Operative Profile - Toxin

Greetings Operatives!

Welcome back to another Operative Profile, our series of articles exploring the weapons, skills and abilities of the different Operatives you'll be playing as in Lemnis Gate. We will also be discussing some of the lore and backstory that have guided their lives up to this point, and maybe even diving into some of their likes and dislikes. The team is made up of highly trained, highly specialized individuals, from soldiers to scientists, that have been brought together by Lemnis Industries to help save humanity from utter extinction.

This week we're introducing you to Toxin, a former environmental activist who dominates the battlefield by using toxic materials to create traps and then can quickly disengage using a short range teleporter. She is a lean, green, environmentally conscientious machine, and we can't wait to see what you think of her.

Ruolan Fang, a.k.a. Toxin, grew up in China and was a frequent contributor to furthering the green movement before joining Lemnis Industries' Operatives. In addition to her work alongside various environmental organizations, Toxin eventually took a keen interest in bio-weaponry after joining a classified unit of a Special Operations team, giving her experience in combat as well as weapons manufacturing and engineering.

In her down time, Toxin enjoys watching science documentaries to decompress and stay up to date on new developments in the scientific world. It also allows her to improve her critical thinking skills. Toxin is an avid gamer with a preference for fighting games, and will often challenge other Operatives to matches now and then. She remains Lemnis Industries' reigning champion in "Road Pugilist 3". Her quarters always smell great thanks to all the scented candles she's constantly burning. Other Operatives believe it's to mask the smell from her equipment.

Her work with collecting and compressing pollutants inspired Toxin to create her Tox Cannon weapon. Toxic material is stored in tanks on Toxin's back and then funneled into the cannon itself via a series of tubes and pumps. The cannon then compresses it into projectiles, which fire at high speed. While the poisonous projectiles don't do a lot of damage on impact, they will coat the ground in acidic and poisonous material, creating a small area that will continuously damage anyone who steps in it. Toxin herself is immune to these effects, thanks to her specially adapted protective suit and mask.

Rounding out Toxin's arsenal is her Displacer, a little something she cooked up after coming under Lemnis Industries' payroll. This small throwable object acts as a short range teleporter, quickly shifting Toxin's position to wherever it lands. It's a highly valuable tool for moving Toxin in and out of combat or between engagement zones.

Toxin's main value on the battlefield lies in her ability to use the Tox Cannon for area control. She can easily move between skirmishes thanks to her Displacer, meaning you can use Toxin to really control the battlefield and deny critical pathways the opponent might be using!

How you want to approach each situation depends on the round and the Game Mode you're playing. A blanket of toxic material near mission objectives will usually go a long way, but we also recommend finding tight areas on the map where the poison can cause a little extra damage to your opponent's operatives.

If you deploy Toxin in the first round of a match, placing Toxic Materials in any areas you suspect your opponent will want to use is likely the best strategy. Mid-match she can be used to pick off stragglers you might not have taken out previously, for example by closing off any escape routes for low-health enemies. The same strategy is also viable in the later rounds of a match, but be careful: Toxin's projectiles also damages her teammates, so watch where you spray it!

These basic strategies are just the tip of the iceberg, and there are numerous other ways you can utilize Toxin in a given match. With skill and planning you can paint your enemies into a corner and then instantly escape from their eventual counterattacks. We hope you will experiment and figure out new and interesting ways to deploy this Operative.

We hope you've enjoyed this introduction to Ruolan Fang, a.k.a. Toxin. Out of everything she can do, what stood out to you? Are you already thinking of ways you can dominate the battlefield using Toxic Materials? Let us know in the comments below.

Entering the Loop: The Story of Lemnis Gate

Welcome Operatives, to our third Entering the Loop article!

This week we're taking a look at the game's lore to give you a brief overview of what's guiding the motivations of Lemnis Industries and the team of deep space operatives. If you're a fan of science fiction stories and time travel, this is definitely one to read!

In the not too distant future, humanity is facing extinction. A designer DNA sequence meant to neuter and reduce violent tendencies in household pets has rendered several mammals, including humans, infertile. Medical experts promised a solution and the world held its breath. As time passed, no solution was forthcoming.

With the medical option not working, governments across the globe turned to other potential solutions, gathering the top minds of their generation to formulate a plan. Eventually the green light was given to the Lemnis Initiative, a collaboration between all the world's governments and Lemnis Industries, a deep rooted private research and development company.

When the terrible news of the world's infertility spread, Lemnis Industries was one of the many companies who stepped up and offered their services. Their groundbreaking plan to prevent human extinction was met by insurmountable relief. Lemnis Industries has been at the forefront of technology for decades, and their current project represents their greatest scientific accomplishments: The Lemnis Gate.

The vision was grand. Nothing of this magnitude had ever been undertaken before. There was nothing to lose, and the math and physics seemed to hold up.

The Lemnis Gate is a name given to a bubble of space around Earth, isolated by a mesh network of accelerators positioned on neighbouring, off-world sites. Once activated, the network will isolate and sever a region of space, propelling everything inside backwards in time by around 50 years. The world will revert to how it was 50 years ago, but with one key difference: Lemnis Gate pioneers will have left three beacons containing vital data that will warn humanity about what lies ahead, just outside the space the Lemnis gate occupies. This message to the past will be unaffected by the time displacement, transmitting a warning message to the earth in the past as mankind's last chance at survival.

So far the project has been in development for several years, and over 85% of the off-world gate sites are operational. However, a troubling side effect has become apparent: Localised pockets of space have become prematurely severed, fracturing the regular flow of time and causing distortions in reality. Parallel universes have begun to intersect and overlap. It turns out this isn't the only version of earth working on a Lemnis Gate project! The frequency of incidents have increased the closer the Lemnis Gate comes to completion.

Teams of operatives from parallel universes are now competing across the different off-world sites in an attempt to be the one who activates their Lemnis Gate network first. Only one reality can ultimately be successful. It's up to Lemnis Industries' highly-trained operatives who were recruited to scout, secure and maintain the off-world sites and defend them from attack. If successful, humanity's extinction will have been averted.

Disrupt the past; Change the future.

Operative Profile - Striker

Greetings Operatives!

Welcome back to another Operative Profile, our series of articles exploring the weapons, skills and abilities of the operatives you'll be playing as in Lemnis Gate.

Meet Julio Cruz, a.k.a. Striker, the team's meticulous marksman who removes his targets from the battlefield with lethal and pinpoint accuracy. This former assassin has some skeletons in his closet, but is hoping to redeem himself.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Striker was born in Puerto Cabezas in Nicaragua, and discovered at an early age that he possessed incredible marksmanship abilities. His aim with any type of projectile was excellent and he would often use his talents to play pranks on both friends and strangers.

As an adult, he would eventually turn his ability towards darker pursuits. Realising he could use his expert marksmanship skills to earn vast sums of money, Cruz entered the clandestine world of assassination and quickly became a top level hired gun. He would command millions of dollars per hit, but was eventually caught during the one job he chose to do for free: assassinating a foreign dictator guilty of countless war crimes. With humanity's potential extinction looming, and a recent pardon for his crimes, Cruz is hoping to redeem himself by saving the world.

Striker's main weapon is the Zero-Drop Rifle, a high powered long-range gun that fires dense projectiles at great speed. The rifle's scope helps Striker maintain greater focus on his target, letting him pick off any target with pinpoint accuracy. He boasts that he actually doesn't need it, claiming to be able to hit a target from space if he had a weapon powerful enough, but he hasn't been able to prove it... Yet!

After testing Cruz' marksmanship, Lemnis Industries' scientists discovered the secret behind his excellent aim. By selectively activating his body's fight or flight response, Striker can heighten his senses, improve his reaction speeds, and alter his perception of time. For a few brief seconds, everything seems to move incredibly slowly, and he can easily pick his targets and take them out. Through combat training with Kapitan, Striker has been able to hone this Ripple ability further, making him an even more lethal combatant in the field.

As you've probably guessed by now, Striker's main role on the team is as a long-range, high damage dealing sniper. By combining his main weapon and Ripple ability you can quickly take control of the battlefield by removing enemy combatants from the loop.

Given his highly specialized role as a damage dealer, we recommend keeping Striker on standby until midway to late in the match. Deploying him in the first round is an unconventional strategy, but it could pay off if you're able to predict your enemy's location. You can fire off a few shots where you think the enemy will be in subsequent rounds, causing them to change their own strategy or removing them from the loop entirely. If enemy operatives have control of the battle in later rounds, using Striker to remove them from the timeline can let you quickly regain control.

Before deployment it's highly important to find the map's best vantage point to use as a sniping area. This will depend on the map, of course, but we recommend anywhere high up that offers an unobstructed view of the battlefield. For a map like Quarry, any of the walkways or roofs should work fine. Maps like The Arbor have fewer high vantage points, so your best bet might be the far end of the two lanes, near the spawn points or finding a view of the objective where you anticipate the opponent heading to.

Striker's role as sniper makes him a great asset to any team, but also a high-value target. Make sure you have contingency plans that allow you to keep him protected from counter attacks, and try to avoid setting up a sniping position where you can be ambushed or flanked. Covering him with Karl's Protection Orb is a good way to keep him safe from harm, at least for a little while.

Whether it's picking off stragglers at the end of a turn, or taking out a controlling operative to restore your own team, there are multiple ways to utilize Striker's particular set of skills. How would you dominate from a distance with Striker? Let us know in the comments below!

We'll continue to share more about the other operatives in this series over the coming months so we look forward to seeing you there. Entering the Loop #2: The Mechanics of Lemnis Gate

Welcome to the second 'Entering The Loop' article for Lemnis Gate, Operatives!

In this week's post we will be diving deeper into the core mechanics of Lemnis Gate and illustrate some of the ways you can turn time into a weapon.

As we discussed in our last article, Lemnis Gate is a turn-based combat strategy first-person shooter with a unique twist. Each player will take turns adding operatives into a 25 second time loop to create a set of actions. Once you've completed your turn, your opponent will have their chance to execute their own plans. As the matches unfold, each turn will loop and be layered on top of the ones that came before, letting you really flex your creative thinking. Bullets fired in round one will be fired again and again in subsequent rounds,  exactly the same, unless you're able to affect the timeline, of course.
Strategic thinking and tactical planning is key to winning. Execute plays that disrupt the timeline and run circles around your opponent and leave them in the dust. Try to anticipate their moves before they happen and perform actions that could be advantageous in subsequent rounds. A well-placed grenade in an open doorway in round one might funnel enemy operatives to a different area, for example. If you then use the subsequent rounds to set up firing corridors where you've led them, you should easily be able to take out several enemies at once. Fourth dimensional thinking is key to victory in Lemnis Gate, but so is choosing the correct operative for the situation at hand. We'll get more into that next.

There are several operatives available to choose from at the beginning of each round, but with only 5 rounds in a match you will need to plan ahead and pick strategically. Each comes equipped with a unique weapon and ability that make them highly useful in combat. These abilities range from purely offensive or defensive, to traversal abilities or other ways to give you an advantage. We've already discussed Kapitan's frag grenades and KARL's Protection Orb, and there's more to share in the coming months.

It's important to assess the situation at hand, the map, and your strategy when choosing which operative to send into battle. In one situation you may find sending KARL or Toxin out early to be beneficial as they can create defensive positions or traps to use later on in the in the match. However you may also find that picking an operative with the goal of making early claims on an objective works better instead! Every opponent and match will be different; it's important to be adaptable when your best laid plans potential get diverted!

Your strategy also needs to account for the fact that death is not the end when you're fighting in the fourth dimension! If one of your operatives falls to an enemy attack they're not out of the match thanks to Ghost Mode. You can finish out your operative's turn and record potential actions for future turns. If you then take out the enemy who killed your operative, said operative will come back and play out their turn as you recorded it in Ghost Mode. This can cause a cascade effect further down the timeline and potentially disrupt further plays.

Let's illustrate it further with an example. Player A sends out Toxin in their first round and blankets several areas in toxic material. On their own turn, Player B sends out Kapitan and manages to take out Toxin halfway through the round. Toxin's remaining actions have been erased from the timeline. They will continue to play out in Ghost Mode, but won't affect the battlefield. In response, Player A sends out their own Kapitan. They are able to kill Player B's operative before they take out Toxin, restoring Toxin to the timeline. Her actions will then play out as they did in round one, and the battle has turned in Player A's favour! This is just one of several ways that the fourth dimension comes into play in Lemnis Gate.

Between turns you can use a special Reconnaissance Drone to observe everything happening on the map, and use that information to further plan or adapt your strategies. The Drone is highly maneuverable, letting you check all corners and angles of a given map. All actions from previous rounds will play out in front of you, including Ghost Mode actions, so use this opportunity to consider your strategy or try and predict your opponent's future plays. A smart player is always ready to adapt their strategy to new developments.

We are incredibly excited to see how players use the 25 second time loop, Ghost Mode, and the Reconnaissance Drone to their advantage. Will you dominate from round one, or play the long game and turn the tide in your favour in the final round? Are there any strategies already coming to mind? Sound off in the comments and let us hear them!

There's more to come from Lemnis Gate in the next few weeks and months. We will be diving into the game's lore and backstory (It involves humanity's potential extinction), and you will also get to hear more about the different Game Modes and Match Types that you can play.
