qomp - first update

heyo,

the first update to qomp is now live!

The biggest addition to the game is the new speedrun mode that can be accessed through the options!
it skips the tutorial and gives perfect input on the map for you, so you can focus on getting the important parts of a run just right!

Special thanks to the speedrunning community of qomp, they have been super helpful both in finding bugs and designing the speedrunning mode!

Check out their discord and drop by if you want to check out some strats :)

other updates include:

- fixed some small bugs
- fixed the savegame problems
- fixed the game breaking from button mashing on map screen
- changes some extremely tiny details in the level design
- made the game independent of monitor refresh rates
- updated credits
- fixed gamebreaking bugs in challenge modes

there are also some things that we wanted to, but could not fix:

- some gamepads sometimes give double inputs
- the mouse cursor does not dissapear when reentering the screen
- on linux the game runs horrible on computers with certain video cards

These issues are related to the engine we are using and while they are probably fixable somehow, we simply do not have the time to do that! None of the issues we know about break the game or make it unplayable completely, so we hope this is acceptable :)

THE FUTURE

the speedrunning mode could get some updates if they are needed!
We can also probably fix most of the bugs or issues you find in the future!
Personally, I am considering adding a level designers commentary mode to the game, but idk if i have the time :)

So yeah, thank you all so much for playing and for your nice reviews (99% positive! What!?!), we are all
very happy to see you enjoying qomp!

cheers,
josh

qomp - speedrunning & updates!

Hello everyone,

my name is josh, I designed qomp and just want to thank you all so much on behalf of everyone on the team! We have enjoyed your comments, videos and speedruns a lot!

A speedrun community for qomp has formed and there are already some great times and insane skips!
If you want to check out how speedrunning qomp works, head over to the

I have been extremely exhausted, but am now joining clovelt, who has been fixing bugs already!

We are planning to have a big patch out by next week, bringing a Speedrun Mode!
This mode contains a timer as well as a skip for the tutorial and some debug options for learning and routing!
Thanks again to the qomp speedrunners for helping us figure out what they need :)

Additionally this update should do the following things:

-- make map more stable and less prone to crashing
-- preventing double input from some gamepads
-- small level design changes I should have dont for the release but forgot
-- code updates high refresh rate monitors
-- rework of some challenges (one of them is broken, the others need quality of life fixes)
-- fix some smaller, weird bugs
-- making the menu nicer

If you have trouble with the savegame of qomp, please contact us! One person lost their progress 3 times but we are unable to pinpoint why :(

In the long term, we are working on bringing qomp to mobile and consoles!
These processes can take quite a long time, but we hope we can do it as quickly as possible :)

Britt Brady is also currently looking into compiling the official soundtrack for qomp, but it is too early to annoucne anything definite there :)

If you have any questions, bug reports or comments, please just reach out to us through steams community hub :)

For now, thank you all so much again & have a nice day :))

cheers,
josh

qomp is a brilliant example of minimalist mechanics and a fantastic idea

In the game qomp you are the ball, the ball that has been thrown around games like Pong for a very long time and you've had enough - it's time to escape.

The upcoming game 'qomp' turns you into the Pong ball as you try to escape

That poor ball, stuck between Pong paddles that just bounce it around and they've done it since 1972. The ball has had enough of this and it's going to escape.
