Rebots Update - Winter Steam Games Festival Hotfix #2

It's Friday and we've got a brand new trailer + some small additions to mainly the asteroid selection & spaceport.

  • Added a new sun to the asteroid selection screen
  • Adjusted animations to the ship moving between asteroids on the asteroid selection and added an afterburner particle effect
  • Added a warning icon for blocked connections on the asteroid selection
  • Fixed a bug where the lines connecting asteroids would stretch
  • Fixes a couple colliders in the spaceport

Rebots Update - Winter Steam Games Festival Hotfix #1

We released our demo yesterday for the start of the Winter Steam Games Festival and we already have hotfix #1 fresh from the oven! Includes lots of improvements and fixes some bugs. Might contain ponies.

Improvements & Fixes


  • Added a bunch of objective highlighting throughout the tutorial to better guide players
  • Added sounds to the main menu
  • Added animations to the ship moving between asteroids on the asteroid selection
  • Updated the visuals for the lines connecting asteroid selection
  • Reduced the amount of asteroids in the obstacle asteroid belts
  • Changed which ship upgrade opens up which section of the asteroid field for better pacing
  • Rebalanced the rewards received on the first 3 missions for better progression
  • Fixed a bug where during the tutorial levels the welcome aliens button could be pressed at any time, not just when all objectives were completed
  • Fixed a bug where the cliffs on the 2nd tutorial level weren’t baked into the terrain so you could lose supervisor in it
  • Fixed a bug where the middle of the welcome aliens button wouldn’t be interactable
  • Fixed a bug where you couldn’t select a worker by pointing at its head
  • Fixed a bug where the woolyphant poop would not align properly with the ground
  • Fixed a bug where the particle effects of woolyphants sucking in merryberries would be cyan instead of white
  • Fixed a bug where the UI for upgrades needed would still show up even if the upgrade was already purchased on the asteroid selection
  • Fixed a bug where some UI elements would persist on the asteroid selection even after not hovering of objects

Rebots Demo for the Winter Steam Game Festival

Rebots is currently in production and this demo contains the very first hour of gameplay of the game. You get to try out what it's like climaforming and flying between asteroids with your crew of (mostly) intelligent robots, exploring ecosystems of wacky plants and animals.

Fully-fledged tutorial teaching you the core mechanics of Rebots Procedurally generated asteroid field with varied climate states 3 types of randomly generated job types to suit your alien clients
  • Climaforming - Change the climate of the asteroid
  • Gases - Create/remove gases
  • Delivery - Delivery specific resources for the aliens
5 types of robots to control

Rebots Roundup #7

We have been posting some devlogs about the development of Rebots on our Discord server, but we would like to extend that information to Steam.

In this post I'll just give you an update on what happened in the last 2 months, where we are now with Rebots and where we are going in the following weeks.

What did we work on in the last 2 months?
Iterating on and refining the core gameplay elements of Rebots. These main features are:

- Asteroid & Job Generation Systems (Rebots Roundup #2)
- Tutorial (Rebots Roundup #3 & #4)
- Mission Selection (We haven't dived deeper into it, but will in a future roundup)
- Shops & Economy (We haven't dived deeper into it, but will in a future roundup)

Where are we now?
In the past 2 weeks we have been focused on getting an A-Z flow of Rebots ready. This means that after starting a new game a player can

- Go through (or skip) a tutorial that teaches the core mechanics of Rebots
- Get a generated job on a generated asteroid
- Select a suitable planet for the specific job on a Mission Selection screen
- Land on the planet and complete the given objective (e.g. temperature below a certain level)
- Return to the spaceport and upgrade their operation by hiring new supervisors, buying upgrades for themselves and their ship to get to further away planets

Where are we going?
Currently the focus for us to bring all the above mentioned features above together into a cohesive package creating an adventure to realize the vision for Rebots. And to fix bugs. Yes. Always.

Rebots Update - Week 38-40

Improvements & Fixes
  • Updated the AIs for the Woolyphants making them smarter (they still like Merryberries though)
  • Updated the AIs for the different Aliens making them also smarter. They are bit smarter than woolyphants still.
  • Added scanner information for the Soapear resource to help players that get to the Grumpy Volcano level
  • Updated the energy icon on the top left to not have jagged edges
  • Updated link to a new survey on the exit menu for more general feedback purposes
  • Updated how the tool text (logistics, crew, scanner) looks, they show up after switching to appropriate tool and they disappear after a short period of time
  • Updated the Scanner’s tool text description
  • Changed available FOV values to be between 50 (min) and 80 (max) to avoid extreme fisheye effects
  • Also updated how the tools scale with the different FOVs for best possible look
  • Mint Woods (Tutorial): Fixed an extremely rare bug where the vaporizer could be enveloped by cliffs making the completion of the level impossible
  • Grumpy Volcano: Fixed a bug where the color of the volcano wouldn’t change with climaforming and the rest of the ground
  • Woolyphant Orchard: Fixed a bug where the wrong Trevor aliens would land after job completion.
Known Bugs
  • Woolyphant Orchard: The wrong conversation triggers with the landed aliens. They are just confused, that is all
  • Frozen Splitter: The BizzNizz rebot’s foot is inside the floor. Please don’t look at it, it is shy.
  • Pressing the “New Game” button disables some sound effects in the game. We are investigating this issue as it is related to some engine problem. If you would like to play from the top, go to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\FlatPonies\Rebots and delete the “Save” file in that folder. We are working on resolving this issue, because it is not at our end, so it takes a bit longer.
