Changed texture on frozen creeks.
* Made some reductions in memory load.

BUGS FIXED:
* MacOS: Pack Territories overlay in World Map should now appear properly for everyone on MacOS.
* Boulders don't accumulate snow.
* Issues with small pond near Amethyst cliffs in fall and winter.
* Rebinding Bite/Eat/Drink button to Left Mouse Button causes problems.
* Competitors are delayed by 4-6 seconds after breaking free from a bite-hold before they can attack. (Bug fixed but there are other delays that keep them from attacking instantaneously.)
