Launch Week Update from the NW Team

It’s been an incredible week of growth for the New World community. The demand we’ve seen has been staggering and we continue to be humbled by the number of players that want to explore Aeternum together. While it was certainly our aspiration to welcome massive numbers of players into the game during launch week, we were frankly surprised by just how many adventurers washed up on Aeternum’s shores. Over a million players entered New World on launch day. Each day after launch that number has increased, translating into long queue times for some of our more popular worlds.

Since our launch on Tuesday, we have more than doubled the number of servers and we are working to increase the capacity of all available servers to support a higher population cap. Our team has been working around the clock to add as many servers as we can and will continue to do so until we stabilize wait times.

While we do that work, there are options to get into the game quickly. If you are a player logging in for the first time, forty percent of our live servers have low or no wait times. We encourage you to seek those servers out and get playing. We are also working hard on a feature that will allow you to transfer your characters to a different server, so if you choose one now just to get up and playing, you can make a different choice later to play on a server with your friends. Our goal is to release this feature next week, once we’ve thoroughly tested and are sure it’s ready. Prior to its release, we will provide detailed information on how the transfer process works. We know how important it is to be able to play with friends, so we're putting this feature at the top of our priority list.

We have also implemented a system to prevent new players from creating new characters in full servers. Whenever a server is full, the server will be greyed out with the messaging, "Character Creation is temporarily disabled on this server due to overpopulation." This does not affect any characters already created on the server and you will be able to login as usual.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we work towards bringing you the most optimal player experience. Thanks for your support! We can’t wait to see you in Aeternum.

New World oil - where to find seeping stones

Want to know where to find seeping stones and get New World oil? Confusingly, there are multiple different kinds of oil in New World. If you're looking for New World Fish oil, it's a simple process: you can obtain fish oil by salvaging caught fish, which you can learn how to do in our New World fishing guide. You can make New World cooking oil by combining two fish oil with one nut, or searching in the supply cart in towns, provided your New World faction controls the town.

Regular old oil is acquired from seeping stones. You need a level 20 mining skill level before you can mine seeping stones, but once you do you can harvest crude oil. You can use New World oil to create coatings at arcane repositories in town to give your weapons buffs against certain enemy types. Oil is also used in potion-making, and when making certain items of furniture. If you're heading into one of the game's many expeditions, including the New World Amrine Excavation, then you may wish to stock up on potions and weapon coatings to bolster your damage.

You can only find seeping stones in two areas: Weaver's Fen and First Light. Finding them early on can be tricky, especially if you don't have level 45 mining skill which unlocks the ability to track the stones; they appear as droplets on your compass at the top of the screen. They yield precious resources and give decent mining experience, so they're worth seeking out. We found a great New World seeping stones oil farming location for you to get oil early in the game.

As New World players suffer queue times, Amazon promises free server transfers

New World is already popular. Extremely popular. It's currently the biggest game on Steam by concurrent player count, and the fifth-biggest game in Steam history by that same metric. But not all those New World players are actually playing, as servers have been struggling to keep up, and a big chunk of folks are simply waiting in queues.

Amazon is "continuing to stand up additional servers and will expand the capacity of our existing servers once we have properly tested these changes". In the meantime, the devs are encouraging players trying to log into more congested worlds to consider trying an alternative, and are offering free server transfers once the initial rush settles down.

The devs say a server transfer opportunity is coming "in the next two weeks". In some follow-ups on Twitter, the devs clarify that you'll be able to move to any available server once the transfer option is available, and you'll even be able to switch regions if you need to.

New World Amrine Excavation guide

Want to know how to beat the Amrine Excavation expedition in New World? This is the first of many raid dungeons in the game, and if you've been playing alone up until now, you will now need a party that can withstand attacks from stronger monsters. You should probably brush up on using the best weapons and define whether you're a DPS character or a supporting player.

Much like the raid dungeons from the best MMO games, this dungeon is split into several segments. While the vast majority of this first expedition is relatively straightforward with the right team composition, there are a couple of hurdles that may stump you if this is your first time going in.

To help you with the first major raid of the game, we figured we'd give you some tips for what kind of party works best for completing the Amrine Excavation expedition in New World. So here are some solutions to the trickier challenges and a list of the available rare loot you can find within.

New World devs are aiming to launch server transfers next week

New World, is turns out, is very popular. Amazon Games' fantasy MMORPG launched earlier this week and immediately saw budding adventures diving into Aeternum in their hundreds of thousands, with peaks of over 750k concurrent players - numbers that put it comfortably among Steam's most-played right now. Naturally, that's meant some pretty hefty queues for some players as servers have struggled to keep up, and the devs announced a server transfer opportunity was coming up to help ease congestion soon. Now, it seems that's due to arrive next week.

In a Twitter post updating players on this topic (below), the New World devs announce that they've been "working around the clock to add as many servers as we can and will continue to do so until we stabilise wait times". So far, they've "more than doubled" the number of New World servers and are working to dial up capacity on all available worlds get a higher population cap in place.

While these efforts are pushing on, the devs encourage new players diving in for the first time to go for one of the 40% of servers with "low or no wait times". While you might be keen to get stuck in with your friends, the New World devs explain that they're "working hard on a feature that will allow you to transfer your characters to a different server", with their goal being to "release this feature next week".
