The Traffic Management Update is coming on July 12 – Open Beta starts now!
Fellow officers,
just recently I watched the new Doctor Strange movie and realized: Wow, being able to redirect a car falling down from the sky after being smashed by a weird demon through a portal... that's pretty neat. While you can not perform magic in our game, we will provide you with other ways to take control of traffic!

Welcome to The Traffic Management Update - now available in Open Beta before the full update launches on July 12th!
Introducing: The Traffic Management Update
Safety first. We always pledged that. And that's why the Brighton Police Department invested heavily into new tools and guidelines to help all officers in their craft.

Check out the trunk of your patrol car - new goodies await you! Use your cones and barriers to block off individual lanes, entire streets, secure accident sites, or annoy other drivers! The latter one is a joke, please don't do that.
Use your commands!
Why do you have hands? Yes, to carry things from A to B. And yes, also to hold a gamepad. But more important: You can use them to perform gestures & issue commands!

With The Traffic Management Update, you receive a variety of options just for that!

You can now order...
 • NPCs to stop and wait
 • NPCs to walk to a different location and wait there
 • NPCs to not use the sidewalk at all
 • NPCs to turn around and use a different route
 • NPVs to wait
 • NPVs to turn around and use a different route
 • NPVs to reverse drive
We highly recommend using a combination of tools and manual commands to redirect traffic in a way that suits your present needs.

Note: The option to order NPVs to reverse is not present in the beta yet! We currently plan to release a hotfix on June 28th which will contain this option.
Mod your ELS!
Oh lord, never ever could we have anticipated the huge amount of mods you would create! It was clear to us that you really want to receive even more options to modify, personalize and optimize the game.

That's why we couldn't wait to introduce ELS Modding which enables you to adjust both sirens and blipping, customize all lights on all patrol cars, change the frequency, switch up the brightness and variate the colors.

Note: Of course, you can currently only use ELS mods with the beta branch and NOT with the stable branch.

Of course, we've both updated the official mod kit and written a guide to help you with your creations! Check it out here:
Smarter AI, Happier I
While we give you a bunch of new options to direct traffic yourself, it was crucial to optimize the AI at the same time. We're shipping a bunch of AI improvements that include a smart reaction to sirens, a better approach to intersections, an advanced lane switching behavior... and more. If you want to take a closer look at the changes, we've created an article with a few example videos:

https://steamcommunity.com/ogg/997010/announcements/detail/3337742851856313742
Bug fixes, performance improvements & other new features
As with the last updates, the team put a tremendous focus on fixing a bunch of longstanding bugs. You can take a closer look at them in the patch notes further down below.

We also resolved a bunch of crashes - and improved performance plus framerates across the board. In addition, you can now adjust the spawn density of NPCs and NPVs while fleeing has become an official arrest reason!
How do I enter the Open Beta?
We've made the process as easy as possible to include you, the community, early on during the development of the game. To join the Open Beta, you only need to perform the following steps:

 1. Right-click on Police Simulator: Patrol Officers in your Steam library.
 2. Select 'Properties' in the menu.
 3. Select 'Betas' in the sidebar on the left.
 4. Select 'Beta' in the drop-down menu and confirm your decision to switch to that branch.
 5. An update should now start - you are now officially part of the Open Beta!

To switch back to your stable save game, just repeat these steps again - but instead of selecting 'Beta', you just select 'None'. Easy.

Everyone can test the beta extensively and provide feedback on its features, balancing, and bugs. Feel free to send us your impressions on Discord, in the Steam Beta forums and on our Socials.
Save game to unlock everything in the beta
By visiting this link, you can download a save game for use on the beta branch (and only on the beta branch!). This save game will unlock all features immediately. You also need to know that you must copy the save game into the following folder:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Boston\Saved\SaveGames
You can find the folder more easily by typing %localappdata% into the Windows search.

Since the save is named Career_0beta.sav, you have to delete any other save game which might also be called Career_0beta.sav. We recommend doing a backup of the old save game as well should you want to keep it for the future.

Of course, this is completely optional and intended to help those who want to see everything unlocked in the beta from the very start. The old method of unlocking stuff does still work.
Here are the official patch notes for The Traffic Management Update
No more talking, now it's time for the Open Beta!

Traffic Management

 • Added Road Barriers: Players can now place road barriers on roads and around accident sites, to make the NPVs take a different route
 • Added Hand Gestures: Players are able to order NPVs to stop/continue driving and do a u-turn, which makes the player to be in control of the vehicle drivers around him

 • Added new Tutorial "Fleeing" that explains what should be done, if an NPC is fleeing

AI Improvements: Here's how much will change with The Traffic Management Update
Fellow officers,
with the upcoming Traffic Management Update (the beta starts next week!), we're introducing a lot of AI Improvements with a focus on the overall behavior of NPVs (Non-Player-Vehicles).

As the team has put a lot of work into the AI Improvements, we want to show off some of the changes we made over the last few months. In short: NPVs will now react a lot smarter to sirens, they approach intersections better and their lane switching behavior is more advanced.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
In this video, you can see that we've blocked off the lane on the very left with one of our brand-new road barriers. The NPVs will understand it as a way to turn back and accept the need to take another route. In turn, this allows you to better work on, for example, accident sites, and resolve traffic jams.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
In this video, you can see how NPVs begin to drive slower once you have your blue lights turned on. They begin to drive faster once you turn them off again. A nice side effect: On wider streets, you can easier drive through the gaps between cars and react to their movements.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
NPVs now react a lot faster to your blipping and find a parking spot immediately. No need to drive around 100 blocks with them (and that always felt like an eternity).

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Here, you can see how far intersections are being blocked by your siren. They stand still until you have driven past them, which makes it easier to drive to the location you are required at.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Speaking of intersections: NPVs which are very close to an intersection will not react directly to your siren and will try to make space so that you have a wider gap to drive through.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
They also clear the intersection if you have your siren enabled continuously, making sure that you have all the time and space in the world to reach your destination.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
If you disable the siren but keep the blue lights shining, the cars will begin to traverse the intersection.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
Let's get back to your road barriers: In this video, you can see how smooth NPVs react to blocked-off lanes. They spot the barrier and immediately move to a different lane.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
It's not just barriers, though! NPVs also react to cones and will switch to a different lane - if a different lane is available. Otherwise, they would turn around and find a different route.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
You're at full speed, crossing an intersection with sirens and blue lights enabled? Then, NPVs crossing an intersection as well will brake fast so that you won't crash into them.

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]
NPVs are smart enough not to brake and halt should you drive in a different direction than them, and will continue to drive their desired route.

The Beta for The Traffic Management Update is starting on May 31!
Fellow officers,
Police Simulator: Patrol Officers is growing further and further each month – and after experiencing all the heights, it's now time to go back to the ground, straight to the streets of Brighton.

Welcome to The Traffic Management Update, coming to you in beta on May 31 – with the full update launching on June 28!
Get control over Traffic and NPCs!
As a patrol officer of the Brighton Police Department, one of the most important parts of your everyday shift concerns the safety of each driver and pedestrian.

Our arsenal chefs have worked tirelessly to stack up your equipment to ensure your success in fulfilling this duty. Now, we can present the fruits of their labor: We're pleased to announce that you can now find cones and barriers inside your trunk, helping you to close off and secure accident sites, entire streets or individual lanes!

YOU SHALL NOT PASS!
Just the right signals
Physical barriers are fine - but why not issue verbal & gestural commands as well? With The Traffic Management Update, you receive a variety of options to use your magical hands!

You can now order...
 • NPCs to stop and wait
 • NPCs to walk to a different location and wait there
 • NPCs to not use the sidewalk at all
 • NPCs to turn around and use a different route
 • NPVs to wait
 • NPVs to turn around and use a different route
Show them who's in charge!
The Sound of Sirens
With The Holding Cells Update, we've introduced our very first modding options - and wow, your creations are absolutely amazing! My entire hard drive has been flooded with your mods as I've downloaded and installed every single one of them.

Those of you who hoped for even more ways to mod the game, I got some good news for you! ELS Modding is now finally available and we've made it highly customizable.

First: You can adjust the ELS for both sirens and blipping. Second: You can adjust ALL lights on all patrol cars, including their frequency, color, and brightness. Third: You can also change the sounds.

By the way, you can already start working on your ELS mods! We've released a comprehensive guide and updated the official mod kit to get you started:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2808924041
Huge AI Improvements
Together with the new traffic control features, we're also shipping a bunch of AI improvements. NPVs will now react a lot smarter to sirens, they approach intersections better, their lane switching behavior is more advanced – and NPCs behave more believable near patrol vehicles.

In addition, you can now customize the spawn/despawn radius of NPVs and NPCs as well as the general density of traffic and pedestrians.
Bug fixes, performance improvements & other new features
Once again, the team put a huge focus on fixing a bunch of longstanding bugs and bringing the game up to an even higher standard (the sky is the limit!).

We also resolved a bunch of crashes, improved performance plus framerates across the board... and fleeing has become an arrest reason!
What else?
That's it for now! Please look forward to the start of the beta next week (NEXT WEEK, YES, NEXT WEEK!) and share your thoughts with us in the comments down below :)
