Weapons Are a Slayer's Best Friend

When the city you live in is overrun with flesh-eating freaks, having adequate protection is critical to staying off the menu.

Luckily, in Dead Island 2, Los Angeles (or, as the locals call it, HELL-A) is littered with all kinds of weaponry to equip you for the task at hand.

Like to get up close and personal? We’ve got knuckle dusters, katars, and bear claws to keep you satisfied.

Fancy yourself a bit of a swordsman? Grab a katana or a claymore and start hacking the rotten arms and legs off zombies (just be sure to finish them off).

Tired of smelling stale zombie breath all the time? You’ll find pistols, submachine guns, assault rifles, and even nail guns, all perfect for dismantling the undead from afar.

Whether you like to slice, dice, maim, decapitate, or dismember your foes, there’s a weapon for you! And you’re sure to have a great time using it.
Need a Little Extra Kick?
But the fun doesn’t stop there!

If the weapon you’re rocking isn’t quite quenching your thirst for blood, you can hit one of the many workbenches around the city to equip all kinds of perks and modifications.

Perks can make your weapons reload faster, more durable, and hit that extra bit harder.

Try fitting your sledgehammer with a caustic modification so that each blow melts flesh while crushing the bones beneath.

Or attach a shock mod to your machete so that you zap zombies with each slice.
Legendary Weapons
Certain quests in Dead Island 2 will have you searching HELL-A for the rarest-tier loot.

These missions aren’t easy, but the deadly rewards they yield make them more than worthwhile.

A flaming war scythe and even a handheld grenade launcher are just a couple of the weapons you’ll be able to get your hands on.
The Ultimate Weapon
Oh, and we forgot to mention: you’ve been bitten, and the virus that has turned everyone else into mindless cannibals is coursing through your veins.

But you haven’t gone full zombie mode – quite the opposite -- you’re managing to keep your humanity (so far) with a few extra boons.

What does this mean? As long as your meter’s full, you can call on your inner zombie by launching into Fury Mode anytime.

When activated, you can rip enemies apart with your bare hands, smash the ground like an angry gorilla to topple anyone nearby, spit caustic acid pools, unleash ear-bleedingly loud screams, and much more.

[h5]No matter what your preferred method is, you’ll have a blast wading through hordes of the undead in Dead Island 2. [/h5]

Hell-A and its locals

There’s nowhere else in the world quite like Los Angeles, and that doesn’t change just because the beaches and boulevards are over-run with walking, crawling biters.

In Dead Island 2 you can explore it’s best-loved areas and sights, from the movie star mansions and celebrity pads of Bel-Air to the sand and surf of Venice Beach. Keep an eye out for makeshift weapons and other useful stuff in the palatial homes and local stores. You’re going to need them!

But why not go beyond the usual tourist traps? The suburbs of Beverly Hills are full of fine folks who could use a little help with nuisance neighbours. Or take time out to sip cocktails by the pool at the glamorous Halperin Hotel. Make sure you check the rooms for useful materials and weapon blueprints.
You could visit the legendary Monarch Studios and see the sound stages where classic sci-fi movies and hit sitcoms are made. Maybe there’s a part for you fighting zombies in a bloodthirsty action sequence. Make the most of the effects and props!

When you’re done, head out to Hollywood. See where the stars hang out and visit its iconic movie theatres. Or ride the metro out to Santa Monica, and stroll along the boardwalk, slaying any zombies that spoil the sunset views.

Hurt and hungry? You’ll find Energy Drinks and Protein Bars Grab in the local restaurants – if you don’t get bitten first. While you’re there, enjoy the thrill rides on the world-famous pier, or get your adrenaline rush the old-fashioned way, slashing and smashing through the walking dead.

Need to crash? There are great hotels on Ocean Avenue, and you can pick up everything you need while you explore one of Hell A’s finest shopping malls. Just be sure to give your fellow shoppers a wide berth.
Meet the locals
Of course, you’re not going to get the city of angels to yourself. Everywhere you go you’ll be hounded by its shambling Walkers; your classic slow-moving, mindless Zeke. Bash them, thrash them, and lure them into your own ingenious traps.

You might have a tougher time with the Runners. These quick-moving, freshly turned zombies never want to play by the rules, and they’ve got the speed and the aggression to close in fast.

What’s worse, the arrival of the army and emergency workers onto the streets of LA has inadvertently amped up the danger factor. Think zombie civilians are bad enough? How about zombies in hazmat suits and riot suits that make even harder to kill?

Who are those undead dudes with the tanks of skin-melting corrosive fluid? And watch out for the mindless zombie grunts packing high explosives. They’re hell-bent on going out with a bang.

Worse, there are stranger forms of zombie out there with all kinds of weird mutations. Some come buzzing with swarming insects that you won’t easily swat away. Others are determined to hit you with a nasty shock.
Apex predators
If you’re really unlucky, you’ll run into LA’s Apex Zombies, ranging from the Crusher -musclebound creeps with a superhuman slam - to the bloated, acid-vomiting Slobber.

Steer well clear of the Butcher. This guy’s got razer-sharp bones where his arms ought to be. If you haven’t mastered your block and dodge moves, you might end up as zombie chow.

Stay even further away from the gruesome Burster. These dangerously explosive throbbing humanoid pustules could blow at any minute.

And keep an ear out for the Screamer. These karaoke-killing uber-zombies will do more than hurt your ears with their sonic shockwave shrieks. They’ll slow you down just when you’re in reach of their hungry zombie chums.
Enjoy Hell-A
All that’s just a flavour of what you can expect in the city of flowers and sunshine as the starlet and hipsters turn into gut-munching ghouls and the streets run red with blood. Even greater horrors await you in the malls and mansions, so be sure to pack your biggest weapons and your most brutal finishing moves.

Hell-A is waiting for you, and its locals are always primed to party hard.

Dead Island 2: Choose your Slayer!

Dead Island 2 features a cast of six playable slayers. To help you choose who you want to take on the undead as, we’ve put this handy blog together.
Below, you’ll find the lowdown on who they are and what their play style is like.
Born and raised in LA, Amy is a young go-getting athlete with the goal of capturing paralympic gold firmly in her sights. Years of performing at the highest level of her sport have left her with the reflexes and agility needed to run circles around these undead chumps, but don’t let that fool you, she’s never one to shy away from a fight.

[h5]Why play as Amy?[/h5]

Amy is perfect for players who want to be quick on their feet, chaining dashes and attacks together to chip away at zombie’s health before putting them out of their misery. She also has high critical hit damage, meaning she can often drop zombies in a few shots.

Born and raised across the Pond in Brixton, London, Jacob had a successful career as a banker before deciding to trade it all in and pursue a life as a professional stuntman in Tinsel Town. This cheeky chap manages to keep a level head in the hairiest of situations, but he can throw down with any flesh muncher at a moment’s notice—and still look effortlessly cool while doing so.

[h5]Why play as Jacob?[/h5]

Jacob has the most health out of all the slayers meaning you can get close to zombies and whale on them to your heart’s content. You also don’t need to worry about him running out of gas, as he has stamina to boot.

Hailing from County Cork, Ireland, Dani left the Emerald Isle in search of adventure and partly to get away from her very traditional family. Never one to follow the crowd, she found herself at home in the punk scene, gracing the mosh pits across the city with her presence. She recently joined a local roller derby team, which she’s found to be the perfect way to let out some pent-up aggression.

[h5]Why play as Dani?[/h5]

Having the highest stamina makes Dani an unstoppable wrecking machine that can administer heavy blows without tiring. She also boasts impressive health stats, so you can relentlessly smash, stab, and maim zombies without care.

Hailing from Fresno California, Ryan is an exotic dancer with a sense of humor dryer than The Golden State’s climate. Performing under the stage name “The Big Hose” – due to his firefighter attire – Ryan often finds himself working under the bright lights of Los Angeles. Years of keeping himself in shape –mainly so that he can entertain bachelorette parties with his dancing pecs – makes him a formidable opponent for any zombie foolish enough to get in his way.

[h5]Why play as Ryan?[/h5]

Ryan has the best defensive stats in the game, which means he can block and repel zombies whenever they get too close. He also has high resistance to elemental damage such as electricity, fire, and caustic.

A motorcycle trick rider and mechanic, Carla was born in LA but lived a nomadic lifestyle prior to the outbreak. Usually covered in engine grease, years of turning wrenches -- and her preference for free weights over Pilates -- mean she’d probably kick your ass in an arm wrestle. Not one to dwell on a bad situation, she brings an infectiously positive attitude to the zompocalypse and can often be heard giggling in delight while dispatching the undead.

[h5]Why play as Carla?[/h5]

Out of all six slayers, Carla is the most resistant to elemental damage. If zombies are on fire, electrified, or even spitting acid, you need not worry; she’s got the situation handled. She also has high defence stats just in case they get close.

The hustler with a heart of gold, Bruno is LA’s very own Robin Hood. He targets the scammers and corporate grifters of the world to protect those lower down the food chain. Blessed with a sharp wit and even sharper reflexes, he’s always one step ahead of his opponent, which is how he’s managing to stay alive in HELL-A.

[h5]Why play as Bruno?[/h5]

The man with all the luck, Bruno has the best critical hit rate of all six slayers. He’s also incredibly agile, which allows him to dash out of the way, reposition, and launch potentially massive damage off-angle attacks at zombies.

Whoever you pick, we know that you’ll have a blast painting the streets of Hollywood red with zombie guts.
