Once a Librarian of the Dark Angels, Vassago was inducted into the Mystai by Zahariel and turned to Luther's renegade cause. Under a guise of loyalty to Corswain, Vassago travelled to Terra with a portion of the Dark Angels, and fought to reclaim the Astronomican.
